I'm more interested in the comments made in the AnimeSuki thread itself. This kind of tech development in the face of the AMF fields Scaglietti designed is logical, and also an interesting step given the TSAB's mild phobia against mass weapons.
Amusingly, it seems to be a step towards more "DnD" style effects where magic is used to manipulate energy that's already there rather than shooting something with raw magic until it gives.

Or, if I read right, Nanoha's weapon is also a melee weapon so Vita's might be more melee specialised while offering ranged options as well.

Oh lord. The spoiler's weapon is a fracking gunblade in the style of final fantasy 8 hopped up on evil, I can't say i'm liking it. I thought it was stupid when I saw it the first time and still think its stupid idea :S
