Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic

Okay, Saturday's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic in Ottawa. It's being held on the grounds of Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General.

This is the equivalent of having a local hospital fundraiser on the front lawn of Buckingham Palace or the White House, letting everyone wander around (and giving tours of the building). "Gravitas"? "Security"? What are those?

Does this sort of thing happen in other capital cities, or is this something that only us oddball Canucks do?

(blows dust off thread)

The skating rink in front of the Peace Tower opens today.

This is the cultural equivalent of opening a public-use baseball diamond on the front yard of Capitol Hill.

Well, I wouldn't do the latter Rob. Too much chance of accidentally knocking in the windows of Congress.

Hey, as long as nobody points before hitting a ball through a Congressional window, it's cool....

Don't let Babe Ruth play, then.

Considering we're riffing off a mention of a skating rink, we'll need a skater of some sort. If only there was a famous ice-skating superhero...
