Hey Gang-

So I have finished listening through the dresden files on audiobook for the second time (and I'm crying inside since book 13 was delayed).

Since I have a few credits on audible to spend, I'm looking for recommendations for other addictive books to check out.

Any good books/series out there (that might be on audible) that I should pick up? hopefully in the same vein (magic/detective)?

Helen recently exposed us to the works of http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... ws&x=0&y=0]Ilona Andrews; her "Kate Daniels" books have a flavor somewhat like the Dresden Files. A quick check shows that at least some of them are available in Audible format. (And though it doesn't have a "Dresden" feel, I'd suggest her "On The Edge" series as well.)

The first Dune book is an excellent audio value - it is a full cast recording and nicely read and acted.
The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammet - the reader dearly loves the Bogart version and is able to immitate the iconic performanes of Spade, Guttman and Mr. Cairo; this is a noir classic.
Badass by Ben Thompson - puerile, with a few historical errors, but strangely compelling; more fun than I am willing to admit.
World War Z - It is abridged, but the cast on this recording makes it a joy to listen to.
America (The Audiobook) Jon Stewart.
Have You Heard The One About - Short, but an incredible collection of anecdotes by various British tale tellers, including Brian Oedipal-Gerund Blessed.

It's more epic fantasy than urban fantasy, but you might try Jim Butcher's other series, The Codex Alera. It's quite good, in my opinion, but it is a bit of a different flavor than the Dresden Files.

If you're a Doctor Who fan, Big Finish has made a lengthy series of audioplays, not audio books but actual productions, complete with the original cast. This includes multiple seasons' worth of adventures for Paul McGann's Doctor, from the one-shot TV movie.

You can buy them as MP3 downloads or order them on CD.

A few recommendations from their earlier seris:

The Fires of Vulcan - the 7th Doctor and Mel visit Pompeii.
Whispers of Terror - 6Doc and Peri investigate the Museum of Aural Antiquities
The Sandman - The reptilian Galyari are visited by their ancient, mythic bogeyman... The Doctor.
Spare Parts - 5Doc and Nyssa make a chilling visit to the planet Mondas, and witness the birth of the Cybermen
The One Doctor - The Doctor visits a threatened colony world to discover that they have already been saved ... by The Doctor.

They also produce audioplays for series such as Stargate, Judge Dredd, The Tomorrow People, Sapphire and Steel, and Dark Shadows.

My vote would be for The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

On the off chance that you haven't raided it yet, here's a link to the Eyrie Productions audiobook directory.

So what did you spend your hard earned-on?
(The Adventures of Sod Off in the Land of the Nosey Fat Bastards being a acceptable response.)

I picked up "the name of the wind".

While I was intrigued by concepts behind some of Ilona Andrews works, I couldn't *stand* the reader.

And being constantly annoyed by the story teller is not the way to enjoy the story.

baddass, world war z, america (the normal book), and dune I have read in dead-tree format.

I have been planning to check out Dr. Who for a while, and I'll wait until I actually watch some before I get into the audiobooks.

and yes, the eyrie productions audio is known to me. I was looking for stories I *haven't* read/listened to before Smile

Sweno, I too have read World War Z in print format. I still recommend the audiobook. It's that good.
