From a technical standpoint, it's just easier to keep the existing reactors going. The core is still intact. The turbomachinery is still good. Only the deaerators have been damaged. Right now, it makes more sense to repair the deaerator stack than it does to completely overhaul the power grid to use a direct-conversion power source.
Anyway, we can put together some options for next month and see what the rest of the rock thinks, but what we can do is really going to be limited by money. Even if CGI provides the reactors, replacing the entire power grid to match will just be a massive civil engineering project.
Who said anything about replacing a power grid? I was just talking about taking a different action to generate electricity... they have a nice reactor at the Labs at Nostromo which puts out a LOT of electricity and I think we have the blueprints somewhere here on the Grid. The superconductors we need will be a bit tricky, but nothing we cannot handle... and the basic materials are not really rare.
So the question is just about "do we want" and "are we willing to spend the time", right? If you want I can do an inventory check if we have the necessary basic materials here or if we would need to grab a few small rocks first.
