'If You Still Believe' might be the song that gets Doug home.
It is the theme song of the PS1 game 'Legend of Dragoon' and the main chacter of that game is not Dart, but Rose.  A girl/woman who has been fighting for 11,000 years to save the world.  Strange.  A song sung by a Japanese singer for a Japanese game that was sung fully in English
If not a gate song, than I have no clue what it could be.

Doug's return is already determined and plotted out, but thanks for the suggestion. I have to say, though, that that's one of the better instances of "Japanese-performer-singing-English" that I've heard, and definitely would be a gate song...
