So, I'm going to take a moment to try and start up some speculation.
See, Chapter 33 of Two Halves (Yes, it's out. Go, read. I can wait 'till you get back.) started me thinking.
All through Naruto fandom, we seem to see two real interpretations of the Nine Tails. One school of thought basically says that he (as mythically apropriate as using 'she' might be, that's definitely a male voice) is a big softy who's just misunderstood... or at least, is redeemable.
The other school says that the Kyuubi is a mindless avatar of destruction, a slavering fiend with no existence save killing.
I can't remember -ever- seeing a Kyuubi who was as smart as he was evil, as capable of subtlety as carnage.
Which, it occurs to me, is also a pretty fair description for Hell Sakura.
...Which leads to thinking that Itachi is like Sesshomaru, only without the redeeming human caring. >.< Ow.

"V, did you do something foolish?"
"Yes, and it was glorious."
