While the event is true, the bit about the log books turns out to have been embellishment added after the fact -- to make it spookier, I suppose.

Looked this one up. There is apparently absolutely no physical evidence that there even was a prehistoric asteroid impact in the vicinity of Köfels, Austria -- the claim seems to come solely from the guys who wrote a book (A Sumerian Observation of the Köfels' Impact Event, by Alan Bond and Mark Hempsell) about this Sumerian tablet. At least one reviewer cites rampant confirmation bias in the book, which starts out by simply claiming the impact despite the lack of evidence and then gushing about how accurately the tablet recorded it.
