scamper!

ETA: I'll confuse a few people by seconding Wiregeeks 'Hulk Smash' of annoyance at the cliffhanger. Smile

But truthfully, I'm very much enjoying the way that things are unfolding.

I'm sure I missed a few small references, having never seen OMG! aside from a few minutes of random episodes. But I didn't feel like I was missing a
vital plot point once.

Once again with the happy and the joy and the really neat stories.

(the small side of anger at the cliffhanger will be tolerated, because having this now is much better than waiting until the whole story is done ^_^)

Awesome chapter

I know that I'm new around these parts, but I like to say that chapter was was a great ride. I really like how things came out--especially the changing
perceptions of Paradox regarding Doug: from threat (in earlier chapters) to goofball to fellow soldier.

And as a thought: is Chris' "Full Manifestation" his overself--one that is still being created? It sure seems like it.

It's HTML stripping a "translation convention" from the fic. Bob has a mild curse word bracketed by inequality signs. The page took
this for an HTML tag.

And referring to the fic itself... to quote the Taunting Frenchmen, "It's verra nice!"

Ack. I missed one. Possibly the only one.

Lemme go fix it, if I can still FTP out of the Gulag Ambestico.

ETA: Yes indeed, it's the only instance of brocketed English text in the entire chapter. Fixed and uploaded; and for some reason FTP out of my place of
employment is not only working, it's faster than it's ever been before. Weird. But good.

Another fine chapter down. Nice.

Wild-ass speculation:

The weird thing Chris senses about Doug is that he's one of those mortal incarnations of Mara that they were
talking about. The staff is (long forgotten by now) Mara's overself's creation... thus Doug's "Mine!" reaction.

It's almost certainly (99.999999999999999999999999999%) wrong, but, hey, it's amusing.

And possibly even longer in rural areas. I distinctly remember seeing one of these, and I wasn't even born until the early 80's.

For some reason, my subconscious decided to overlay the final scene of Chris leaving the building with AC/DC's Hell's Bells as a soundtrack, complete
with ringing bell. (and of course it would continue over to the start of the next Chapter)

Yeah, It took me a day to digest enough to rationally say... The chapter end had me feeling about the same as the end of PotC 2. One part 'Hulk smash',
two parts 'You Bastards!' and 5 parts 'Its over!'. Tongue

I was so sure that the results of the ceremony was going to be in at the end of the chapter :S

From what I can see of the setup to Chapter 7... If its not going to be truncated into a Chapter 8... will be a spectacular finish among spectacular finishes

Ever read the manga Wish? I wouldn't be at all surprised if the reason Mara wasn't allowed to Redeem in OMB II is similar to the reason the big guy came down so hard on Kohaku in Wish.

(BTW, Wish is a delightful four-volume deconstruction of the themes in Oh My Goddess, as told by Studio CLAMP. It's been completely translated by Tokyopop, so there's no reason OMG fans in North America shouldn't read it...)

One thing I'm a bit worried about is how well the Redemption is going to work. As noted in the chapter, it basically works by tearing down the subject,
striiping out those bits you don't want, then building them back up again.

Thus I have to wonder, what happens to the bits left out? I'll admit I don't know a thing about In Nomine, but from what I gather the Infernal
influences are (basically at least) energy. Will the ritual do some conversion of energys (purifying them? Or is this something the Big Guy Upstairs does by
Himself?), then dumping them back into teh target

(As an aside, since the BGU has done this as a few times, does that mean He's been making visits (And now I can't get the image of Alanis Morrisette
showing up out of my head)? And does that make those places especially Holy?)

Will we have several Giga Slave's worth of Infernal energy floating around? (Remember, Mara's the same level as Belldandy and the latter could easily
crack the planet in two with a sneeze if she wasn't limited.)

(Another aside, is anyone else scared by the though of Rachel and Ami running around as Lina and Naga?)

And what would happen if all that Infernal energy was dumped into the Tether?

Quote:I'll admit I don't know a thing about In Nomine, but from what I gather the Infernal influences are (basically at least) energy.
It's very possible that some of those influences are actually parts of Mara's life force. It's often the removal of Infernal Forces from a demon that turns a Redemption into a death sentence. In the In Nomine canon, where the Archangels perform Redemptions, the failure (and thus death) rate is approximately 1/3. In OMB, where the big guy personally supervises the job... who knows?

And even when the ex-demon survives, the loss of those Forces makes the new angel noticeably weaker than before he, she, or it Redeemed.

Quote:(Another aside, is anyone else scared by the though of Rachel and Ami running around as Lina and Naga?)
While I'm sure there's no problem with either being Naga, neither of them are... petite enough to be Lina.

(ducks and covers, just in case)

Probably going to have a few more comments after this chapter has finished percolating, but...

Quote:Some idle speculation: Why did the big dude upstairs reject the request this time?

Given Kami-sama's apparent style in this story, my guess is that having Doug and the goddesses do it accomplishes some side goal, so he rejected the request specifically to get them to try it.

Good point Morgan, and probobly right on the money; that does seem to rather be this Kami Sama's style.
I'm probobly the only person at the moment who isnt crestfallen over the cliffhanger, after all we knew it was comming, and to me it just feels ...  right
Heavens.  Think about this  The BGU probobly is killing more than ONE bird with the saying No stone.  After all, we just saw Chris invoke his manifestation wiillingly, and his IN compatriots standing guard...

The goal is not just to redeem Mara.

The goal is the character maturation of Chris and his serious acceptance of his godhood, and for Megumi to forgive Mara.

One of these has been accomplished.

The other hasn't.

And then there's goal #3: Get Doug to trust gods.

He may accomplish two out of three goals... But he loses some serious trust-points with his girls, including Belldandy-sama.

EDIT: Oh, and while Doug may wind up trusting The Three in that universe, God himself has probably lost a metric but-ton of trust-points with Doug. I can only
imagine what will happen if the two do manage to meet face to face.
