Fanfiction.net Downloader
Fanfiction.net Downloader

Anyone know of a good program to use for downloading Fics off of Fanfiction.net? Output format doesn't really matter, though .html is preferred. The one I've been using the last little bit tends to leave a mess of HTML tags at the top and bottom of each file.

I like the DeFFnetIzer, though output will depend greatly on the templates you use. I've hacked one together that includes the fic ID number, author's name, and a link to the fic on FFn, which oddly enough did not seem to exist in a single template set as far as I could find, on the base of the default with its light blue sidebars and last-index-next inks at head and foot, but eliminating the header gif that ends up in every single fic's directory separately.

http://www.deffnetizer.com/ is the home page.

If anyone else wants a copy of my templates, say so and I'll zip them up and email 'em. If you'd prefer to work something up yourself, it's not hard to figure out if you just grab a few sets as provided and look at them in a text editor; that's all I did.

There's also the FanFiction Downloader, cleverly hidden at http://www.FanFictionDownloader.net. If you have Calibre installed, it will download directly into MOBI format, and better yet, it understands a dozen or so different sites besides ff.net, and the developer runs polls on which site to add support for next.
ETA:  If you have it running, it also snags the URL for any site it recognizes off the clipboard if you cut/copy it.

One last one to try is a different Fanfiction Downloader at http://fanfictiondownloader.appspot.com/

This one does however require you to have a google id of some sort.

You can also try Read It Later (http://readitlaterlist.com/) for Mozilla Firefox. It does a marvelous job of downloading and preserving FF.net pages, as well as presenting them as 'Articles' that are incredibly easy on the eyes. The best part is that once you download them they can be readily recalled in Firefox for later perusal.

Also great if you happen to own an Android, Apple, Blackberry, or even a Windows Phone device. Tag it for reading later at home, then read it while your out and about or in your spare time.
