...but I have an interview tomorrow morning (Friday 1/29) with a company in Lakewood, NJ that provides a number of services, including marketing and IT, to healthcare firms.  Wish me luck.

Best of luck with your Friday interview, Bob.
I've still got my fingers crossed, though, that you'll be able to tell your former employers that having a sense of humor (and their lack of one) led to you getting a vice presidency.

Me too, but I still haven't heard back from that recruiter. I really need to bang loudly on their door come Monday (I probably won't have the time tomorrow.)

And thanks, both of you.

Thanks everyone. I'm back now, having just literally walked through the door a minute ago; I'm not even out of my suit yet (but that's because the house is warming up from 62 degrees F right now, and it's still too chilly to change clothes, much as I would like to be in jeans).

Interview went well, I think -- and I don't have that horrible sinking "I've made a terrible mistake" feeling that I did after the one at the end of November.

Update: I just received word that the manager at (major investment bank) passed on my resume. So the VP position is not going to happen.

Damn...

I thought that would have been kinda cool: Banker by day, The Loon by night.

Well, I wouldn't've been a banker, strictly speaking. But yeah.

In the mean time, I'm waiting for the results of my second bang on the door at (major consulting firm). If I hear nothing by Friday morning, I'll be phoning the HR person who originally called me. And Friday morning will be one week since my interview at (healthcare marketing firm). I'm not sure how long I should wait before I start getting antsy about that one.

I realized this morning that I never checked our mail yesterday. In the box was a letter from the firm in Lakewood -- thank you but no.

Oh well, at least I'm consistent.

You got mail yesterday?

(Ah, well. At least you're getting to the interview stage more often than a lot of folks...)

Yeah, we had a window of opportunity between the first dig-out and most of the afternoon snowfall that apparently the mailman took advantage of.

And you know, that's something I didn't know. I have a metric, thanks to a friend, for how many applications I should be making per day, but I didn't think to find out how well I was doing on the followup. I guess I should feel a bit better about my performance.

Hey, Bob, do you mind if I jump on the looking for a job bandwagon?
Since I'm not having much luck in the private sector, I decided to look more closely on the government side. Department of the Navy has several job openings for my line of work (Environmental Protection Specialist) so I'm placing together an application packet. I found out that being a veteran has several employment backdoors that I can utilize.
The city of Los Angeles has a paid internship job progam on-going for veterans. It's like a temp-job, but you have the oppurtunity to compete for City/county jobs when it does open. The good news is no experience required. I sen an application last week. They said it'll take 4-6 weeks to get back to me.
I started volunteer work for the Veterans Administration Hospital this winter. I'm helping one of the counselors in the Veterans Rehabilitation Program/employment. He's been most helpful. I'm going to see if I can branch out to the environmental side of the hospital. At least I can place that as experience on the resume.
Also the Air Quality Managment District just opened the door for hiring. I'll have to place a packet also.

Just a random musing...

If openings I qualify for in the various listings I use are any indication, the job market is picking up. My target is three applications per work day, but the last few weeks I've been easily making three or more times that. Before the new year, I sometimes had dry weeks where I'd be lucky to make quota one day out of five, but since January 1 it's been a relative flood.

Now if I only could get more interviews... (Yes, I know, Rob, I'm doing better than most. But my unemployment runs out in about 8 weeks, and after that we start slowly eating into our savings. I would rather be employed before we reach that stage.)

I think we all know which metric really matters: "number of job offers accepted", which should only be 1. Keep on plugging away at it!
