As you said.

When you sit down and read the stories and histories of authoritarians, they all follow the same playbook.
From King Ahasuerus and Haman the Agagite, to Fulgencio Batista, to Duvalier, to Rafael Trujillo, to Pinochet; to Franco, to Stalin, to Hitler, to Boskone, Palpatine, and now Trump and the GOP, and many others fictional and not.

We only keep falling for it because we have become proud of our ignorance of story and history.
“We can never undo what we have done. We can never go back in time. We write history with our decisions and our actions. But we also write history with our responses to those actions. We can leave the pain and the damage in our wake, unattended, or we can do the work of acknowledging and fixing, to whatever extent possible, the harm that we have caused.”
