...I find it very interesting that Mr. Butcher has broken the naming theme, and on a book with that title.

We both dig the Dresden. I think it was the forums that turned us on to the TV show, from which we progressed to the books. And we've been fans of the books since.

We're at about the midpoint of the series as planned, aren't we?  Even if the Apocalyptic Trilogy has been bumped up to a quadrilogy, as Butcher mentioned recently.
Aside from the obvious big change here... I'm wondering if maybe the oft-repeated "ever-changing laws of magic" thing will actually come into play at last.

I liked the original-story comics.  The adaptation of Storm Front... I'd give it a meh-minus.

yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our
us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs

make an interception."

Two things that get me about the sample chapter.

1) Mac is speaking in complete sentences. Does this make anyone else nervous?

2) Butcher is, as a friend of mine has put it, a master of The Chekhov's Gun That Isn't There (for example: Harry's blasting rod.)

What isn't there in the Laws of Magic that the White Council enforces?

Yeah.

Makes ya wonder, hm?

ECS, it's established in the first book that Harry's 'out'. He's in the yellow pages, after all.

Basically, the mundanes try to ignore the supernatural and the supernaturals try not to freak the mundanes too hard, both by tradition rather than by law.
A lot of the rising tension over the course of the series comes from the fact that this is becoming increasingly difficult, from both ends, worldwide.

Yup. And the first few books make a point of mentioning that the world is coming closer and closer to the point where the general public is going to have to acknowledge it.

Methinks that we are going to get to see it happen. Soon. Probably not in this book, but soon.

I will most certainly be there for the ride. This is one of like three universes I'm willing to pay to play in.

Yeah.

This is one of the three or so 'verses that I pay for in /hardcover/.

(The others including David Weber's Honorverse, Pat Hodgell's Kencyrath, and Miller & Lee's 'Liaden' books.)
