i'm curious if this was inspired by recent events in that neck of the wood... am i the only one seeing parallels between what's happening in the story and what's actually happening?

Yeah Diane and I were just discussing that actually. Scott and Walters were created for the Normal op so O'Neill would have some troops to back him and the rest of his team up. Nothing deeper or more pre-planned.

It occurs to me that The Count must really regret the events of Agents. Not only did it reveal the existence of the League to multiple groups and cost him several operations, but it introduced him to several people whom he is often torn between wishing they were dead and wishing they worked for him.

Where is Buffy-Verse Sunnydale, relative to Gilroy, Ca?
Sunnydale is almost canonically where Santa Barbara is in the real world.
