Germans chide US envoy Grenell for call to 'empower' right

New US ambassador to Germany under fire for rightwing support
“We can never undo what we have done. We can never go back in time. We write history with our decisions and our actions. But we also write history with our responses to those actions. We can leave the pain and the damage in our wake, unattended, or we can do the work of acknowledging and fixing, to whatever extent possible, the harm that we have caused.”

Oh, dear. Has Grenell never been told what "right wing" means in Germany? Or that the USA fought a war against right-wing Germans within living memory?

Well, that’s the problem. For a lot of people in the US, nazism was a left-wing movement. How have they come to this conclusion you ask? Because it was called National Socialism.

These are the consequences of eliminating history courses and replacing them with "American and World Studies" taught by the football coach.

... Reminds me of when Pete Hoekstra was pressed by the Dutch press corps and seemed amazed that the press would not relent.

But the Dutch press isn't as timid as the US' press. Not when it comes to politics.

Most of the political press is more preoccupied with not losing access to the corridors of power, than actually doing their jobs.

Also, the press got cold feet when the Iran Contra affair started pointing towards Reagan. They didn't want to be responsible for ending two republican administrations.
