Issue 11 Announcements
Issue 11 Announcements
#1
It's Official!
The most important part:
Quote:
WEAPON CUSTOMIZATION
Sometimes an assault rifle just isnt the right tool for the job, or character, especially when he or she should be using a sniper rifle instead. Players can now change their weapons in the same way that they change their costume parts! From within the costume creator and tailor screen players select the new Weapons region. A number of new options are now available for appropriate power sets. Current power sets that benefit from this upgrade include Assault Rifle, Mercenaries/Assault Rifle, Bow, Broadsword, Claws, Villain Claws, Dual Blades (see below), Katana, Ninja Blade, Mace, Robotics/Pulse Rifle, and Thugs/Dual Pistols.

Excellent. Now, it would be nice if a Mastermind could pay for costume changes on their minions. I mean, the Honest Gentleman thinks very highly of his boys, but their street rags are seriously harshing his sartorial splendor. It's fine for all those ninjas running around in the Infamous, they're supposed to be in all black. (It's like a union rule.) And the robots can be all clanky, although I think that if Clank Patrol had bots that were a more obviously steam powered, that would be six kinds of awesome. But a man's got to have some standards in his gang; without them, you're just another run-of-the-mill bank robber.Ebony the Black Dragon

Indeed so, Ebony. The major problem with the ninja uniform is that it's, well, so very masculine, and that offends some of the kunoichi in our little group....--

Personally, I'm hoping that this will eventually lead in to visual customization options for more powers. Don't have too many weapon users myself, but I'd really like to get something other than the christmas tree look for Eri... And Dark Armor's a cool set, but more than one toggle at a time and you can't see any of your costume...
Willpower sounds interesting. I don't like the way any of the tanker armors look, and having any tanker I decided to make be invulnerability would become boring. (Not that I have more than one. '.' )
This Ouroboros System though, sounds like it could be *really* interesting. I'm hoping there'll be missions where you can fight the Fifth Column in there somewhere...
This "very rare" thing bothers me a bit though. It seems like the sort of thing that I partly like CoH because it *doesn't* have...
Still, it makes me want to get some more RAM so I can play again. '.'

Are there any screenshots posted yet of the various skins available?

While we're on that topic, could we also please allow FEMALE Minions, too? I know Nogitsune really chafes under that restriction.
Look at the comic book villains. So many times when the villain has henchgirls working for him. (Penguin is the first one I thought of. In both animated Batman series, he has some interesting female accomplices.)
I mean, really, how hard could it be to have a (perhaps limited) set of costume options that you would be able to go into a costume editor for just like with Icon?
How about different types of robots, too? I mean, the ones they have are cool looking and all. But some people (Clank Patrol, for one) have a steampunk style origin. Be nice if we had an option to create bots with a style... oh, say... like the Nemesis bots?

Oh I'd LOVE to see that. If the option exists to change a sword or katana into a more rapier-like weapon, I'd love to have Utena Tenjou over on Justice switch to that.
For that matter, if you have "Valentine" style swords available. Guess how many attempts at Cutey Honey homages there might be. ^_^-Logan

If the assault rifle can be made into a pistol, I might well roll up a Natsuki... or even do something with Kirika, who I've let lapse for quite a while out of dissatisfaction with the ubergun.--

Confirmed Weapon Options
#13
There's no screenshots out yet, per-se, of the various weapon meshes/skins.
However, the developers have been giving some idea of what we'll be getting in board posts and private messages, and answering questions related to the new feature:-
GUIDE: Weapon Customizations, pre-I11 beta
That's a player-created (and maintained) guide by Zombie_Man, one of the CoH forum gurus. Basically the best source of collected info on the subject right now.
Personally, I'm kinda upset that the Rikti weapon options are unlocked by getting the Rikti Invasion Accolade... I only got a full set of those badges on one character - Syndesis. Who is a Dark Melee scrapper. And getting them again is gonna be an absolute pain in the ass. =( Nonetheless, I'll clearly have to try...

That spines thing is kind of disappointing. The powerset is kind of cool, but they're pretty ugly. (The character I made with the spines powerset is really supposed to be a *spikes* scrapper... or maybe "really long needles". '.' )
I kind of wonder why changing the color of particle effects is such a big deal. Most of them seem to be all one color at a time, why is switching that color such a big deal? (But really, I'd be happy with just being able to use a different effect that's already *in* the game, and that doesn't seem like it'd be impossible...)

Okay - I just want to equip Lethal with a shovel (I wonder if I can tint it to look like a paddle)

So it looks like twin daggers will be doable, hmm? But not necessarily a pistol blaster...--

I dunno. If Lethal dove into battle wielding a Spestnaz trenching shovel (which mythically is purported to be their most deadly weapon), I don't think that would be at all out of character. Mind you, I generally think that Lethal beating the stuffing out of villains with whatever happens to be handy (baseball bat, cricket bat, barbecue tongs, rolling pin, frozen turkey, traffic cone, MART-1N, a random passerby, etc.) is in character. I wonder if you could randomize the weapon skin....Ebony the Black Dragon

It's set up to work as a costume part, so, not really randomize, but you could have a different weapon in each costume slot.--

Lethal's a broadsword scrapper, and last I heard we'd been assured shovels as Axe and Mace options - but not broadswords. Which doesn't mean it won't happen, just that it's not been stated as such.

Is that a completely new plate armor set that the model is wearing? ^.^

I recognize the shoulder, hip (belt), and gloves from the samurai set (veteran reward). She also has the chain o-ring (i forget the exact name) on her chest.

So those are existing samurai shoulder and belt patterns...? Well, they look good as medieval bits anyway. Something for me to look forward to come next vet reward day. [Image: smile.gif]

The Samurai Armor Vet Reward comes in three distinct varieties (labeled Ichi, Ni, and San, I think) - the boots, gloves, belt, and chestplate (actually a chest detail) share the same mesh, but there's three skins. One looks functional and utilitarian, the other two are rather more ornate. There's also various helmet details, of course, and I believe the under-armor torso and legging patterns are also part of the vet reward. All in all, you can get a lot of milage from the Samurai pieces. It's a very sweet vet reward, costume-wise. I've got several characters that use bits of Samurai armor or textures in their costumes, none of whom are actual, y'know, Samurai.
