I may have a workaround, involving some white oak, some stain, some shelving brackets, some screws and drywall anchors, and a weekend spent in the stairwell.

If it was Disney's Nautilus, I'd say the wrought iron ones would be appropriate. For the model in question, though, I'd go with the bright steel.
