Yes it does, but as it so happens, the invite was legit, and once I got into Wave, I received enough information to guess that izeas.gt was in fact Shay Guy.
To whom I say, thanks, it's cool.

Interesting... Did Google acquire Appjet recently? Because this looks awfully similar to the stuff that
makes Etherpad tick.

I KNEW IT!!!

Google just acquired Appjet (and along with it, Etherpad) to fuel their new Wave app.  And now, Etherpad is shutting down.
I found out about this lovely bit of news when I got this email:

Quote:Dear EtherPad User,
AppJet Inc., the company behind EtherPad, has been acquired by Google [1]. The EtherPad development team will continue its work on real-time collaboration by joining the Google Wave team.

As an EtherPad user, we thought you might be interested in trying out the preview of Google Wave. Like EtherPad, Google Wave lets you collaborate on rich text in really real-time. It also does a bunch of useful things that EtherPad does not do, such as organizing your waves in an inbox. Although Google Wave is only in a preview phase, we think you might still find it useful.

Hope to see you on Google Wave soon,

- The (former) EtherPad Team
They say that their releasing the code as an open source deal, but still... can't say I'm very happy about this.

Well, that's the other side to Cloud Computing that doesn't get mentioned. When all your data is stored on other people's servers, what do you do
when that company is bought out by another, and the reason you set it up that way is fundamentally altered by the new guys?

Keep your data on your computer. It's safer.

I wrote an article on new technology for a local business magazine, and an interesting thing I learned about Cloud Computing was that information
you store offsite lacks many of the legal protections possessed by electronic information that is physically present at your place of business. While Cloud
Computing has a lot of benefits, the information is a lot more vulnerable as well.

the shakedown as I understand it:

google acquires appjet (and with it etherpad)

google decides to shut down etherpad (because obviously wave is better). Old pads will remain online/editable, new pad creation is verboten

community raises a rather large fuss (they disagree that wave is better).

google responds by re-enabling all functionality of etherpad, begins process of open-sourcing the code.

Far from the mess it could have been.

What I don't like is that Etherpad is still shutting down and there is no gaurantee that a suitable replacement will come.
Wave seems nice from what little I've heard of it, but what made Etherpad even nicer still was...
1) It does not require a log-in for the people you want to join in on the editing of a pad.  You only needed a log-in to start a pad.
2) It is simple and easy to use - 100% intuitive.  People who never used web apps before got the gist of it within seconds.
Wave has many more features and tools than Etherpad and requires log-ins for everyone.  When you have writing partners that are reluctant at best to sign up for a new service and like to keep things simple, Etherpad was a Godsend.

I got an invite to Google Wave from someone I'd never heard of called "izeas.gt". I'd've written it off as spam except the links looked
legit, and googling the guy's handle turns up an anime fan who appears to be working with Google code in some capacity.

So... is one of you proud contributors to this community "izeas.gt"? Or do I have a previously unsuspected fan out there who's just gifted me
with access to a Google beta?

ETA: I overlooked something during my first pass of investigation... "izeas.gt" seems to have something to do with TVTropes.

I think I'm going to take the chance. With my security measures, the worst I can get is Google saying, "What? No!" when I try the link.
