From the folk/comedy shelf...
From the folk/comedy shelf...
#1
When I was a girl I was idealistic,
Going on the marches, carrying the signs,
Social injustice made me go ballistic,
I cheered for the people on the picket lines.
Well the years went by and I got a little weary,
All tied up in the needs of the child,
I don't read the papers and I have no theory,
But there's one thing that drives me wild:
(I'm talking 'bout)
Stickers on fruit, stickers on fruit,
God, I hate those stickers on fruit,
My distress is so acute
When I deal with stickers on fruit,
Sticker on the apple, sticker on the pear,
Why do they put those stickers on there?
If you don't get them off on the very first day
They take the skin away...
I used to get annoyed at the government of Chile,
I used to boycott Nestle's Quick,
I shed a lot of tears when I watched Free Willy
And O.J.'s trial just made me sick.
I sang at lots of benefits, I wrote a lot of songs,
I got agitated by the agit-prop,
Now I know it's hopeless to right those wrongs,
But there's one thing we've got to stop.
(Are you with me?)
Stickers on fruit, stickers on fruit,
God, I hate those stickers on fruit,
My distress is so acute
When I deal with stickers on fruit,
Sticker on the berry, the red and the blue,
And of course they put stickers on the vegetables too,
Well, call me thick and call me lazy,
But dealing with the stickers just makes me crazy!
Stickers on fruit! Stickers on fruit!
God, I hate those stickers on fruit!
Take me away to the institute
Where I won't have to deal with
Stickers on fruit.

(No, I've never seen this song available for download, maybe because the song immediately before it on the CD is an anti-piracy piece called "And I Copied It". You can order the CD "Stickers on Fruit" from www.borealisrecords.com. Bob, I'll get you a copy of the CD; consider it a very late Christmas present.)
What power would Stickers on Fruit give Doug? Simple: While the song's playing, people aren't fanatical about anything except one extremely trivial thing. That's probably not enough to permanently shake off the Servant Factor personality reprogramming, but for for 2 minutes and 34 seconds they've got relatively clear heads; that may be enough to pass along something important. Just don't show anyone a piece of fruit with a sticker on it while the song's playing...

So you were early...
(Besides, I should have a couple of data CDs to send you Real Soon Now, following up from the one you got a couple of weeks ago; I may as well include an audio CD...)

Oh, very cool. Of course, I still have to sit down and go over the one you sent me, but that's just because my life is only slightly less busy than Grand Central Station.-- Bob
