I'm putting together an application for a civilian position in the Department of the Navy. There are several openings in the U.S and overseas. Including Japan and Bahrain. I have a vague idea of what's it like in Japan, but no idea in Bahrain. Anyone know?

(The Kingdom Of) Bahrain is an itty bitty island off the coast of Saudi Arabia, just east-northeast of Qatar. It's in an economic Oil Boom, and fast growing.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahrain]its wikipedia article, it seems to be a relatively liberal Muslim nation. (The constitution allows for freedom of religion, although that freedom is limited in public.) They've got oceans of oil, a F1 track and a Grand Prix circuit.

Stayed on the base when I was a 'happy' participant of D.Shield/Storm, and the only thing I wish to warn you about is:

The Taxi Drivers

They be nuckin' futs! They made a seasoned New York downtowner wet himself.

I don't think much has changed since then.

From what little I've heard through the grape vine, US Servicemen are now able to bring their dependents to Bahrain. This means that the conditions at the bases are picking up drasticly, so we have a little bit less of the Drunken Sailor thing going on since there's more to do.
