Do you guys think it would be a good idea to pin the previous fic recs somewhere for easy access?
I mean this is the fourth thread, and I think at this rate, we might want a sub forum for the new recs...[Image: Bansho.jpg]

hmm pinning the previous threads might just make the board a bit unwieldy in the long run...
The sub forum sounds interesting though [Image: happy.gif]

I'll do the subforum, and lock it to make it a kind of archive -- only filled threads will go there, and it won't be editable.

Bob you can find the names of some of the old fanfic links threads as part of the names of pointers at the top of my links webpage.

Here are the thread names I have.

The One Concerted Reading
=================
I've also updated the webpage and added two new sections one for links I've come across on Space Battles and one for links I've picked up on Temple of Ranma's Senshi Seifuku.
There are fanfics in these two sections not listed in the sections taken from the Drunkards Walk forum and none will be comments like the links from the Drunkards walk forum.

Howard, thanks. I'm coming to think that a couple of these threads were entirely lost in the Great Hacker Attack a couple years back, as I can't find them at all in the conference. So I'm going to put a message with a link to your page in the archive forum.

Resuming somewhat normal service...

OK. I've got two recommendations, but sorry Bob, they're both on Twisting The Hellmouth.
The first is a one-shot which approches a well-trod subject from the other side. Read it here.
The other one is kinda silly and should be good for a few giggles, especially chapters 2 & 3. Read it here.

A decent superhero story. Hopefully it will be a series.

this fic is like a train wreck, I want to look away but I just can't.
That, and it makes me laugh. Bonus, chapter 4 is up.-Terry

At the Hands of the Other is an HP fic featuring a somewhat... different... interpretation of the prophecy.
It's also pretty darned insane.-- This message brought to you by Ely Lilly, makers of SeraFem: Happy Pills for PMS.

Altered History
krakensghost.livejournal.com/39386.html
(scroll down to the links)
Was a fic entered in Kraken's contest, the premise of which was that no one knows Naruto is the Kyuubi container. In this story, Naruto is found in a nursery where all the kids around him were killed due to a poison attack. For years, people have speculated that he was a plant or unnatural or so on. Naruto's passage of the genin exam this time though places him with a... different and unusual... instructor.

So it seems a little overpowered... but I'm so addicted to this fic by now. In a way, the main character reminds me of Drak's Thomas.

Thus, tjal points out one of the stories I had in mind when I said that I was glad Drake and Nate have started fiddling with the G-SeeD setting because most AU and OC-inserts into that setting are crap. I've tried most of Solid Shark's stories, but more than anything else the repetitiveness of them annoys me.
Nate and Drake, at least, know how to make their characters interesting. With Solid, you beg to get the chance to shoot the OC two chapters into the damn thing.
At least, that's what I think.

You are not alone.
Actually, I'm continually fascinated by the way most of that show's writer base seems to be the same age as its core cast. It does the most interesting things to the 'fanon' and recurring fandom tropes...

re: griever, valles

Hrm... well yes. Overpowered. Agreed on the repetiveness. Something to read while I'm on my GS kick! Or *cough* if Valles or Drak wants to save me from corrupting my mind, they could always write faster *cough cough* *hint hint*. And well... overbearing angst sort of makes me want to smack everyone around.
How many people have such overly convoluted and tragic pasts?
On the other hand, he seems to know the series well at least and he plans his stories out -- although they tend to the over dramatic and massive rewriting.
Hrm... I gather it's like reading Wong's JWD series. I really liked it at first - I knew it was massively skewed but well, it's not meant to be serious (I think) - but I couldn't read that fanfic now.
I will say I was really happy to see Cagalli with Kevin though. (I feel petty). I haven't watched the last few episodes of GS yet and only skipping around in GSD, but I am pretty irritated at Athrun's waffling. Okay okay, so there's no angst without him doing his thing - and Gundam series always have angst apparently - and Kira is godlike in ability and temperment, but gosh, you've only been in Orb for two years and already you're skewing rapidly to the side both in terms of your relationship with Cagalli and Orb.
Athrun basically seems like he's looking for that perfect cause without pain -- i.e. that he wants to go back to being a soldier and just a soldier without thinking about his actions (because the cause would be perfect; hence, no thinking required). And then he slides into an obsession with it. Gah. *whaps*
Aside from my minor quibble and unthinking glee over this pre-emption, no, I don't think it's fantastic -- although I think it's not really any better or worse than Betan's story.
Still, something to read and doesn't make me scratch my eyes out due to massive formatting/grammar/spelling issues.
Something A little different, a original time travel story.

www.changingthetimes.net/...n_2002.htm
This is a original work of fiction about the 48 states from year 2002 replacing the 48 states of 1942.
It is a completed work and ends with a victorous US president finding out exactly why most of the US was shifted into the past.
Please don't skip to the end without at least skimming or glancing through the story.

Or is there a bunch of random numbers popping up all over the piece?
The beginning note looks like this for me:
Note: This is the “other side” of the USA ISOT issue I
raised a few days ago. I’ve been working on what happens to the
1942 USA in 2002; I thought it might be fun to look at what happens to
the 2002 USA in 1942. This is just pure fantasy fun, so please
don’t be offended…
It looks like an interesting idea though. It's just ... irritating to read something like this.

Blink. Er... I tried teading that one a while back, reached the second paragraph and then rolled my eyes and left quickly. Looked like typical overpowered OC - was I judging too hastily?
