World of Tanks
World of Tanks

Anyone else playing this? I am currently loving the hell out of it.
Had an epic encounter today where an out of ammo su-5 ( dinky low level russian mortar spg) managed to cause a t95s death ( end-game super heavy tank destroyer) when he rammed the side of it persistently preventing it from turning around.
Then the remainder of our whole team managed to use that to shoot the helpless t95 in the ass until he rage quit.
Some pics to give you a sense of scale:

which is why military designers PUT turrets on tanks.
Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky?
That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry-

NO QUARTER!!!

Yeah, but the SU-5 would be well under the arc of the main gun of the T-95. the ONLY way that the tank crew could have stopped the SU-5 from doing this in real life would be to have the commander get up on the pintel machine gun (assuming the tank had one) and rain fire into the open top of the SU-5.
I'm assuming that the GAME wouldn't allow him to do this, having no option for it. ^_^
(googling world of tanks to check it out)
Edit: Oh wait... looking at the photo more closely - the big tank doesn't actually seem to HAVE a turret!. Original comment still stands though, assuming a turning turret.
Though ... oh. Sudden thought:  A tank gun muzzle blast going off over your head LITERALLY less than 5-10 feet away... the backblast alone would be enough to stun or seriously hurt the crew in an open-topped vehicle like that.

True, though in this case I was more thinking about the '95 being able to take out the ones doing the actual shooting...

Still digging this game pretty hard. Working my way to the Tiger II
Currently playing what was a german prototype knock-off of the t34 ( which is *hilarious*).

I would recommend anyone who likes tanks and tank-games to give it at least a try. Its "freemium" with a moderate download to start, and I am definitely finding it a lot of fun.

I've been playing this. Mostly rocking the SEA servers in tier 1, 2 & 3 light tanks, pretty much all of them researched to elite. None of them French.

I can have surprisingly good matches in my T1, Ltractor, Pz.Kpfw. II & Cruiser Mk. III., provided I'm not one-shoted by arty, someone with 'magic rounds' or in a low tier tank in a higher tier match.

Say, I'm curious about something...

Does anyone think that they can recreate that stunt they pulled in Girls und Panzer where the challenging school managed to take out that freaking Maus? I'm not clear on the particulars (models of tanks) but they managed to wedge one tank under the Maus's tracks, immobilizing it, and then leapfrogged another tank up to immobilize the turret (while pointed about 270 degrees), then used a final tank to nail the engine compartment through the exposed radiator grating from a higher elevation.

I think someone's tried but might be difficult due to the differing tiers of tanks involved. This is the wedge http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Hetzer , this is the closest to the leapfroger http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Type_2597_Chi-Ha, and the base model of the shooter http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Pz.Kpfw._IV , and finally the Maus http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Maus

Yet if it has been done, expect it to be highly rated & viewed on youtube.

Yeah, I would expect something like that would have to be completely staged on both sides. And, if penalties for losses are assigned in this game, then I would imagine there'd be a pretty steep one for losing a Maus.

Well I've found someone's warm-up attempts. Result:

Maus wins!!

.... While I can believe that hitting a Maus with a Hetzer like that would work out as well as it did in the clip, I find the results of the attempt to immobilize the turret to be ridiculous... I mean, did it really just explode the moment the Maus tried to move?

And here we learn that World of Tanks is indeed just a game and not a simulator.

They explain in the notes, that the game counts driving over tanks as taking damage for both the driver & drivee and as the Maus has a lot of HP the seen result is inevitable.

OUCH. Okay, I'm in full support of fair play and KISS, but that's taking it to an outlandish degree. :p
