All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXXII
RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXXII
Take away automod, definitely. In fact, I was thinking of suggesting that for now. A copyright violation, especially by someone we've trusted for several years, is a big thing, and we're going to want to keep an eye on them. Especially since it was a whole freaking page and not just a paragraph inserted somewhere.

I’m a bit late to respond, but that sounds like a reasonable step to protect the Wiki. I am interested in seeing what he has to say, but I can’t imagine much that would excuse this, short of definitive proof that he was the author, and even then he should have been more forthcoming regarding that he was importing something he wrote.

Wikis are effectively down. Including Phorge, so I can't file a trouble ticket about repeated 503s.

Blakegripling ph has replied and says that the entire page on TVT is his work, and links to its revision history. Geth, if you could please do the honors to confirm, as TVT still locks up its page histories behind a membership wall? Thanks.

Does anybody know enough about any of the movies listed on this page to write Work pages for any of them? The titles range from mockbusters to important foreign films to stuff that even I have heard of (but haven't seen).

All The Tropes' style is to avoid listing tropes for unrelated works on a single page, even if the trope is the same in all cases... which is what has been done with these examples of "Crowning Moment of Awesome".

Yes, there are other pages like that one for awesome moments in other media. The "film" page is simply the first one that I've winnowed down to what I don't know enough about to work on what's left.

EDIT: Oh, and three movies have "Awesome" subpages but don't have work pages for them to be under: Crossing Over, Sha Po Lang, and The Substitute.

Sometime in the last 15 or 20 minutes, Miraheze started throwing 502 bad gateway errors again. ATT, KanriKyara, Meta, all inaccessible.

EDIT: Never mind. Almost the moment I posted that, it came back.

As of this posting, our disambiguation page "SP" has this entry near the bottom:

Quote:* "Security Police", the Japanese equivalent of the US Secret Service in their role as bodyguards. (This would be listed under Tropes if we had a generic trope about bodyguards.)

Do we have a generic trope about bodyguards? If not, should we?

We've got one for all-female bodyguard squads -- it has a photo of Moammar Qaddafi's "bodyguard babes" on it as I recall. If we have a more generalized version, then it's probably linked as a supertrope on that page.

Ah, so it is.

And we quite cunningly call the supertrope about bodyguards "Bodyguard".

Even more embarrassingly, I created the Trope Workshop candidate in the first place.

EDIT: Our page "SP" has been updated.

I think we need to go in and review all of VincentFox12233's recent edits. He's been adding Category:Horror Tropes to a whole lot of tropes, some of which I'm thinking it's really not appropriate for.

He's still having his posts moderated, so somebody's approving them. When that somebody was me, I didn't see any tropes that I thought were inappropriate for the category.

Hmmmmm... Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim, Ui Hirasawa in K-On!... Do we have a trope for the younger sibling being the more responsible than the older sibling?

Re: VincentFox12233 -- I didn't actually see anything wrong, per se, just that he was doing a lot of it, and some of them seemed borderline to me. that's often the sign of a single-item obsessive in the process of shoehorning his topic of choice into everything he can. If his edits are all appropriate, then cool.

As for the responsible younger sibling, there's also Yume Sakura in Bakuon!!... that's three examples if there isn't already a trope. Which there kind of is? Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling seems to cover both sides of the relationship.

Yeah, I'm wondering about some of the entries in today's batch. How is "Not Quite Dead" a horror trope, for example?

I think it's time to take Vinny to one side and let him know the difference between a trope and a horror trope.

User:Kyadavwiki144 has been tempbanned for three months for not only refusing to learn from multiple mistakes but also for trying to hide that fact.

A bit long for a first ban, but that user only tries submitting a badly-formed page once a month. Thus, a three-month ban is the shortest that would actually inconvenience that user.

New navbox: AFI's 100 Years 100 Stars (which lists only 50 stars, and the misnomer has been lampshaded).

There are 11 redlinks in the navbox. Somebody who knows more about film than I do should write pages for these actors, because they're all big names.

I noticed that all of the "AFI's 100..." navboxes listed people or films that had Wikipedia pages, so I added "Category:Pages with working Wikipedia tabs" to the navboxes that we have for the AFI lists. This has added approximately 150 pages to that category.

So... Pregler Lupa has earned themselves what looks like four tempbans in four months, and has a demonstrated problem with trying to insert errors of fact into the wiki. I think it's time we consider permanently banning them.
