Canadian Press: Canadian Federal Court issues first ever order to block piracy website

On the one hand, it protects intellectual property - which, as a writer, means something to me.

On the other, the article says it wasn't done as a measure of last resort, so there are freedom of expression issues here.
Rob Kelk

"Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law."

"Don't let anyone think for you; most people can barely think for themselves."

Far more harm in setting the precedent than good, I think. It's important for creators to be able to benefit from their work of course, but this is about the worst way to go about it since if they couldn't squash the site owners in the first place all they have to do is register a different domain name and off they go again, in what becomes at best a game of litigious whack-a-mole.
