Quote:... I know there's no such thing as overkill. Just 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'. But I have to ask ... why even _have_ them if you won't be using them? It makes people go all:
I can see why you'd think that, and I do have what could be an explaination for Ifurita's enhanced capabilities. However, I'm not planning on Ifurita having to USE those abilities ever again in the story (as I very much doubt such capabilities will ever be NEEDED in the story). Also M and the 'Danelaw will NOT let her off Earth if at all possible.
"Oh, there's Boskonians/Reavers/whatever out there? Meh. Why didn't they just send out Ifurita to take care of them? Why all the strife, why all the trouble? What's the point? She could deal with them without even breaking a sweat, after all."
Scale them down. You can have nifty!power without going overboard. Hell, if you want to include the 'adaptive' thing into it, and absolutely must have 'overkill' in there somewhere, make her fusion capable like a BGCrisis boomer.
That way, you could at least try and circumvent the 'no weapons grade 'wavetech' rule - after all, she'd just be the interface. The weapons would be entirely mundane.
It'd fit the 'Q' role better as well.

Sure, I understand. It's how the idea wrote itself though, and I'm sure you know how insperation is.
Quote:*chuckles* That, my friend, is not a valid excuse. Or reason. After all, so did Katz. And all he got for his trouble was a lousy megalomaniac bugger of an AI with occasional bouts of A.D.D. .
And I was very reluctant to even post it given what's come up in the thread. As for how he got them, M found pure, unadulterated first-gen Handwavium.
If you want to get a better feel for Haruhi (and since you pulled the 'right up her alley' card, you damn well ought to) and don't want to torrent the anime, go here:

And read the novel translations. Or, the first one, at least.
It'll help.
