The 10,000-year Clock
The 10,000-year Clock

I'm pretty sure most of you already know about this, but I just stumbled across a great article about the thinking, design and engineering behind it, as well as an update on its progress.  (Plus, it's a great intro to the idea behind the clock for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about.)  Here.

congrats, your job is to build something that will last twice as long as recorded history!

I've seen an exhibit about this in the bay area, and I have to say that there is some really cool engineering that's going into it.

More likely it'll last until some moron climbs into it to take a picture and gets hurt, then be dynamited or filled with cement or something. Or get bought by a corporation and stripped for materials after the rest of the easily accessible ore deposits have been stripmined.
