Defensive--
Hit Me with Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar. Causes all ranged and melee attacks made in the area (whether by friend or foe) to squarely hit Doug, who cannot dodge them. He can be knocked down, but gets up again (much like Tubthumping). If the attacks come in a straight line, that can be bad for people standing between them and Doug; alternatively, the effect of the song might actively prevent that, causing bullets to turn in mid-air, etc.
Quote:
Well you're the real tough cookie with the long history
Of breaking little hearts, like the one in me
Thats o.k., lets see how you do it
Put up your dukes, lets get down to it!
Hit me with your best shot!
Why dont you hit me with your best shot!
Hit me with your best shot!
Fire away!
You come on with a come on, you dont fight fair
But thats o.k., see if I care!
Knock me down, its all in vain
Ill get right back on my feet again!
Hit me with your best shot!
Why dont you hit me with your best shot!
Hit me with your best shot!
Fire away!
Well youre the real tough cookie with the long history
Of breaking little hearts, like the one in me
Before I put another notch in my lipstick case
You better make sure you put me in my place
Hit me with your best shot!
Come on, hit me with your best shot!
Hit me with your best shot!
Fire away!
Hit me with your best shot!
Why dont you hit me with your best shot!
Hit me with your best shot!
Fire away!
Rubber Bullets by 10cc. Causes all bullets in the area of effect to permanently transform into rubber bullets. The side effect is that all prisoners (whether convicts or not) in the area will start to riot.
Quote:
I went to a party at the local county jail
All the cons were dancing and the band began to wail
But the guys were indiscreet
They were brawling in the street
At the local dance at the local county jail
Well the band were playing
And the booze began to flow
But the sound came over on the police car radio
Down at Precinct 49
Having a tear-gas of a time
Sergeant Baker got a call from the governor of the county jail
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
I love to hear those convicts squeal
It's a shame these slugs ain't real
But we can't have dancin' at the local county jail
Sergeant Baker and his men made a bee-line for the jail
And for miles around
You could hear the sirens wail
There's a rumor goin' round death row
That a fuse is gonna blow
At the local hop at the local county jail
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Sergeant Baker started talkin'
With a bullhorn in his hand
He was cool, he was clear
He was always in command
He said "Blood will flow;
Here Padre
Padre you talk to your boys..."
"Trust in me -
God will come to set you free"
Well we don't understand
Why you called in the National Guard
When Uncle Sam is the one
Who belongs in the exercise yard
We all got balls and brains
But some's got balls and chains
At the local dance at the local county jail
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Is it really such a crime
For a guy to spend his time
At the local dance at the local county jail
At the local dance at the local county jail
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Empowerment--
Mighty Wings by Cheap Trick. Doug can provide a target with flight powers, and compel that person to carry him around.
Quote:
It's just a ball of dust
Underneath my feet
It rolls around the sun
Doesn't mean that much to me
I take a chance on the edge of life
Just like all the rest
I look inside and dig it out
Cause there's no points for second best
There's a raging fire in my heart tonight
Growing higher and higher in my soul
There's a raging fire in the sky tonight
I want to ride on the silver dove
Far into the night
[Chorus]
Till I make you take me
On your mighty wings
Make you take me
On your mighty wings across the sky
Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings tonight
With just a little luck
A little cold blue steel
I cut the night like a razor blade
Till I feel the way I want to feel
There's a raging fire in my heart tonight
Growing higher and higher in my soul
There's a raging fire in the sky tonight
I want to ride on the silver dove
Far into the night
[Chorus]
Till I make you take me
On your mighty wings
Make you take me
On your mighty wings across the sky
Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings tonight
Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings
Flamethrower by J. Geils Band. Lets Doug empower a female with flame powers, heat vision, and flight.
Quote:
All day long she holds it back
Back with all her might
She carries a burnin' torch inside
She holds it firm and tight
She punches out the clock
While it keeps punchin' out her life
She's a flamethrower, red-hot glower
Flamethrower at night
The things she wears at work
They hang off her kinda loose
Her blouse don't fit, the pants ain't right
She ain't no front page news
But when her work is done
And the daytime turns to night
The headlines flash in neon
That the girl has taken flight
Chairman of the board
Won't look her in the eye
The fire of her vision
His money just can't buy
Silently she waits
Silently she contemplates
She can make 'em tremble
You know the reason why
Chorus
She's a flame - flamethrower
She's a flamethrower at night
She's a flame - a red-hot glower
She's a flamethrower at night
You might think you're burnin'
All your candles at both ends
Maybe you should go to church
To make up some amends
But if you think you're fireproof
So cool and much too much
Don't dare go near my baby
'Cause she'll melt you with her touch
I forget the darkness
I forget the pain
When she's movin' through my heart
And when she's pumpin' through my veins
She's the part inside me
I never can control
And she's the only reason
I know I've got a soul
Chorus
Tonight We Fly by The Divine Comedy. Doug and others in the area of effect gain the power to fly for the duration of the song. Naturally, formation flying is important, lest one fall out of the sky.
Quote:
Over the houses
The streets and the trees
Over the dogs down below
They'll bark at our shadows
As we float by on the breeze
Tonight we fly
Over the chimney tops
Skylights and slates -
Looking into all your lives
And wondering why
Happiness is so hard to find
Over the doctor, over the soldier
Over the farmer, over the poacher
Over the preacher, over the gambler
Over the teacher, over the rambler
Over the lawyer, over the dancer
Over the voyeur, over the builder and the destroyer,
Over the hills and far away
Tonight we fly
Over the mountains
The beach and the sea
Over the friends that we've known
And those that we now know
And those who we've yet to meet
And when we die
Oh, will we be
That disappointed
Or sad
If heaven doesn't exist
What will we have missed
This life is the best we've ever had
Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas. Everyone in the area of effect gains the ability to do eastern martial arts. And not just any, but fully cinematic ones, e.g. qing gong but without wires. It's really not much use in a fight, since the villains get the benefit of it as well. Although, if Doug found himself in a cinematic martial arts area, e.g. Ranma 1/2, he might as well use it, since everyone else he might be fighting can do those things anyway.
Quote:
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoah
[Chorus:]
Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting
Those kicks were fast as lightning
In fact, it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were trapping them up
They were trapping them down
It's an ancient Chinese art
And everybody knew their part
From a fainting, to a slip
And a kickin' from the hip
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky Billie Jim and little Sammy Chong
He said, here comes the big boss, let's get it on
We took the bow and made a stand
Started swaying with the hand
A sudden motion made me skip
Now we're into a brand new trip
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning
But they did it with expert timing
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh,ha
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh,ha
Oh-hoh-hoh-hoh-ha
Keep on, keep on, keep on
Sure enough
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting
Those kids were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit fright'ning
Make sure you have expert timing
Kung Fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning...
Invisible by Dio. Doug and one male and one female of his choice can become invisible, but also have to leave their current location. Useful for retreats.
Quote:
If your circle stays unbroken
Then you're a lucky man
Cause it never, never, never has for me
In the palace of the virgin
Lies the chalice of the soul
And it's likely you might find the answer there
She had fourteen years of teenage tears
And never a helping hand
She had fourteen more of rain before
She saw the sight of land
She was a photograph just ripped in half
A smile inside a frown
And the the light, the answer right
Inside her coming down
I can go away
I can leave here
I can be invisible
He was just eighteen and in-between
A lady and a man
His daddie's girl in momma's world
And that was when he ran
You know the word confused has been abused
But that's just what he was
And then the spark inside the dark
The answer came because it said
You can go away
You can leave here
You can be invisible
Well I grew up quick and I felt the kick
Of life upon a stage
So I bought the book and took a fast look
At just the very last page
It was a single word that I'd just heard
From the two that came before
The only way to realle stay
Is to walk right out the door
You can go away
You can leave here
You can be invisible
You can go away
You can leave here
You can be invisible
You can go away
Lord you know it's right to leave here
So I just become invisible
Healing and similar--
Forever Young by Alphaville. Halts Doug's aging for the duration of the song. Very nearly useless (the song is a little shy of 4 minutes long, so he could get one day's worth if he used it daily for a year) save for unusual circumstances (e.g. a villain who can make people age rapidly).
Lyrics:
Quote:
Lets dance in style, lets dance for a while
Heaven can wait were only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever
We dont have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The musics for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders were getting in tune
The musics played by the madmen
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why dont they stay young
Its so hard to get old without a cause
I dont want to perish like a fading horse
Youth is like diamonds in the sun
And dimonds are forever
So many adventures couldnt happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams are swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

Stayin' Alive by Bee Gees. Same effect as Die Another Day
Quote:
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
Im a womans man: no time to talk.
Music loud and women warm, Ive been kicked around
Since I was born.
And now its all right. its ok.
And you may look the other way.
We can try to understand
The new york times effect on man.
Whether youre a brother or whether youre a mother,
Youre stayin alive, stayin alive.
Feel the city breakin and everybody shakin,
And were stayin alive, stayin alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive, stayin alive.
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive.
Well now, I get low and I get high,
And if I cant get either, I really try.
Got the wings of heaven on my shoes.
Im a dancin man and I just cant lose.
You know its all right. its ok.
Ill live to see another day.
Life goin nowhere. somebody help me.
Somebody help me, yeah.
Life goin nowhere. somebody help me.
Somebody help me, yeah. stayin alive.
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
Im a womans man: no time to talk.
Music loud and women warm,
Ive been kicked around since I was born.
Life goin nowhere. somebody help me.
Somebody help me, yeah.
Life goin nowhere. somebody help me, yeah.
Im stayin alive.
Just Plain Weird--
The U.S.S. Make Shit Up by Voltaire. Similar to Weird Science: Doug can throw together whatever sort of technology he wants (ideally one involving fictional subatomic particles), spouting a bunch of technobabble all the while. Whatever he makes will work, though require constant fiddling with. And if it takes even the slightest bit of damage, it violently explodes.
Quote:
I was stranded on a planet, Just me and Spock
We met a nasty nazi alien who locked our asses up
We found a hunk of crystal and a metal piece of bed
We made a laser phaser gun and shot him in the head
Bust a move, Tog
I was standing on the bridge when Sulu came to me
His eyes were full of tears he said "Captain, can't you see
the ship is gonna blow do something I beseech"
I grabbed a tribble and some chewing gum and stopped the warp core breach
And I say,
Bounce a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish
Thats the way we do things, lad, we're making shit up as we wish
The Klingons and the Romulans pose no threat to us
'Cause if we find we're in a bind we just make some shit up
And though he's just a child, and some think him a twit
Wesley is the master when it comes to making up some shit
He's the guy you want with you when you go out in space
Now if only he could beam those pimples off his face
And if you're at a party on the starship Enterprise
And the karaoke player just plain old up and dies
Set up a neutrino field inside a can of peas
Hold on to Geordi's visor and sing into Data's knee
And I say
Bounce a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish
Thats the way we do things lad, we're making shit up as we wish
The Klingons and the Romulans pose no threat to us
'Cause if we find we're in a bind we just make some shit up
Sisko's on a mission to go no bloody place
He loiters on a space station above Bajoran space
The wormhole's opened up and now they come from near and far
We'll keep the booze but please send back the fucking Jem-hadar
What is with the Klingons, remember in the day
They looked like Puerto Ricans and they dressed in gold lame
Now they look like heavy metal rockers from the dead
With leather pants and frizzy hair and lobsters on their heads
And I say
Bounce a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish
Thats the way we do things lad, we're making shit up as we wish
The Klingons and the Romulans pose no threat to us
'Cause if we find we're in a bind we just make some shit up
Well, I was stuck on Voyager, pounding on the door
When suddently it dawned on me I've seen this show before
Perhaps I'm in a warp bubble and slightly out of phase
'Cause it was way back in the sixties when they called it "Lost in Space"
We were looking for a way to make the ratings soar
So we orchestrated an encounter with the Borg
Normally you'd think that that would get us into shit
But this one has a smashing ass and a lovely set of tits
And I say
Bounce a graviton particle beam off the main deflector dish
Thats the way we do things lad, we're making shit up as we wish
The Klingons and the Romulans pose no threat to us
'Cause if we find we're in a bind we're totally screwed but nevermind
We'll pull something out of our behind, we just make some shit up
Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones. Same effect as Blue, except a different color.
Quote:
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyre all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens evry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then Ill fade away and not have to face the facts
Its not easy facin up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!
Knowledge--
Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd. Temporarily grants Doug the ability to imperfectly fly an airplane but not to navigate it.
Quote:
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to guide my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension thats learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i
Friction lock - set.
Mixture - rich
Propellers - fully forward
Flaps - set - 10 degrees
Engine gauges and suction - check
Mixture set to maximum percent - recheck

Altimeters - check both

Navigation lights - on
Strobes - on
(to tower): confirm 3-8-echo ready for departure
(tower): hello again, this is now 129.4
(to tower): 129.4. its to go.
(tower): you may commence your takeoff, winds over 10 knots.
(to tower): 3-8-echo
Easy on the brakes. take it easy. its gonna roll this time.
Just hand the power gradually, and it...
Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
Theres no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Cant keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, i
Learning to Fly by Tom Petty. Same as above, but without the knowledge of how to land safely.
Quote:
Well I started out down a dirty r oad
Started out all alone
And the sun went down as I crossed the hill
The town lit up the world got still
Im learning to fly but I aint got wings
Comin down is the hardest thing
Well the good old days may not return
And the rocks might melt, and the sea may burn
Im learning to fly but I aint got wings
Comin down is the hardest thing
Well some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I started out for God knows where
But I guess Ill know when I get there
Im learning to fly around the clouds
But what goes up must come down
Im learning to fly but I aint got wings
Comin down is the hardest thing
Im learning to fly around the clouds
But what goes up must come down
Im learning to fly
Im learning to fly
Thnks fr th mmrs by Fall Out Boy. Similar to What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy), but only lets Doug access the memories of his target, and without the pure energy part. Also, this is a post-1998 song, so Doug will have to pick it up along the way.
Quote:
I'm gonna make you bend and break
(It sent you to me without wings)
Say a prayer but let the good times roll
In case God doesn't show
(Let the good times roll, let the good times roll)
And I want these words to make things right
But it's the wrongs that make the words come to life
"Who does he think he is?"
If that's the worst you got
Better put your fingers back to the keys
One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories
even though they weren't so great
"He tastes like you only sweeter"
One night, yeah, and one more time
Thanks for the memories, thanks for the memories
"He, he tastes like you only sweeter"
Been looking forward to the future
But my eyesight is going bad
And this crystal ball
It's always cloudy except for (except for)
When you look into the past (look into the past)
One night stand (one night stand off)
One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories
even though they weren't so great
"He tastes like you only sweeter"
One night, yeah, and one more time
Thanks for the memories, thanks for the memories
"He, he tastes like you only sweeter"
They say I only think in the form of crunching numbers
In hotel rooms collecting page six lovers
Get me out of my mind and get you out of those clothes
I'm a liner away from getting you into the mood, whoa
One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories
even though they weren't so great
"He tastes like you only sweeter"
One night, yeah, and one more time
Thanks for the memories, thanks for the memories
"He, he tastes like you only sweeter"
One night and one more time (One more night, one more time)
Thanks for the memories
even though they weren't so great
"He tastes like you only sweeter"
One night, yeah, and one more time (One more night, one more time)
Thanks for the memories, thanks for the memories
"He, he tastes like you only sweeter"

If your goin' to Winnemucca, Mack with me you can ride

I Heard a Rumour by Bananarama. Allows Doug to know one guaranteed rumor that already exists somewhere; it can't be something that is created as a result of the song being used. There is no guarantee of it being accurate (it usually isn't), or something Doug hadn't already heard. Doug cannot control what rumor he gets. Rumors about celebrities are more likely than any insight as to where a villain's hideout is.
Quote:
Who needs friends who never show
I'll tell you what you wanna know
I could have saved a broken heart
If I'd found out long ago
Chorus 1:
I'm just thinking about
Those lonely nights
When I waited for your call
'Til I found out
All my friends were right, ooh, ooh
I didn't know you at all
Chorus 2:
I heard a rumour
Ooh, ooh, I heard a rumour
They say you got a broken heart
I heard a rumour
Ooh, ooh, yes I did, boy
I heard a rumour, ooh
Now it seems they're telling me
You've changed your wicked ways
But should I give you a second chance
Baby, I'm too afraid
So you realize what hurt you made
And the love you threw away
How can I forgive or soon forget
It's never gonna be the same
(repeat chorus 2 twice)
(repeat chorus 1)
(repeat chorus 2, 3 times to fade)
Mind and Emotion Control--
Talking in Your Sleep by The Romantics. When used on a sleeping target, they'll start disclosing secrets. There's no rhyme or reason as to what secrets they disclose, however; it could range from the missile launch code to the time that they stole uncle Max's toupee. Average people have a lot of secrets, so it's entirely possible that nothing Doug is interested in will be disclosed for the whole length of the song. Also, light sleepers may wake themselves up from the noise.
Quote:
When you close your eyes
And go to sleep
And it's down to the sound
Of a heartbeat
I can hear the things
That you're dreamin' about
When you open up your heart
And the truth comes out
You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
'Cause I hear it in the night
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
When I hold you in my arms at night
Don't you know you're sleeping in the spotlight
And all your dreams that you keep inside
You're telling me the secrets
That you just can't hide
You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
'Cause I hear it in the night
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
When you close your eyes
And you fall asleep
Everything about you is a mystery
You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
'Cause I hear it in the night
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep
Shake Your Booty by KC and the Sunshine Band. Does exactly what it says; effects everyone in the area, including Doug. Especially hard to resist, as it prevents people from fighting the feeling. Another song with a similar effect would be The Hustle by Van McCoy. It's silly, but it can stop a fight in its tracks.
Quote:
Ah, everybody get on the floor, let's dance
Don't fight the feeling give yourself a chance
Shake, shake, shake - shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake, shake, shake - shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, you can, you can do well, very well
Your love can stand the world, I can tell
Oh, shake, shake, shake - shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake, shake, shake - shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty, wow wow, yeah!
Shake, shake, shake, shake
Oh, shake, shake, shake, shake
Oh, shake, shake, shake - shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake, shake, shake - shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, shake your booty
Oh, shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, oh don't fight the feeling
Shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, oh give yourself a chance
Shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, you can do it, do it
Shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, come and love me now
Shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, ooh ooh huh
Shake, shake, shake, shake
Shake your booty, oh come on now sister
Shake, shake come on and shake, shake come on
Your booty do your duty ah hah .....
Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 by Bob Dylan. The number one requested song at parties Doug attends.
Quote:
Well, they'll stone ya when you're trying to be so good,
They'll stone ya just a-like they said they would.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to go home.
Then they'll stone ya when you're there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone ya when you're walkin' 'long the street.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to keep your seat.
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' on the floor.
They'll stone ya when you're walkin' to the door.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table.
They'll stone ya when you are young and able.
They'll stone ya when you're tryin' to make a buck.
They'll stone ya and then they'll say, "good luck."
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you and say that it's the end.
Then they'll stone you and then they'll come back again.
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car.
They'll stone you when you're playing your guitar.
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone.
They'll stone you when you are walking home.
They'll stone you and then say you are brave.
They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
Surrender by Cheap Trick. This only works on a single female target, but will cause that person to surrender to Doug. Naturally, when the song ends, she usually isn't as willing to remain surrendered. It's a cheap trick, but useful.
Quote:
Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you.
She also told me, "Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch."
Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some Indonesian junk that's going round.
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.
Father says, "Your mother's right, she's really up on things."
"Before we married, Mommy served in the WACS in the Philippines."
Now, I had heard the WACS recruited old maids for the war.
But mommy isn't one of those, I've known her all these years.
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.
Whatever happened to all this season's losers of the year?
Ev'ry time I got to thinking, where'd they disappear?
When I woke up, Mom and Dad are rolling on the couch.
Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my Kiss records out.
Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.
Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.
Away.
Away.
Repeat Chorus 7X
Surrender by k.d. lang. Similar, but works on any gender, and any number of people in the area of effect. The subjects will surrender and will believe whatever Doug tells them, for as long as the song lasts.
Quote:
Your life is a story
Ive already written
The news is that I am in control
And I have the power
To make you surrender
Not only your body but your soul
Tomorrow never dies, surrender
Tomorrow will arrive on time
Ill tease and tantalize with every line
Till you are mine
Tomorrow never dies
Whatever youre after
Trust me, Ill deliver
Youll relish the world that I create
Tomorrow never dies, surrender
Tomorrow will arrive on time
Ill tease and tantalize with every line
Till you are mine
Tomorrow never dies
The truth is now what I say
Ive taken care of yesterday
Tomorrow never dies, surrender
Tomorrow will arrive on time
Ill tease and tantalize with every line
Till you are mine
Tomorrow never dies
Tomorrow never dies
Tomorrow never dies
Save Me by Clout. The nearest person to Doug when the song is triggered will help to save Doug from danger and take him away from the action, preferably towards moonlight.
Quote:
Save me
Take me away to the moonlight
The people around me don't feel right
What are we doing here?
Come on and save me
Let's get away from the action
You are the only attraction
Take me away from here
The party's on and one by one
The cars arrive and the people come
And I wonder if there will be anybody here alone
Another marry guy tries to catch my eye
Should I smile or should I sigh?
Then you walked through the door and I saw
That you were all on your own
Save me
Take me away to the moonlight
The people around me don't feel right
What are we doing here?
Come on and save me
Let's get away from the action
You are the only attraction
Take me away from here
We slipped away without a single word
No-one saw and no-one heard
'Cause we both agreed that I just wasn't worth it to stay
I went cold and hot, should I go or not?
You grabbed my hand and I couldn't stop
And I laughed and you smiled as we left and drove away
Save me
Take me away to the moonlight
The people around me don't feel right
What are we doing here?
Come on and save me
Let's get away from the action
You are the only attraction
Take me away from here
Starlit sky, moon on high
Sure feels good to me
And in my bones I've always known
This is how it's meant to be
Save me
Take me away to the moonlight
The people around me don't feel right
What are we doing here?
Save me
Let's get away from the action
You are the only attraction
Take me away from here
Save me
Take me away to the moonlight
The people around me don't feel right
What are we doing here?
Save me
Let's get away from the action
You are the only attraction
Take me away from here

Save Me by Aimee Mann. Similar to the above.
Quote:
You look like
A perfect fit
For a girl in need
Of a tourniquet
But can you, save me
Come on and, save me
If you could, save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
'Cause I can tell
You know what it's like
The long farewell
Of the hunger strike
But can you, save me
Come on and, save me
If you could, save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
You struck me down
Like Radium
Like Peter Pan or Superman
You will come to save me
C'mon and save me
If you could, save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
'Cept the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
But the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
Instrumental Verse 3:
C'mon and save me
Why don't you save me
If you could save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
'Cept the freaks
Except the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
Except the freaks who could never love anyone
Living in the Background by Baltimora. Causes everyone in the area of effect to basically ignore Doug, so long as he doesn't draw attention to himself. He's there, he's perfectly visible, and people can still force themselves to look for him, but he's essentially a background detail and difficult to remain aware of. Sort of like a 'Somebody Else's Problem Field' from the Hitchhiker books.
Quote:
(Been all alone)
'Cause I've been immobilized for so long
(On my own)
Slowly emerging from the dark
(It's just day by night)
I feel like I've wasted so much time
I've been
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Finally decided on a change
(Take a change)
No more cowards holding hands
(Tomorrow brings the unknown)
Well, I'm gonna break up all the rules
(Take 'em all by storm)
Tear down the barriers, on the loose
'Cause I've been
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
We're part of all the story
Well, can't you see
That love has control?
Got no reason now to worry
Just count on me
'Cause love has gotta take control
You can take hold
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background
Living in the background
Living in the background
Finally decided on a change
(Take a change)
No more cowards holding hands
(Tomorrow brings the unknown)
Well, I'm gonna break up all the rules
Living in the background
Living in the background
Living in the background
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Living in the background oh-oh-oh-oh
Living in the background (so true)
Oh-oh-oh-oh

Treat Me Right by Pat Benatar. Subtly causes people in the area of effect to treat Doug 'right': polite, friendly, helpful, etc. Can be overcome, however, and in the heat of battle, it usually doesn't do much. Some punches might be pulled at best.
Quote:
You want me to leave, you want me to stay
You ask me to come back, you turn and walk away
You wanna be lovers, and you wanna be friends
Im losing my patience, youre nearing the end
One of these days youre gonna reach out and find
The one that you count on has left you behind
Dont want to be no martyr, with no one, no say
Oh my, my baby, before its too late
Treat me right
Treat me right
Open your eyes, maybe youll see the light
Do you think Im a fool, well you better think twice
Ive had enough baby, its time you realized
That you cant have it both ways, its no way to live
Youve done all the takin, its your turn to give
One of these days youre gonna reach out and find
The one that you count on has left you behind
Dont want to be no martyr, with no one, no say
Oh my, my baby, before its too late
Treat me right
Treat me right
Open your eyes, maybe youll see the light
Ooh, ooh, treat me right
You want me to leave, you want me to stay
You ask me to come back, youre turnin love away
You wanna be lovers, and you wanna be friends
Im losing my patience, youre nearing the end
One of these days youre gonna reach out and find
The one that you count on has left you behind
Dont want to be no martyr, with no one, no say

Neutron Dance by the Pointer Sisters. Doug becomes radiation-proof, which is good, because he also starts to emit huge amounts of hard radiation, and enough neutrons to cause a small amount of spontaneous fission in the area around him. Generally not a good idea to use this one. Also causes him to be elated.
Quote:
I don't want to take it anymore
I'll just stay here locked behind the door
Just no time to stop and get away
'Cause I work so hard to make it everyday
Whoo oooh
Whoo oooh
There's no money falling from the sky
'Cause a man took my heart and robbed me blind
Someone stole my brand new Chevrolet
And the rent is due, I got no place to stay
Whoo oooh
Whoo oooh
(ChorusSmile
And it's hard to say
Just how some things never change
And it's hard to find
Any strength to draw the line
I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance
I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance
Industry don't pay a price that's fair
All the common people breathing filthy air
Roof caved in on all the simple dreams
And to get ahead your heart starts pumping schemes
Chorus
Whoo oooh
Whoo oooh
I'm on fire
I'm on fire
Chorus
I know there's a pot of gold for me
All I got to do is just believe
I'm so happy doin' the neutron dance
And I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance
I'm so happy doin' the neutron dance
I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance
Together in Electric Dreams by Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder. Places Doug and other people he targets into a virtual reality environment temporarily. Vaguely similar to Nowhere Man but with more of a Tron or holodeck theme. Subjectively, it lasts for as long as the song; to an objective observer, it's instantaneous. Everyone inside the VR world can alter it at will.
Quote:
I only knew you for a while
I never saw your smile
til it was time to go
Time to go away (time to go away)
Sometimes its hard to recognise
Love comes as a surprise
And its too late
Its just too late to stay
Too late to stay
We`ll always be together
However far it seems
(love never ends)
We`ll always be together
Together in electric dreams
Because the friendship that you gave
Has taught me to be brave
No matter where I go i`ll never find a better prize
(find a better prize)
Though youre miles and miles away
I see you every day I dont have to try
I just close my eyes, I close my eyes
Well always be together
However far it seems
(love never ends)
Well always be together
Together in electric dreams
Advice from the Animals by Minstrosity. As with Talk to the Animals, Doug can communicate with animals. But he suffers from a Cassandra curse: no one will believe him, regardless of whether they normally would, or if they also can understand animals, and are likely to cuff him and doubt his sanity.
Quote:
I wandered one day in the depths of the forest
The weight of the world pressing down on my soul
I saw an old fox
And I asked him for guidance
He said "Persevere and you'll soon reach your goal"
Pay heed to creatures that live in the forest
And all of the animals out in the field
And follow advice from the fish in the river
Through all that they tell you, the truth is revealed
When I left the forest, I came to a meadow
Where I saw a stallion enjoying his graze
He said "Do not dwell on the things that upset you,
And you will be prosperous all of your days"
Pay heed to creatures that live in the forest
And all of the animals out in the field
And follow advice from the fish in the river
Through all that they tell you, the truth is revealed
As I returned home, I was crossing a river
I saw a great fish, pressing onward upstream
I asked of this fish, why expend so much effort
He said "It's the only way I'll reach my dream"
Pay heed to creatures that live in the forest
And all of the animals out in the field
And follow advice from the fish in the river
Through all that they tell you, the truth is revealed
Back home I relayed to my wife my adventures
And told her the things that the animals said
She looked at me strangely and picked up a broomstick
And clouded me thrice on the top of me head
Don't listen to creatures that live in the forest
If animals talk to you, that could be bad
If you get advice from the fish in the river
'Tis surely a sign that you're stark raving mad
Don't listen to creatures that live in the forest
If animals talk to you, that could be bad
If you get advice from the fish in the river
'Tis surely a sign that you're stark raving mad
Synchroncity I by The Police. When used, unrelated random events start to form coincidences that somehow work in Doug's favor. It's not controllable, though; it has to be allowed to progress at its own pace. It likely has some ability to affect events in the past in order to set things up. The most interesting indicator of this is that Doug has never deliberately decided to use this song sua sponte. Rather, synchronous events immediately prior to his using the song will strongly suggest to him that he use it, resulting in a predestination paradox.
Quote:
With one breath, with one flow
You will know
Synchronicity
A sleep trance, a dream dance
A shaped romance
Synchronicity
A connecting principle
Linked to the invisible
Almost imperceptible
Something inexpressible
Science insusceptible
Logic so inflexible
Causally connectable
Yet nothing is invincible
If we share this nightmare
Then we can dream
Spiritus mundi
If you act as you think
The missing link
Synchronicity
We know you, they know me
Extrasensory
Synchronicity
A star fall, a phone call
It joins all
Synchronicity
It's so deep, it's so wide
You're inside
Synchronicity
Effect without cause
Sub-atomic laws, scientific pause
Synchronicity

Abracadabra by The Steve Miller Band. Normally, this would probably just be generic fire powers, which grow in power whenever someone calls out Doug's name. But since this is Doug, it might be more appropriate to empower him with silly, cinematic Magic! based primarily on the 1965 Transylvania 6-5000 Bugs Bunny cartoon. Doug can do more or less whatever sort of simple, humorous magic he likes, so long as he speaks a magic (or silly) word (and perhaps the desired result). Particularly effective on vampires. But probably it'll just be fire powers, which is a pity.
Quote:
I heat up
I can't cool down
You got me spinnin round and round
Round and round and round it goes
Where it stops, nobody knows
Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burning flame
Burning flame for desire
Kiss me baby with the fire get higher
Abara abracadabra I wanna reach out and grab ya
Abra abracadabra... Abaracadabra
You make me hot you make me sigh
You make me laugh you make me cry
Keep me burning for your love
With the touch of a velvet glove
Abara abracadabra I wanna reach out and grab ya
Abra abracadabra... Abaracadabra
I feel the magic in your caress
I feel magic when I touch your dress
Silk and satin
Leather and lace
Black panties with an angel face
I see magic in your eyes
I hear magic in your sighs
Just when Ithink I'm gotta get away
I hear those words that you wont say
Abara abracadabra I wanna reach out and grab ya
Abra abracadabra... Abaracadabra
Every time you call my name
I heat up like a burnin flame
Burnin flame for desire
Kiss me baby with the fire
I heat up
I cant cool down
My situation goes run around
I heat up I cant cool down
My situation goes burning down
I heat up I can' cool down
My situation goes running down
Superman by R.E.M.. Obviously, this wouldn't be something Doug would have from his homeworld (unless it's a variant, e.g. (Wish I Could Fly Like) Silverbolt. But assuming that he learns enough about the Superman character, and then gets a copy of the song, it would be extremely useful. Of course, Doug would be temporarily vulnerable to kryptonite, but so long as that remains fictional for him, no worries.
Quote:
I am, I am, I am superman
And I know what's happening.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I can do anything.
You don't really love that guy you make it with now do you?
I know you don't love that guy 'cause I can see right through you.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I know what's happening.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I can do anything.
If you go a million miles away I'll track you down girl.
Trust me when I say I know the pathway to your heart.
If you go a million miles away I'll track you down girl.
Trust me when I say I know the pathway to your heart.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I know what's happening.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I can do anything.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I know what's happening.
I am, I am, I am superman
And I can do anything.
Spider-Man as performed by The Ramones. Same sort of deal as Superman. Instead of being vulnerable to kryptonite, he's vulnerable to the tabloid media. (Which would surely run something like this: www.angryflower.com/spider.gif )
Quote:
1,2,3,4...
Spider-man, Spider-man
Does whatever a spider can,
Spins a web, any size
Catches thieves just like flies,
Look here... here comes the Spider-man
Is he strong? Listen bud;
he's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look over head.
Hey man, there goes the Spider-man.
In the chill of the night
At the scene of a crime,
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.
Spider-man, Spider-man
Friendly neighborhood Spider-man,
Wealth and fame he's ignored
Action is his reward.
Look out... here comes the Spider-man
Look out!
Let's go!
In the chill of the night
At the scene of a crime,
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.
Spider-man, Spider-man
Friendly neighborhood Spider-man,
Wealth and fame he's ignored
Action is his reward.
To him, life is a great big bang up,
wherever there's a hang up,
you'll find the Spider-man!

Ain't That a Kick in the Head by Dean Martin. Doug can only make melee attacks, specifically kicks to the head which will invariably connect. All sorts of acrobatic moves will ensue to allow him to connect, e.g. flying across a room, feet first. Parrying, unfortunately, can also only be done with kicks, which can leave him a bit exposed. Also causes holes to sprout on boats. Basically the same as the song portion of Boot to the Head by The Frantics. Fear Doug's mastery of Tae Kwan Leep.
Quote:
How lucky can one guy be;
I kissed her and she kissed me
Like the fella once said,
Ain't that a kick in the head?
The room was completely black
I hugged her and she hugged back.
Like the sailor said, quote,
"Ain't that a hole in the boat?"
My head keeps spinning;
I go to sleep and keep grinning;
If this is just the beginning,
My life's gonna be beautiful.
I've sun- shine enough to spread;
It's like the fella said,
"Tell me quick
Ain't love like a kick in the head?"
Like the fella once said,
Ain't that a kick in the head?
Like the sailor said, quote,
"Ain't that a hole in the boat?"
My head keeps spinning;
I go to sleep and keep grinning;
If this is just the beginning,
My life's gonna be beautiful.
She's telling me we'll be wed;
She's picked out a king size bed.
I couldn't feel any better or I'd be sick;
Tell me quick, oh ain't love a kick?
Tell me quick, ain't love a kick in the head?
Black Wind, Fire and Steel by Manowar. Gives Doug a body of thick black smoke and a steel sword covered in fire. Also, dark vision, an aura of fear, invulnerability, but an unfortunate bloodlust.
Quote:
Full moon light is calling me
My kigndom lies within
The mystic soul and lions heart
Brought by the talisman
The ecstasy of battle takes me
Where the falcons fly
Immortal youth was granted me
I will never die
Born of black wind fire and steel
Born of black wind fire and steel
Born to teach them all to heel
Born of black wind fire and steel
Pounded by the hammers
Of the giants of the world
I can see in darkness
Im the overlord
Single combat I await
My shadow brings them fear
The spikes upon my chariot
Will grind them when theyre near
Born of black wind fire and steel
Born of black wind fire and steel
Born to teach them all to heel
Born of black wind fire and steel
I am an outcast on the path of no return
Punisher and swordsman
I was born to burn
Black wind always follows
Where my black horse rides
Fires in my soul
Steel is on my side
Born of black wind fire and steel
Born of black wind fire and steel
Born to teach them all to heel
Born of black wind fire and steel
Whip It by Devo. Gives Doug a bullwhip and an expert skill with it. Unfortunately it also causes him to think that every problem must be whipped.
Quote:
Crack that whip
Give the past the slip
Step on a crack
Break your momma's back
When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sits out too long
You must whip it
When something's going wrong
You must whip it
now whip it
into shape
shape it up
get straight
go forward
move ahead
try to detect it
it's not too late
to whip it
whip it good
When a good time turns around
You must whip it
You will never live it down
Unless you whip it
No one gets their way
Until they whip it
I say whip it
Whip it good

Sensory / Communication--
Radio Ga Ga by Queen. Jams all radio audio transmissions in the area of effect by drowning out signals with the song itself ("All we hear is..."). Doesn't work on other sorts of transmissions; the song picks out the nature of the transmission rather than remaining specific to certain frequencies. Thus, while regular wireless Internet signals would not be jammed, a Internet telephony would be replaced by Radio Ga Ga.
Quote:
I'd sit alone and watch your light
My only friend through teenage nights
And everything I had to know
I heard it on my radio
Radio
You gave them all those old time stars
Through wars of worlds -- invaded by Mars
You made 'em laugh -- you made 'em cry
You made us feel like we could fly
So don't become some background noise
A backdrop for the girls and boys
Who just don't know or just don't care
And just complain when you're not there
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio blah blah
Radio what's new?
Radio, someone still loves you!
We watch the shows -- we watch the stars
On videos for hours and hours
We hardly need to use our ears
How music changes through the years
Let's hope you never leave old friend
Like all good things on you we depend
So stick around cos we might miss you
When we grow tired of all this visual
You had your time, you had the power
You've yet to have your finest hour
Radio -- Radio
All we hear is Radio ga ga
Radio goo goo
Radio ga ga
All we hear is Radio ga ga

All we hear is Radio ga ga

You had your time, you had the power

True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Gives Doug magesight. Which is not all that useful; he can already do it. Really only useful in conjunction with a metasong, e.g. letting other people see with it.
Quote:
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow
Crystal Ball by Styx. If Doug already has a suitable crystal ball on hand, he can see up to 24 hours into the future, but only as to his own future (as opposed to someone else's). Accuracy and clarity varies wildly, and more often than not the visions seen in the ball aren't really helpful. (E.g. one time he saw people plotting a murder, but it turned out that he was sick the next day and it was merely a scene in a soap opera he was watching) If Doug doesn't have a crystal ball ready to go, the song doesn't do anything.
Quote:
I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line
I used to think that everything was fine
Sometimes I'd like to sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams
All alone and trapped in time
All alone and trapped in time
I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me
Or am I even in it's mind at all
Perhaps I'll get a chance to look ahead and see
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
Tell me, tell me where I'm going
I don't know where I've been
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
And then tell me again
My heart is breaking, my body's aching
And I don't know where to go
Tell me, tell me, won't you tell me
I've just got to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball
["extra verse" used occasionally live]
If you should see me walking
Through your dreams at night
Would you please direct me
Where I ought to be
I've been looking for a crystal ball
To shed the light
To find a future in me...
To find a future in me...
Crystal ball
There's so many things I need to know
Crystal ball
There's so many things I've got to know
Crystal ball
My Mirage by Iron Butterfly. Gives Doug uncontrollable, random visual hallucinations. It tends to incapacitate Doug, so it's pretty useless.
Quote:
In my mind I see a mirage on the wall,
But unfortunately it's not there at all.
So I guess I'll draw my mirage on the wall,
Then it can be here to see and enjoyed by all.
My mirage, I'll be drawing you soon.
Then all of the beautiful people that come to our home,
They'll be seeing you too.
My mirage,
I'll be drawing you soon,
My mirage, I'll be seeing you soon.
My mirage,
I'll be drawing you soon,
My mirage, They'll be seeing you soon.
Telecommunication by A Flock of Seagulls. Lets Doug mentally access and control any telecommunications network that is accessible from the area of effect.
Quote:

To your solar system
On a beam of light.
This is telecommunication,

Telecommunication,
Telecommunication

Coming through the night
To my T.V. screen,

For the nuclear age.

We Want the Airwaves by The Ramones. Same sort of thing as Telecommunication, but limited to wireless transmissions.
Quote:
9 to 5 and 5 to 9
Ain't gonna take it
It's our time
We want the world
and we want it know
We're gonna take it anyhow
We want the airwaves
We want the airwaves
We want the airwaves, baby
If rock is gonna stay alive
Oh yeah-well all right
Let's rock-tonite
All night
Where's your guts
And will to survive
And don't you wanna
Keep rock n' roll music alive
Mr. Programmer
I got my hammer
and I'm gonna
Smash my
Smash my
Radio
We want the airwaves
We want the airwaves
We want the airwaves, baby
If rock is gonna stay alive
Transformation--
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin. Doesn't physically transform Doug, just alters his mind to a more feminine analogue. Not used often at all.
Quote:
Looking out on the morning rain
I used to feel so uninspired
and when i knew i had to face another day
lord it made me feel so tired.
before the day i met you,
life was so unkind
You're the key to my piece of mind
chorus:
cause you make me feel
you make me feel
you make me feel like a natural woman (woman)
when my soul was in the lost and found
you came along to claim it
i didnt know just what was wrong with me
till your kiss helped me name it.
now im no longer doubtful of what im living for
and if i make you happy i dont need to do more
chorus
ohh baby what ya done to me (whatcha done to me)
made me feel so good inside (good inside)
and i just wanna be (wanna be)
close to you you make me feel so alive
chorus (repeat till fade out)
Changes by David Bowie. Lets Doug change his physical appearance. This can be a disguise, but is really more convenient for getting into costume quickly. Much like what happened to Lisa that time, the costume is real, but he loses whatever he had prior, making it more practical to change the old-fashioned way when that's an option.
Quote:
I still don't know what I was waiting for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't tell t hem to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Where's your shame
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time
Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace I'm going through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Pretty soon you're gonna get a little older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time
I'll Make a Man Out of You by Donny Osmond. Transforms Doug into a man. Rarely useful unless someone's changed him into something else first. Potentially more useful in conjunction with a metasong.
Quote:
Let's get down to business - to defeat the Huns
Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?
You're the saddest bunch I've ever met
But you can bet before we're through
Mister, I'll make a man out of you
Tranquil as a forest
But on fire within
Once you find your center
You are sure to win
You're a spineless, pale pathetic lot
And you haven't got a clue
Somehow I'll make a man out of you
I'm never gonna catch my breath
Say goodbye to those who knew me
Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym
This guy's got 'em scared to death
Hope he doesn't see right through me
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim
(ChorusSmile
Be a man
We must be swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon
Time is racing toward us till the Huns arrive
Heed my every order and you might survive
You're unsuited for the rage of war
So pack up, go home you're through
How could I make a man out of you?
(repeat chorus)
(repeat chorus)
Turning Japanese by The Vapors. Doug's body temporarily becomes ethnically Japanese for the duration. He can already speak Japanese, but if he couldn't, he'd be able to.
Quote:
I've got your picture of me and you
You wrote "I love you" I wrote "me too"
I sit there staring and there's nothing else to do
Oh it's in color Your hair is brown
Your eyes are hazel And soft as clouds
I often kiss you when there's no one else around
I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you all round my cell
I want a doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down
And turning in and turning 'round
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of them all round my cell
I want the doctor to take a picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down and turning in and turning 'round
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women
No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark
Everyone around me is a total stranger
Everyone avoids me like a cyclone ranger
That's why I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
(think so think so think so)
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Transportation--
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. So long as he is in direct sunlight, Doug can walk in mid-air. It's not flying, so if he needs to gain altitude, he'll have to walk up imaginary steps. If the sun is blocked out -- e.g. by a cloud, or a building, or whatever -- then he falls. Falling back into a sunlit area will stop his falling, but feel like hitting the ground. It also causes Doug to feel elated during the song.
Quote:
Oh! Ohhhh yeeeh
I used to think maybe you loved me now baby I'm sure
And I just cant wait till the day when you knock on my door
Now everytime I go for the mailbox , gotta hold myself down
Cos I just wait till you write me your coming around
I'm walking on sunshine , wooah
I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
and don't it feel good!!
Hey , alright now
and dont it feel good!!
hey yeh
I used to think maybe you loved me, now I know that its true
and I don't want to spend all my life , just in waiting for you
now I don't want u back for the weekend
not back for a day , no no no
I said baby I just want you back and I want you to stay
woah yeh!
I'm walking on sunshine , wooah
I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
and don't it feel good!!
Hey , alright now
and don't it feel good!!
hey yeh ,oh yeh
and don't it feel good!!
walking on sunshine
walking on sunshine
I feel the love,I feel the love, I feel the love that's really real
I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that's really real
I'm on sunshine baby oh
I'm on sunshine baby oh
I'm walking on sunshine wooah
I'm walking on sunshine wooah
I'm walking on sunshine wooah
and don't it feel good!!
I'll say it again now
and don't it feel good!!
Flight of Icarus by Iron Maiden. Doug gets a pair of artificial feathered wings, a generic flight power, and a compulsion to fly upwards. Until nearly the end of the song, when the wings burn and he falls. It's not the best flight songs Doug has, but you can never have enough flight songs.
Quote:
As the sun breaks above the ground
An old man stands on the hill
As the ground warms to the first rays of light
A birdsong shatters the still
His eyes are ablaze
See the madman in his gaze
Fly on your way like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your wings like an eagle
Fly and touch the sun
Now the crowd breaks and a young boy appears
Look the old man in his eyes
As he spreads his wings and shouts at the crowd
In the name of God my father I fly
His eyes seem so glazed
As he flies on the wings of a dream
Now he knows his father betrayed
Now his wings burn to ashes to ashes his grave
Fly on your way like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your wings like an eagle
Fly and touch the sun
Tarzan Boy by Baltimora. Provided that he's got a bit of altitude, Doug can jump and make use of conveniently placed swinging vines (created as part of the effect), which just happen to be anchored to whatever's around. The downside is that for the duration, his normal outfit is replaced with the leopard skin sarong.
Quote:
Baltimora
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(4X)
Jungle life
I'm far away from nowhere
On my own like Tarzan Boy
Hide and seek
I play along while rushing cross the forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon
Jungle life
I'm living in the open
Native beat that carries on
Burning bright
A fire the blows teh signal to the sky
I sit and wonder does the message get to you
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(4X)
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other chance
tonight
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other world
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(4X)
Jungle life
You're far away from nothing
It's all right
You won't miss home
Take a chance
Leave everything behind you
Come and join me
Won't be sorry
It's easy to survive
Jungle life
We're living in the open
All alone like Tarzan Boy
Hide and seek
We play along while rushing cross the
forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Chance tonight
Oh Yeah
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Night to night
You won't play
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Chance tonight
Oh Yeah
Night to night
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Ticket to Ride by The Beatles. Doug doesn't get the ticket; the nearest female to him in the area of effect does. It works for anything rideable where tickets are used: buses, trains, planes, ships, amusement parks, etc. Not, OTOH, for private cars, taxis, movie theaters, etc.. And it vanishes when the song is over.
Quote:
I think I'm gonna be sad,
I think it's today, yeah.
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away.
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.
She said that living with me
Is bringing her down yeah.
For she would never be free
When I was around.
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.
I don't know why she's ridin' so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.
I think I'm gonna' be sad,
I think it's today yeah.
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away, yeah.
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.
I don't know why she's ridin' so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me
.
She said that living with me,
Is bringing her down, yeah.
For she would never be free
When I was around.
Ah, she's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.
My baby don't care, my baby don't care.
My baby don't care, my baby don't care.
My baby don't care, my baby don't care.
Thunderbirds Are Go by Busted. This is a post 1998 song, so Doug would have to pick it up somewhere. Summons Doug's choice of vehicle from the old Thunderbirds supermarionation show. Even assuming that Doug is allowed an intuitive knowledge of how to use them (during the duration of the song) it's still not all that useful. Even a hypersonic plane can't go that far in a few minutes. It is showy, however.
Quote:
Spring breaks come around and there's no hero's to be found
There's something major going down on Tracy island, island.
Weapons underground keeping our planet safe and sound
If someone evils coming round they should be frightened (frightened)
Cause now the boys are back in town. No strings to hold them down down.
[Chorus]
Don't be mad please, stop the hating just be glad that they'll be waiting,
Friends we have aren't ever changing
You know the lid's about to blow, when the thunderbirds are go.
Kids are learning fast they know the t-birds kick some ass
Be sure that there's no coming last cause you're on their side (their side)
It always looks so cool when spaceships come out of the pool
You know that you'd just be a fool to be a bad guy (bad guy)
Cause now the boys are back in town no strings to hold them down down.
[Chorus]
Don't be mad please, stop the hating just be glad that they'll be waiting,
Friends we have aren't ever changing
You know the lid's about to blow, when the thunderbirds are go.
Thunderbirds are go,
[Chorus]
Don't be mad please stop the hating just be glad that they'll be waiting,
Friends we have aren't ever changing.
You know the lid's about to blow, when the thunderbirds are go.
Thunderbirds are, Thunderbirds are go
Thunderbirds are, Thunderbirds are go
Thunderbirds are, Thunderbirds are go
Thunderbirds are, Thunderbirds are go.
Jump by Van Halen. Super-jumping over tall buildings in a single bound, etc. It's not flying, but Doug can cover a lot of ground with it anyway. Still, the uncontrollable landings make it advisable to not use in crowded areas.
Quote:
I get up, and nothing gets me down.
You got it tough. Ive seen the toughest around.
And I know, baby, just how you feel.
Youve got to roll with the punches to get to whats real
Oh cant you see me standing here,
Ive got my back against the record machine
I aint the worst that youve seen.
Oh cant you see what I mean ?
Might as well jump. jump !
Might as well jump.
Go ahead, jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
Aaa-ohh hey you ! how said that ?
Baby how you been ?
You say you dont know, you wont know
Until we begin.
Well cant you see me standing here,
Ive got my back against the record machine
I aint the worst that youve seen.
Oh cant you see what I mean ?
Might as well jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
Might as well jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
(guitar solo)
(keyboard solo)
Might as well jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
Get it and jump. jump !
Go ahead, jump.
Others:
These two are pretty similar. However, to avoid it being far too overpowered, I would suggest that they simply reverse Doug's direction in time for the duration of the song, giving him the effect of a little loop back, but having to work to get there, at -(1s/s). That is, when he triggers the song, he immediately goes backwards in time until the song ends or he stops it; the maximum trip he can take is equal to the length of the song, and he has to hang around in the vicinity while he waits for when he's ready to go forwards again. This means that when he triggers it, there are three Dougs at once: Doug, who is moving forward in time and hasn't triggered the song yet but will; Doug', who is moving backwards in time, and subjectively already has triggered the song, and; Doug'' who has already finished moving backwards, and is now moving forwards again.
It would probably be difficult for Doug' to do much; to everyone else, he is going in reverse, and to him, the rest of the world is. Whatever he does, he will have seen the effect already, and will have to immediately figure out what he did in order to bring it about, or risk exploding the universe or something.
Back in Time by Huey Lewis and the News.
Quote:
Tell me, doctor, where are we going this time
Is this the 50's, or 1999
All I wanted to do - was play my guitar and sing
So take me away, I don't mind
But you better promise me, I'll be back in time
Gotta get back in time
Don't bet your future, on one roll of the dice
Better remember, lightning never strikes twice
Please don't drive at eight, don't wanna be late again
So take me away, I don't mind
But you better promise me, I'll be back in time
Gotta get back in time
Gotta get back in time
Get me back in time
Gotta get back in time
Gotta get back in time
Get back, get back
Get back Marty
Gotta get back in time
Gotta get back in time
Get back, get back
Back in Time by Eiffel 65.
Quote:
Here in the open space, where nothing
Seems to move at all.
I can run this race back in time,
From the world I can hide.
Here in the open space where something,
Seems to float and not fall.
I can feel the madness slow down,
Im the master of time
Back in time,
In my time all the time.
Up and down
Every time Im flying.
Back in time,
In my time one more time.
Always up and down.
All the time Im flying high.
Back in time,
In my time all the time.
Up and down
Every time Im flying.
Back in time,
In my time one more time.
Always up and down.
All the time Im flying high.
I feel the madness slowing down.
I feel the lack of time as moves around
Were back into time
Moving around
Flying up high.
Another time travel song, however, could alternatively make for a decent gate song.
Traveller in Time by Uriah Heep.
Quote:
Everyday I have to look to the sun
To see where it was that I belive come from
I have a feelin that there must be a time
When I'll get a change to go home
'cause I'm so tired of being here alone
But I am just a travller in time
Trying hard to pay for my crime
If I could go back the same way I got here
And see the people thet I once help so near
I#d do my best to find an answer for you
But first I must wait till I'm set free
And I don't Know how long that's gonna be
'caose I'm a man with a whole lot on his mind
Just out there somewhere travelling in time
Travelling in time
Of helping mankind
Light Up My Room by Barenaked Ladies. Allows Doug to power lightbulbs if he can touch the contacts on them. (Very handy should Doug wind up with the Addams Family) He can also pick up AM/FM radio on his fillings, but has to be careful not to tune in another song if it might break the effect. Also note that the electricity isn't free; it's drawn from nearby wires via induction.
Quote:
A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
And light up my yard
Late at night when the wires in the walls
Sing in tune with the din of the falls
I'm conducting it all while I sleep
To light this whole town
If you question what I would do
To get over and be with you
Lift you up over everything
To light up my room
There's a shopping cart in the ravine
The foam on the creek is like pop and ice cream
A field full of tires that is always on fire
To light my way home
There are luxuries we can't afford
But in our house we never get bored
We can dance to the radio station
That plays in our teeth
If you question what I would do
To get over and be with you
Lift you up over everything
To light up my room, my room
A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
And light up my yard
Light up my yard
Lights in my yard
Carry That Weight by The Beatles. Doug can carry any amount of weight. The super-strength doesn't extend to lifting, or throwing, or most combat, however. If a jumbo jet falls out of the sky, this is a good song for catching it. Also, it's quite short, so Doug had better put things down quickly or he'll get squished.
Quote:
Boy, you're going to carry that weight,
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're going to carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
I never give you my pillow
I only send you my invitations
And in the middle of the celebrations
I break down
Boy, you're going to carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
Boy, you're going to carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time

Just What I Needed by The Cars. Teleports one person from anywhere in the world to Doug's location, for the duration of the song, then puts them back at the end, provided that they are just what he needs in the present circumstance. This is often a far cry from just what he wants, and puzzling out how they can be helpful, and explaining the situation, usually takes up a lot of time. Plus, Doug often seems to wind up with people who were asleep, or in the shower, etc. since the song doesn't technically take into account what they were doing, and is perhaps a little mischievous.
Quote:
I dont mind you comin here
And wastin all my time
cause when youre standin oh so near
I kinda lose my mind
Its not the perfume that you wear
Its not the ribbons in your hair
I dont mind you comin here
And wastin all my time
I dont mind you hangin out
And talkin in your sleep
It doesnt matter where youve been
As long as it was deep, yeah
You always knew to wear it well and
You look so fancy I can tell
I dont mind you hangin out
And talkin in your sleep
I guess youre just what I needed
(just what I needed)
I needed someone to feed
I guess youre just what I needed
(just what I needed)
I needed someone to bleed
I dont mind you comin here
And wastin all my time time
cause when youre standin oh so near
I kinda lose my mind, yeah
Its not the perfume that you wear
Its not the ribbons in your hair
I dont mind you comin here
And wastin all my time
I guess youre just what I needed
(just what I needed)
I needed someone to feed
I guess youre just what I needed

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer performed by George Thorogood & the Destroyers. The longer the song progresses, the drunker Doug gets. The effects last beyond the duration of the song, and will result in Doug getting a very real hangover later on.
Quote:
Wanna tell you a story,
About the house-man blues
I come home one Friday,
Had to tell the landlady I'd-a lost my job
She said that don't confront me,
Long as I get my money next Friday
Now next Friday come I didn't get the rent,
And out the door I went
So I goes to the landlady,
I said, "You let me slide?"
I'll have the rent for you in a month.
Next I don't know
So said let me slide it on you know people,
I notice when I come home in the evening
She ain't got nothing nice to say to me,
But for five year she was so nice
Loh' she was lovy-dovy,
I come home one particular evening
The landlady said, "You got the rent money yet?",
I said, "No, can't find no job"
Therefore I ain't got no money to pay the rent
She said "I don't believe you're tryin' to find no job"
Said "I seen you today you was standin' on a corner,
Leaning up against a post"
I said "But I'm tired, I've been walkin' all day"
She said "That don't confront me,
Long as I get my money next Friday"
Now next Friday come I didn't have the rent,
And out the door I went
So I go down the streets,
Down to my good friend's house
I said "Look man I'm outdoors you know,
Can I stay with you maybe a couple days?"
He said "Let me go and ask my wife"
He come out of the house,
I could see it in his face
I know that was no
He said "I don't know man, ah she kinda funny, you know"
I said "I know, everybody funny, now you funny too"
So I go back home
I tell the landlady I got a job, I'm gonna pay the rent
She said "Yeah?" I said "Oh yeah"
And then she was so nice,
Loh' she was lovy-dovy
So I go in my room, pack up my things and I go,
I slip on out the back door and down the streets I go
She a-howlin' about the front rent, she'll be lucky to get any back rent,
She ain't gonna get none of it
So I stop in the local bar you know people,
I go to the bar, I ring my coat, I call the bartender
Said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want?
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
Well I ain't seen my baby since I don't know when,
I've been drinking bourbon, whiskey, scotch and gin
Gonna get high man I'm gonna get loose,
Need me a triple shot of that juice
Gonna get drunk don't you have no fear
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
But I'm sitting now at the bar,
I'm getting drunk, I'm feelin' mellow
I'm drinkin' bourbon, I'm drinkin' scotch, I'm drinkin' beer
Looked down the bar, here come the bartender
I said "Look man, come down here"
So what you want?
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
No I ain't seen my baby since the night before last,
Gotta get a drink man I'm gonna get gassed
Gonna get high man I ain't had enough,
Need me a triple shot of that stuff
Gonna get drunk won't you listen right here,
I want one bourbon, one shot and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
Now by this time I'm plenty high,
You know when your mouth a-getting dry you're plenty high
Looked down the bar I say to my bartender
I said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want this time?
I said "Look man, a-what time is it?"
He said "The clock on the wall say three o'clock
Last call for alcohol, so what you need?"
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
No I ain't seen my baby since a nigh' and a week,
Gotta get drunk man till I can't even speak
Gonna get high man listen to me,
One drink ain't enough Jack you better make it three
I wanna get drunk I'm gonna make it real clear,
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
The sun ain't gonna shine (anymore) by The Walker Brothers. Creates a total eclipse in the area of effect, as well as causing the moon to vanish if it is in the sky (which is pretty odd). Good against reverse vampires.
Quote:
Loneliness is a cloak you wear
A deep shade of blue is always there
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky
The tears are always clouding your eyes
When you're without love....(baby)
Emptiness is a place you're in
With nothing to lose but no more to win
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky
The tears are always clouding your eyes
When you're without love....(baby)
Lonely
Without you, baby
Girl, I need you,
I can't go on
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky
The tears are always clouding your eyes
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
When you're without love....(baby)
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore
The sun ain't gonna shine anymore

Off-Limits--
Shock to the System by Billy Idol. Results in Doug gaining electrical powers, but also everyone in the area of effect rioting madly. Also, flammable objects tend to spontaneously catch on fire, and the fire is real, lasting beyond the duration of the song.
Quote:
Woah yeah
It was a night, L.A., burning bright
Oh what a night
Say yeah,come on
It makes my world stand still

Well, at least 3 of those songs have been suggested before (and at least one of those has an official power)
Might I just say 'DAMN! Been saving up for a while?' 8P__________________

What Timote said...
Quote:
Flamethrower by J. Geils Band.
Already defined as a Simulacrum song - specifically, it "[c]onjures a simulacrum of Sailor Mars."
Quote:
I've Been Everywhere by Johnny Cash.

That's a cover, with the place names changed from the original Australian ones. (It was originally by Geoff Mack, back in 1962.)
Quote:
Ticket to Ride by The Beatles. Doug doesn't get the ticket; the nearest female to him in the area of effect does.
But she don't care... which makes the song next to useless.

Must've missed it.

Good catch, but really that would just mean that Doug could choose from whichever version was convenient for him. Presumably they'd both be valid, if either was.

One thing I'd like to know is if a transportation song that involved teleporting to a location merely because the song is about there would be valid. Teleportation beyond the area of effect is already available with Homeward Bound, the issue is just that there's usually no relevant verb with these sorts of things.
If so, there's plenty of possibilities, e.g. New York, New York, I Love L.A., Dirty Water, South of the Border, Moons of Jupiter, etc. But a ruling on this would be helpful before time was spent looking for 'em.

One more suggestion:
Off Limits--
Our House by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. (If Neil Young's involvement is a problem, well, he didn't _write_ the song, so perhaps a cover would be suitable)
In practice, this song has a somewhat delayed effect. It doesn't appear do anything at all until about halfway through the song ("Our house is a very, very fine house") at which point whatever house Doug has been living in drops out of the sky. As do two cats, which aren't necessarily Doug's cats, they're just whatever was convenient for the song to grab; the cats are unlikely to survive. What actually happens is that the house is teleported to a great height above wherever Doug was standing when he started the song; the altitude is determined by a few factors (Doug's altitude at the time, air resistance, etc.) so that it will impact when the fatal lyric comes around. It totally wrecks the house, and the wreckage could be on the other side of the world from where the house was, so that even salvaging whatever's left inside is a pain. If Doug's been living in an apartment, the building will be left with a gaping hole in it.
Doug imagines that this would be spectacularly effective against witches (who are known to be vulnerable to houses dropped on them), but since the cleanup is a pain, and it's all very expensive, and no one who lives under the same roof is willing to let him experiment, it hasn't been conclusively determined.
Of course, he only found out what the song did when he tried it that one time. And he's forever banned from getting homeowner's insurance as a result.
Quote:
I'll light the fire
You put the flowers in the vase
That you bought today
Staring at the fire
For hours and hours
While I listen to you
Play your love songs
All night long for me
Only for me
Come to me now
And rest your head for just five minutes
Everything is good
Such a cosy room
The windows are illuminated
By the sunshine through them
Fiery gems for you
Only for you
Our house is a very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy
'Cause of you
And our la,la,la, la,la, la, la, la, la, la, la.....
Our house is a very, very fine house
With two cats in the yard
Life used to be so hard
Now everything is easy
'Cause of you
And Our
I'll light the fire
And you place the flowers in the jar
That you bought today

See, that's exactly the sort of experimentation that needs to be done in order to find these things out, but no one will let him do it (at least, not at great expense). Current thinking is that whenever the song is used, a fire lights up (problematic if there's no fireplace), fresh flowers and a new vase appear, and the thing with the two cats.
Likewise, if he uses Homeward Bound, afterwards, does it move him to the location of the wreckage? By the time he thought to try after that one time, he had already established a new home, and it couldn't be checked out.
