So, Google has removed the option to turn off safe search, if you are using the .com website.  Article here.

I don't normally use Google for searching, so I went and had a look. I supposed you could say that the original claim is technically correct, in that "safe search" was off by default and I had an option to turn it on. I suppose you could call that "removing the option to turn off safe search" if you stretch it enough.

Actually, it was usually on by default. Odds are it was turned off at some point, and that was remembered by your comp.
