Having started on Vainquer the Dragon, the big V is really annoying and overbearing, and despite being played for humour mostly just comes across that way OOC as well. Does he get better, does the human MC get better at managing him as an ongoing antagonist, or should I file that as a probable miss?
As for actual fic, Karmic Acumen's Master of Wood, Water, and Hill actually updated after the teaser posted under the same number last week-ish, having been idle for a very long time. The author is shilling for his Patreon, but because he's got an original novel on it; fanfic stuff is apparently to be posted outside the paywall there as he writes snippets and will be updated on FFn when chapters are complete, so that's okay by me. As for the story, that's the one where you can summarize the premise as "What if Bilbo Baggins was a high-level Bard instead of a Thief?" Not that it uses D&D terminology etc., but the archetypes were codified from Tolkien to begin with so they're a good fit.

OTOH, Vainquer is still very arrogant and narcissistic, but comes across as vaguely heroic because the people who keep attacking him are blatantly the bad guys.
