Kick ALL the Starters!

And the Robotech KS has just revealed two new pledge levels.

$5000 each.

The RDF version gets you a boxed set plus every mecha the SDF-1 carried. Over 1500 figures (counting each Valkyrie as 3, since there's one for each form).

The matching Zentraedi level is over 1700 minis. It starts with "600 battlepods" and just goes nuts from there.

...okay I've joined the Robotech KS, mainly for the Monster. For I think that unit might be the game winner for the RDF, presuming you can protect one for long enough. And I'll probably paint the VF-1's up as a different wing, "Dark Bird" looks like an interesting starting point.

Well, there's Heavy Gear Assault.
Now, while I'm a huge Heavy Gear fan, this being a F2P, Multi-player-ONLY, plot-less, arena-battles game pretty much guaranteed that I'm not going to back it. Also, while they call it F2P, it does have a monthly subscription service . . ..
That, and they're asking for $800k, and have their first stretch-goal set to $1.5m. I don't think they understand how Kickstarter works. Sure, I get "Go Big or Go Home!" but, really this seems like "We want a lot of money now so we can charge you even more later!"
Simply posted in case there are people who are interested.

As much as I love Heavy Gear - having been part of the Greated Goddamned Heavy Gear campaign in history until out GM moved to Seattle - that really doesn't seem like something to support. Yet another Pay-to-win mutilation of a great franchise. Sigh.

As much as the basic concept might work for a game pretty damn well - not for an MMO like that and certainly not at those prices.

Anyone interested in seeing Neil Gaiman act in a movie written by Michael Reaves? (Noir, set in 1940s Hollywood, has vampires.)

Okay, well, some positive news on the Heavy Gear Assault front.
With the project floundering and the majority of the community saying "meh!" Stompy Bot has come out with an overhaul of their stretch goals (now set at $50k increments instead of $500k, after a massive $700k jump) and promised to include a single-player episodic mission for release.
I sent questions, and received some answers (only one didn't quite make sense--I understand the answer, but I don't think they understood the question). I'm still mulling it over, but I'm now, somewhat, more positive about it.
ETA:  I got permission to post the answers at the DP9 forum.  Here is the post.  If you really want to see me shoot my mouth off, read the rest of that thread.

Here's a neat-looking one on the Modular Robotics front. The modules are still kind of spendy, but relative to what you get in each module, it's really pretty reasonable.

Amazingly, the Mekton Zero kickstarter hasn't appeared here.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/188 ... ekton-zero

Only 18 hours to go, people! If we can pick up another $1500, the book will be a full-color hardcover!

ETA: Well, the kickstarter is over, and not only made $45,000 for a hardcover print run (And they're going to be SIGNED for KS supporters) but $50,000 as well, literally in the last few seconds! Despite not having a predefined stretch goal above $45k, the word from Mike Pondsmith is that there will be a monster miniature, the Uru-Killer bear-with-tentacles thing, as well. If I understand correctly, for all supporters!

The most exciting part is definitely putting a Mekton branded product on the shelves after a decade with none, though, one with modern production values fit to lure in the generation that's cut its teeth on D&D3e/4e and Pathfinder.

Well, they just cancelled the Heavy Gear Assault kickstarter.  As Monkeyfist said, "that's not a cancellation, that's just a formality."  Having made just over 5.5% in 34 days . . . Mektek/Stompybot really need to re-evaluate their game and listen to the fans.

Megatokyo is working on getting a visual novel game going please help even more since they have already passed their initial mark.

I'm a little scared by how many people have sprung for the really huge pledge levels on the megatokyo kickstarter.
But I fully expect Fred to have to do the 'blurry' edition, given how much attention the project has already gotten.

Hrm, I doubt that they'd get to a half mil, the four figure level totals up to $38000 and most of the limited $200 to $500< have gone. Yet Kicktraq's currently forecasting that it's possible http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/fredri ... ovel-game/

I just contributed to the Megatokyo VN project. I'm guesing that Piro-rin simply doesn't have the bandwidth for hundreds of $2000+ backers. It's looking like the 'blured' edition won't be coming unless the amount of backers grows by an order of magnitude or so..

#93
yah, unless there is a surge at the end, it looks like we will have to do without the 'blurry' version >.<
But it should still be fun.

Huh, appearently there's a kickstarter to produce a Little Witch Academia 2 anime.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/131 ... academia-2

It made it's $150,ooo goal in 6hrs, and has now doubled it. The production crew is astonished that they need to come up with stretch goals already. 8)

Now this is cool:

Send your own Pocket Spacecraft on a Mission to the Moon! And it doesn't look like pie-in-the-sky, either -- these guys appear to have the chops to do it. Here's an article on the project.

So, the people behind Ubuntu are trying to crowdfund a cell phone. If it happens, it looks like it would be very neat. It is a rather daunting goal, though.

It looks like the crowd funded cellphone is running out of steam...
It's make $7M the first week, and about $1M the next. While there is the technical difficulty of needing a PayPal account for any contributions over $500, I think the main indicator is the lack of any Enterprise level Contributions-- there's just not enough people who want this.Maybe I'm wrong...

I'm not seeing anything it can do that my BlackBerry Bold and PlayBook can't... other than run an open-source OS, which really doesn't matter.
