Oh god, did she ever. It was a real heartbreaker what happened to her.
EDIT: Honestly, Penny in her own way is so human that it's painful. If we stick her with the 33 Stars girls, there will be a lot of teaching moments between them. And not just her to them, but from them to her as well.
