I've always worked under the assumption that the Slapstick Effect was there, but if you were careful and clever, it could be got around. Hence the
Writer's note about waving the pieces of a Real World gun seperately. Waving the gun in one piece would be a waved weapon, and non lethal to lifeforms,
whereas waving in seperate pieces is essentially just waving pieces of metal.
This is also the reason why railguns have only just made the scene. While waving one together would be relatively simple, it would have a lot of quirks.
Getting the Hardtech to the point that it becomes a practical weapon required more effort than most people would dare think about. Eddie just had a lot of time
and dedication available.
Or he was clever/lucky, like Katz was, and and managed to sneek a weapon past the wave
There is one thing I was saving for SerenityCon that (IMO) explicitly NEEDS the Slapstick Effect to work. If the collective decides otherwise, I'll get rid
of it. But that would be a shame, as I think it'd be usefully Cool.
