AHCA - One More time With Feeling!
AHCA - One More time With Feeling!

One more time and possible outcomes
Actually this might be a good thing. A lot of people would lose their health insurance. A lot of people would go bankrupt. A lot of people would die.  The result:
Quote:The news media will be filled with horror stories of people who lost
their coverage, and in some cases their lives, because of what
Republicans did. If the bill passes, it will result in an outpouring of
rage, particularly on the left but among all kinds of voters, that will
vastly increase the chances of a Democratic wave in 2018 and even 2020.
Looks like a win for me. A win for the GOP because they kept their promise. A win for the Democrats because it gives back control of the government. All you need is a few folks dead and sick. I hope they're not Trump voters, but oh well. you get what you voted for. (Disclamer: *Major sarcasm here*)

And if it harms you, you can always move away!
Quote:You have a heart condition? I hope you’re prepared to leave your job, sell your home, and move to some state that may offer the kind of protections that “Obamacare” already provides to the entire country.
It’s all about congressional Republicans and Donald Trump giving you “choices.”

Kimmel APOLOGIZES
#6
Jimmy Kimmel has expressed remorse for his earlier remarks on healthcare.
Quote:“I would like to apologize for saying that children in America should have health-care. It was insensitive,” Kimmel deadpanned. “It was offensive, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”

GOP congressmen finds out the fallout
The attack ads are writing themselves.
Do they really think Trump will save them? There are 2 prominent GOP congressmen who are not running in 2018 for their seats. Chaffetz of Utah and Labrador of Idaho. The guy who said "None ever died of  lack of health care" Wonder why?

Well, it looks like the Senate and House versions of the repeal and maybe replace bill is deader than a door nail...what the GOP plans to do know is up in the air.

It's not just Repeal and Replace that's dead. Repeal and Wait is also dead; just hours after it was introduced it was killed by 3 GOP Senatrices.

But the way the Repeal and Replace bill died is pretty amazing. Only 13 senators had committed to vote for the BCRA, and 13% approval seems in line with the national polls, but it's unusual for a signature bill. And then two senators with safe seats and distant elections decided to come out against the bill, so that neither would be "that one guy" who killed it. But they're also mainstream Republicans who did not inform the Majority Leader before defecting. So it's easy to read into this that it was deeply unpopular with the Republican senators, and a group of them carefully chose people to be the public face of the defection. They announced this way on purpose, on an day when there was no news to drive the defection, probably in an effort to surprise and embarrass Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The dude that's supposed to be a legislative savant just got screwed by his own caucus and he didn't even see it coming.

And so, six months into the Trump administration, they have zero legislative accomplishments, +1 right-wing Supreme Court justice, a bunch of congressmen with a vote on record to take health care away from 20+ million Americans to finance a tax cut for the rich, a scandal brewing in the White House that somehow manages to get worse every day, and a President who likes "winning" but can't be trusted to sell even the basics of a policy to legislators. Like are they even trying? They could have done an infrastructure bill, got the win, and looked like competent leaders. But now, my Republican friends: Winter is coming.

The sign on Harry S. Truman's desk: "The buck stops here"

John F. Kennedy: "There's an old saying that victory has a hundred fathers and defeat is an orphan.... I'm the responsible officer of the Government."

George W. Bush: "Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me."

Donald Trump: "I'm not going to own this."

Trump actually said that about his Presidency?

Jesus Hopping Haploid Christ on a fucking crutch!!! How out of touch do you need to be to not understand this?!?! Once you're the POTUS then every fucking little thing you do or don't do is scrutinized, and you'll have to own up to it one way or another whether you like it or not!

The video clip was aired many, many times on CNN last night. Not only did he say it, he repeated it immediately for emphasis.

Agreed, and not knowing this ahead of time shows once more just how unprepared he was to win the election.

Well, now Trump is trying to twist arms now that it died. There is no way you can cobble together a replacement bill that's going to satisfy all the GOP. Because what ever comes uot is going to be so brutal that the moment they passed it, Trump will do his victory dance then run as far away from it once it's shown how bad it is.

And it took a tie-breaking vote from the Vice-President to do so.

They didn't have enough support to allow first reading - the point where the chamber simply decides they want to talk about this - without going to a tie-breaker. That's a pretty good sign that they're just going through the motions here without much chance of getting the bill to committee.

And then there was McCain, who the Republicans brought in just to get to the tiebreaker, ripping into his party and telling them he'd never vote for the bill. That was entertaining.

Well, the bill that the House voted and the straight repeal vote crashed and burned. Now, it's the "skinny" repeal's turn. the GOP is just spinning it's wheels hoping to pass something that will get to conference. No one knows what is in this new bill. So the Democrats are going home until the GOP shows a bill to vote on.

Okay, this is getting weird. The GOP senators want a promise that House won't pass the skinny repeal if it get passed.

The logic is they look like they're doing something, but don't actually take part in the epic fuckup. Blame passing at its clumsiest.

I have to say, it's making our political scandal look tame in comparisonSmile

Well, the skinny bill failed. McConnell blames the Democrats. Funny, considering it was a GOP only initiative.

It would have been amusing to see what happens in midterms if they had managed to get any of that passed.  :p
