[meta] "company to be named later"
[meta] "company to be named later"
#1
I've noticed a few FenWiki entries with infobox or text-body data mentioning something along the lines of "a Fen company, but not one of the usual suspects". Here's a thread to list some of those companies.

The list, so far, is bare-bones - company name, field of interest, and source material - unless I thought of something that might make for the germ of the core of the beginning of a plotbunny.

These shouldn't be added to the FenWiki as-is; they're only here to serve as suggestions.

Companies that aren't yet mentioned in Fenspace (but should they be?):
  • Tyrell Corporation - makers of the Nexus-6 and other models of Replicant bio-roids (Blade Runner)
  • Domesticon - Android servant manufacturers (Sleeper)
  • Weyland Corp. - Terraforming & Evil Trans-Systems Giga-Corp. (Aliens) Becomes Weyland-Yutani Corp. (Aliens Vs. Predator)
  • Cyberdyne Systems - Computer systems & software development (Terminator 2)
  • Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems - Weird Red-Lectroid Science (Buckaroo Banzai)
  • Planet Express - Delivery/Courier corporation (Futurama). (With JMC and HUD already active, we don't really need a third big courier... but there's always room for a niche player.)
Other groups that might or might not exist:
  • The Dictatorship of the Air - H.G. Welles Fen with megalomania, from the group exercising empirical control of the world in The Shape of Things to Come.
  • Diplomatic Order Of Planets ("DOOP") - either what the Futurama Fen are called when the speaker wants to piss off the Trekkies in earshot, or what the Futurama Fen call the Trekkies.

Take whatever you need. Add more if you've got them...

Hmmm... OH!
  • EMCOM - Maker of all kinds of computery goodness.
  • Sienar Fleet Systems - They make TIE Fighters... But if the company flounders, BAT might have a go at 'em. Wink
Well, there's my contribution.  Smile

Strangely enough, I connect Mills Lane to those words.

Sirius Cybernetic Corporation exists. One of their sofware developers was responsible for Shadowrunning....

British Weyland. Space vehicles of dubious quality. Braziers that work in vacuum.

Anaheim Mechatronics. The largest of a number of licensed Replica Grade Gundam manufacturers. Most are effectively oversized toys rather than true weapons. (I may have to use that one)

Stingray Motor Engineering Motorcycle manufacturer employing Fenspace-derived design and production techniques and efficiency boosting wavetech.

Lockheed Martin. Why buy a Replica? Expensive, but will sell base new-build and salvaged airframes of a number of declassified aircraft from the company's history. Will require engines, computers, armaments and wave to be supplied by the owner.

Conwing Producer of spacecraft styled like the 1930's. Their most popular product is the amphibious Conwing L-16.

Ryanair Flights from Shannon to 'Stellvia' that actually dock at Central. Lavatories cost extra

Seburo Heavy Industires. Firearms manufacturer noted for ergonomics and integration of smartgun features. First 'cybergun'

Schneider Racing Technologies Renowed manufacturer of high performance spacecraft and engines based on Mars.

Van Ryan's Express . Light, fast transport in Cislunar space using waved Transit vans.

Steganovich Steelwear The hardsuit manufacturer that used to be good before they got popular. Reputation currently better than the product.

Medical Mechanica Purveyors of wavetech medical devices. And Irons.

Phew...

At least as of a year ago there was an RL Medical Mekanica that had something to do with implanted spinal column braces, if I deciphered their web site info right. Also, the computer company was ENCOM, later taken over by F-Con AKA Future Control Incorporated in the TRON 2.0 video game, which for all its faults was still much better than the second movie.

If it won't cause too much trouble, "stuff built by the Gnarlycurl crew" was really supposed to be Motodyne Industries, branded with an arrowhead

overlapping a circle, vaguely reminiscent of the TOS Enterprise ship logo except for being angular, symmetrical, and having three downward points. Draw an eight pointed star using the skip-two pattern an cut off all but the top and three bottom points then put a circle around the oriignal center that leaves 1/3-1/2 of each bottom point outside and you pretty much have it. It points down on the front of vehicles, forward on the sides, or up on the back, but as a clothing logo it's always pointing up.

No trouble at all - "Motodyne" is now the Gnarycurl "house brand."
