All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part VIII

LulzKiller Wrote:Found an interesting article that I think is good and should be kept but don't know how:

http://allthetropes.org/wiki/GTA_Radio

Do we let it have it's own individual page?

Do we move it into GTA as a franchise?

What do we categorise it as?
Bit of an odd case, this one.

The GTA Radio is something of a "shared" universe, even if the actual canon rebooted after San Andreas and GTA IV and V are in a different canon. Since it's shared recurring elements, characters, and even canon ties to things outside the canon it's home to in each game after San Andreas (references to the old canon are still present in GTA Radio), I would count it as it's own work, but still under the GTA franchise aegis.

LulzKiller Wrote:Rob, the two were mutually exclusive. Also if we are keeping it as a separate page, categorising it does become twitter, not saying it as a preference for merging, just something to consider.
Ah.

Yes, keep it as its own page. Yes, list it as part of the Greater Toronto Area Grand Theft Auto franchise. No, don't merge it into the main page.

So what's going to happen now is that All The Tropes is going to move to its own database server.  Again.  At the very least it should reduce restart times if mysql goes down on both sides.

If you don't mind me asking, are we still keeping the current URL ("http://allthetropes.org")?

That's a non-issue. Even if we were to leave Miraheze, the domain name would come with us, and all that would be necessary would be to update its DNS entries to the IP address of the new host. That would get propagated across the web, and within a day or so everyone would be coming to the new location instead of the old.

But if I understand what's happening, all we're doing is moving within Miraheze, which shouldn't do anything to our IP address.

*Now* what?
I was just trying to add a message to the end of the http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Topic:Tjoarsfo7cfxwo0i]Category:Theater vs. Category:Theatre thread in the forums, but every time I try I get something like this:
Quote:[68a5a107bb66630847d67c7c]
Exception Caught: Request to parsoid for "html" to "wikitext"
conversion of content connected to title "Topic:Tjoarsfo7cfxwo0i"
failed: (curl error: 28) Timeout was reached
And despite the "timeout" message, it happens instantly.

Aargh - the freebie wiki is giving "Backend fetch failed" errors.

And I was in the middle of a big project that I'm sure would go much faster if I had any idea how to write a bot. (I believe I've mentioned that I'm a good documenter, but as a programmer ... I'm a good documenter. What I'm doing right now, in edlin syntax, is "shttp://www.daz3dhttp://www.daz3dg" on over 500 pages - then I'll be checking other often-cited sites and finding out whether I can switch their links from http to https.)

EDIT: And within five seconds of me posting this, the errors went away.

RE-EDIT: I'm down to http://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/w ... LinkSearch]499 occurrences of the string to be replaced (from 1137, but now I'm down to the ones-and-twos on a page). Time to call it a night.

RE-RE-EDIT: Once this string is done, I can do s%[link=http://www.renderosity.com/%5Chttp://www.renderosity.com/%5Cg]http://www.renderosity.com/http://www ... ity.com/g] ... and http://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/w ... LinkSearch]I've got 1,821 occurrences of that string. I really need to figure out how to write a bot.

i might be entirely getting this wrong but couldn't you just do a general (httpSmile to http: per regex?

The freebie wiki doesn't appear to have that on its list of special pages.

If that's a plugin that I need to request, what is it called?

I believe that would be MassEditRegex.

Also, we have a new user who took our uncensored stance a bit too literally and apparently revived a page TV Tropes deleted (Wall Bang Her), which is fine, but I'd feel better if it had a datestamp to the revision date so we know if it's kosher (July 2012 or earlier).

More concerningly, they started uploading hentai images of the trope in question to illustrate the page, and as far as I know, our policy is to keep pages images work safe, and if it's not in the rules in a clearly written down places, we need to fix that. (the images were deleted by me)

I left them a talk page message to address this for the time being, but other admins looking into this would be appreciated.

It's already in our posted rules, which we really need to do a better job of publicizing.

"Wall Bang Her" isn't a deleted TVT page, it's a live one. And his copy of it looked to be a close copy of the current version -- certainly not a five-year-old copy -- so I just deleted it with a note about why.

In today's cleanup work, I did a bit of work on List of Works That Need Summary/People, including putting the two "Other" sections into a single section "Other Creators / Unsorted". Then I made a new section "Authors" and populated it with entries in the Other/Unsorted section that I know are authors. Who did I miss? (Don't tell me here, just move the entries on the page, please.)

I'm crashing for the night shortly, so if someone wants to work on this before I can get back to it... we have a set of pages for http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Hawaii_Five-O]Hawaii Five-O (the original series) and a set of pages for http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Hawaii_Five-0]Hawaii Five-0 (the recent remake). Plus we have a whole set of subpages (but no main page) under the name http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Hawaii_Fi ... 29/Awesome]"Hawaii Five-0 (TV)" that basically have entries for both. We need to move anything off those pages onto the corresponding pages under the appropriate works, then kill these parentless subpages.
