I won the lottery today...
I won the lottery today...

For a certain definition, that is. I was on my bicycle this morning and was hit by a truck. However, there is currently no evidence of broken bones or such, just a knee sprain and contusions down my right leg.

Going 27 years without a bone fracture! Yay, me!

Done that before.

Did more damage to the car that hit me. Justice!

Yeesh. You really did get lucky there.

I'd suggest paying close attention to how that leg holds up. [Personal story] When I was in elementary/middle school, I broke my foot stepping off a curb somehow (lamest injury story ever, though I was wearing a white shirt and holding a cup of punch at the time), and the the person at the emergency room thought it was a contusion initially. I ended up walking on it for nearly a day before they realized their mistake. It wasn't that bad, just a hairline fracture, I think, but you should still be careful with that leg, just in case.

Threaten to bludgeon people with them until someone carries you.

Heh. Adjust them so that when placed under the arm, you're standing flat on the ground. Despite the lure of just riding the crutches, they're just a pair of canes, and should be used as such. They're there to catch you when your foot/leg/etc. can't handle it on its own, not walk for you.

And remember that you're not a tripod, and you shouldn't try a long stride.

And when you get a chance, yank the rabbit from betwixt your butt cheeks.  He has done his job admirably and should be afforded a breath of fresh air.
Glad to hear you are relatively unscathed.

Okay... its been a little more than three days since the accident. I'm getting used to the crutches, and standing on one leg. Still hurts like hell when I wake up to about fifteen minutes after I take my meds. But look on the bright side! This is teaching me a whole new respect for being able to carry stuff around!

Urg. I think this is depression phase...

That's when you start 'stepping' on people's feet with the crutches... It'll cheer you up.

that's right, on some days it feels like there is only a limited amount of happiness in the world. And you must get yours by taking it from other people Smile

Okay, you've got the "standing on one leg" part down. Now you have to work on the "playing the flute" part of the Ian Anderson impression...

Ouch. My sympathies. I'm lucky too, though. Never have broken a bone. Hope I never do. But I have had a knee TWIST out of joint to the point the kneecap popped out of position. 6 weeks in a leg brace for that one. Good thing it was when I was still in junior high school and young enough to heal properly. And 25+ years later that joint STILL "crinkles" when I straighten it to horizontal in a sitting position. Not painful. But just a reminder.
