Examples of some COH charactes of mine done in CO (and a couple of others)

Ah right. Ok - you're already familiar with what C8 and Kara look like.
So here's my CO interpretations - these are some of the most recent
screens I have, so they are up-to-date.

Not bad, eh?
Things have to get "interpreted" through the CO lens of course.
One thing that CO DOES do undeniably well - robots.  And as far as homages to specific characters go - here's a couple.

Emerald Blast, Champions Online version.  I am not... completely pleased, but it's close enough for superhero work.[Image: th_screenshot_2012-09-01-21-37-51.jpg]

Yeah, I suppose, but on that note, I haven't found out how to access alternate costume slots on the same character.  If there even is such a thing, I mean.  I assume there's a tailor equivalent for changing the base costume as well, but again, haven't found it yet.

From what I've seen, the free account has one costume. Apparently you get a free costume slot if you join a supergroup, presumably so everyone can have an SG-centric outfit. Gold accounts have more outfit slots, but silver accounts have to buy them.
Also, from what I've seen so far, if you're going to do that (and I assume many will, including myself,) it's more cost-effective to buy the two slots for the account. It's the equivalent of about $5, but it would have the effect of giving every character 3 costumes. Buying another two for the account would give every character 5 costumes, like before.
From the stuff I've seen, the gold account has 8 character slots to start, and every character you max the level out on opens up another free character slot, up to some maximum I don't know. Silvers get 2 slots and have to buy more slots.
Since the cost for a 1 year gold membership is about $150, the lifetime membership is the equivalent of 2 years of subscription access, and unlocks a good chunk of the game, most of the archetypes, and a chunk of the extras. If this game becomes where we go after CoH, then it may something worth looking at, depending on how much you decide you want to play going forward.

Logan, I seem to recall you offering to try rendering people's characters in CO.

How about this one?

That's Iris Kazami, who has kind of been on my mind lately because I've been playing as one of her mothers in Rakuen Revolution. And I've never really been happy with her costume... but if CO can emulate it fairly well, it can probably handle a lot of other things I'd want to do too.

Of course, that's only part of the question. The other part is... are there any powers that actually look like using plants in that game?

-Morgan. Also, if that looks like a plug, it's because it's a plug.

Morganni: As soon as I resub, I'll be able to help in this effort, absolutely! Right now I'm ah... kinda between funds at the moment.

Oh -- one thing I CAN show you is a screenshot I made some time back of a character I made that has some elements of a costume pack you might find useful. It's called the "Harujuku" Set. It's basically a set of "Cute urban fashion"  for girls, based on some trends in Japan. I have NO IDEA how this made it into the game. But it lends a few interesting options. The character below is an homage to Mecha Maid from the Spinnerette Web Comic. Where her outfit isn't metal looking, those are the Harujuku items, like the dress, stockings and such. And yes, you could make a full-on maid outfit with it. Or a schoolgirl outfit.

If I recall correctly, you also get an extra costume slot per 10 levels, like in COH. So if you bought NOTHING except the Gold sub, each character would start with 4 costumes once you hit 40.

But then you hit 40 and you get that extra slot. You can also buy individual costume slots which are cheaper than account-wide ones. Cyberman 8 doesn't need so many. But Kara Skye was my clotheshorse in COH. She would.

There is (UNCLE) one more thing! (/UNCLE)

Costume slots are unlimited. There is NO upper limit. One of my local friends has one character that has over 100+ Costume slots!!  :O

Which is kinda insane, even for CO, but hey. It's your money.

I can help you tweak the proportions on that. Also - the "make-up" option you're using is the "dramatic" one. If that's too much, you can drop it down a notch.

The only proportion that I'm worried about at this point is the fact that O HAI GIRAFFE NECK!

Not sure if that's even an option to change Smile

Also: we've confirmed that you do indeed need to complete the tutorial, log off, and log back in to unlock a lot of the goodies in the costume creator.

Righto. So noted.
Giraffe neck? Hmmm... I'm sure there's a neck thickness slider in there. Can't recall if it's body or face slider options though.

well this was a forgone conclusion, I'm just a little sad I had to roll gamma as infernal/supernatural, the champions equivalent of a corruptor (or as close as I can understand about CO parlance)
Nothing else came close to the radiation powerset in terms of effects (debuffs and damage, and green cause CO doesn't have tintable powers yet)

You're probably right about the debuffs and the general similarity to radiation in COH.
HOWEVER.
You can in fact color tint powers! It's just that...
(wait for it)
You have to be a paid sub to do it. (Saw that coming, didn't you?)

So, I'm giving CO a try, just a try, and I'm still trying to figure out my graphics settings. I like the way folk's screen shots here look, but when I'm going through the tutorial, my screen still has that matte colored look to it (I found the options to remove the black line outlines). I tried making the new Street-Knight and got a decent look, but I can't see the texture to the costume in game.

Thoughts?

While looking into a College in Millennium City, Alice was able to squeeze in a little time to fight crime.

The patterns don't quite match, but I got pretty close to her older hero costume. Her casual clothes are about the same as ever.

I'm not sure. I found the option to remove the comic book lines, but I don't know if you can tweak the graphics so it displays more like CoH and less like Borderlands. It would be nice if that's possible.
BTW: another question. If a person subs, and then goes silver later, do the characters whose components depended on a gold sub become inactive? That could be a problem. It means that if a person wants to keep playing long-term, they have to decide if they want to do monthlies, or pay the $300 to open up the game permanently.

In short, no -- you keep everything if you fall back to Silver status.  You just can't use the gold-level shinies (and have to convert whatever characters you want to play, to Silver, before playing them).

Details from here: http://www.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/F2P_FAQ

EDIT: Oh, something else I discovered.  If you're working on a new character costume, hit the Save button before you tell it to go ahead and create the character.  Because CO is fond of logging you off due to inactivity while you're messing about with costumes, which means all that work you did tweaking it magically vanishes on you.

Fly in the ointment time.

So apparently I had at one time Gold status.  I'm not sure how, because I've never bought or paid a sub for Champions Online.  But the character I created back then is listed as Gold, and I can't play her until I convert her to Silver.

The conversion to Silver consists of a "retcon" (that's the term they use), and can only be done once per character.  It changes the archetype completely.  So basically, if you have a Gold archetype that you haven't paid to have access to in Silver, you will lose access to said archetype.

This was not made as clear as I'd like in the FAQ I linked earlier.

If you played before they went free (there was a free weekend in 08 over halloween, I think) your characters created at that time are "gold" because they were made under the free-form style. As a free player, you can only play "archetype" characters, and not freeform. You can convert between AT and Freeform, but you can only do this once and then you're stuck with it forever.

So the chat system is somewhat akward in my opinion as I've found while trying to get Sil into the Legendary Chat. Once I send invite you'll have to type /channel_join TheLegendaryCO because your not automatically added to the channel when invited. Anyway I'll help as best I can to get people into the channel if I'm on.
