Was this discussed before?

I was just wondering.. people have made characters of our hero Doug in COH,
the question I have is... what if Doug really did stagger in that direction?_______________________________

Huh.
Nope, no one's suggested that.
I'd love to see someone's take on it, though!

I suddenly got a flashback of that ST:TNG episode "Parallels," specifically the scene toward the end where there are hundreds of alternate versions of the Enterprise appearing out of nowhere to surround that poor Ferengi.

Hmmm.
The thing about the CoH universe is...they have a fairly reliable means of interdimensional transportation.
Portal Corp.
Heroes in the CoH world regularly travel between dimensions and alternate realities - and they deal with threats from said realities as well. In the CoH setting, the world is recovering from a major alien invasion, the Rikti War. But rather than being space aliens, per-se, the Rikti are really altered humans from another Earth. (mild spoiler in white)
But, well, fact is, they have scientific experts specialising in charting, exploring, and making contact with other dimensions. Hell, I remember you gotta protect or rescue an ambassador in one mission, so there's even full-fledged diplomatic relations going on.
And it's not like stranded dimensional displacees are unusual to Paragon and the governments of the CoH world.
In fact, one of their premiere heroes, Infernal...well, I've always thought of Infernal as a cop in hot pursuit of a suspect. The chase took him way out of his juristiction... =)
Given that...if Doug were to arrive in the CoH world, what reason would he have to leave under his own power? Considering how Paragon City's like transdimensional grand-central station, he might as well just sit and wait. He'd probably be able to get help in finding his home.
Unless, of course, he doesn't leave on his own accord...
Hmmm.

Seems to me, that CoH is a dimensional skerry. That is, a pocket multiverse, consisting of 13 or so "canon" worlds (the live servers, test, and the novel,) various alternate histories/possible futures (Rikti Homeworld, Fifth Column triumphant, Project DESTINY, and the Portal missions,) and the respective mystical planes and pocket dimensions for various supers' powers.

You know, I like that way of looking at it. If I were to do anything storywise with COH -- which I am not likely to at the present time, so folks can feel free to try their hands -- that's the way I would likely implement it. Portal Corp can't reach beyond the local "skein" of worldlines -- possibly the COH skein is, like Warriors' World, a skewline or is just "remote" within the metaspace in which timelines run.
But that doesn't mean Doug can't learn something from them.
Or vice versa.

I think Doug would be shocked by how his powers seem to be "locked" into one specific song per shard until "Security clearance 50" in each one...
Given his general attitude towards gods, he probably won't like Statesman too much, either.

Only if Statesman actually is a god, which from what little I've stumbled over of the backstory doesn't actually sound like the case.

No, far as I understand, he ain't - "just" a mortal empowered by one. Check out the official CoH comic. Issues 1-4 of the current run go a little into the whole God thing.
There's a fair bit of potential for personality clash, though, between Doug and Statesman. The thing is, as portrayed, Statesman really isn't a very nice guy - compared to say, Captain America and Superman, the characters he's often compared to. Especially in the CoH comics, he's portrayed as fairly uptight and possibly unreasonable. Of course, there's reasons for that - the man truly does feel the weight of responsibility, he's lived for so long, seen so many people die around him, his morality is still stuck in the 1930s...lots of reasons. But the fact remains, he's very much a patriarch-type figure, for good or ill.

Oh, yeah, Doug and the Statesman would definitely rub each other the wrong way. States has all the worst bits of Hexe and none of her good bits, as far as Doug 's concerned, and Doug's rather liberal attitude toward terminal solutions for truly annoying problems might well make him persona non grata around States, and maybe in Paragon City as a whole...

Of course, there's the question of how much contact Doug is likely to have with Statesman...
It's the philosophical differences that seem more interesting to me anyway. Though the games at least seem to be a bit schizophrenic about how you deal with enemies anyway. Yeah, okay, things say "arrest" here and there, but how do you expect anyone to survive some of that?
(I'm not really certain what it's like in CoV, but at least ICly one of my characters tends to leave opponents alive... after all, a dead opponent can't be beaten up again later.)
One thing that might affect Doug's reactions (and thus how much trouble he gets into) would be whether or not things seem to be getting better. Of course things are kind of static playing the game, it's a MMORPG. The comics... well, from what I've heard some of them aren't really very much like the sort of world the game is anyway. (Though I haven't heard about the more recent issues.) But if in whatever world Doug were to visit, non-terminal solutions are generally *working*, he'd probably be more inclined to go along. Which might, in fact, lead to more spectacular arguments, but maybe less chance of having to head for the hills.

Oh yeah, don't fix what ain't broke and all that. But Doug still thinks like a soldier, and if that kind of (re)action is required, he'll take it.

He'd probably get along okay with the Brawler and Manticore, though.Ebony the Black Dragon
