New Fic Recommendations vs. MechaGodzilla II

I think this may be the first pure RWBY fanfic to be recommended here (The Games We Play being a crossover), and it is complete and utter crack:

Extracurricular Activities

...and my shoes began to squeak.

I finally finished reading "Fictitious Persons" today.

And while it was nearly impeccable on the small scale, sentence and paragraph and chapter, it has issues with the larger narrative structure. Namely... there really isn't one. Things just keep happening until there's nothing really left to happen. Admittedly, they happen in a logical order, mostly as consequences of previous events, and they include all the things that really needed to happen -- I can't think of anything that was outright missing. Still, it didn't quite satisfy.

So, still second to "Veritas" in my book.

Pronounced "shy guy."

New Vathara fic:

Thrower of the Dart - Artemis Fowl / Avengers.
Haven't even started reading it yet, barely know zip about Artemis Fowl, but it's Vathara.

Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode.

It's pretty much impossible to do a Sekirei/Nasu crossover without being compared to In Flight, and to a lesser extent with any shonen material, but despite an almost identical start (granted it's a post-FSN Shiro rather than post-UBW, and his backstory and situation as explained later are also somewhat different) DrakeValkyr has taken Shattered Blade in a significantly different direction so far. It does seem to have hit a stall at 8 chapters back in January, but that's no so long in fanfic time, and it's a reasonably complete arc with a satisfyingly intense climax and falling action even if it is really only setting up the board. Technical quality is also generally high, though there are a few examples of places where the spellchecker changed something that was vaguely close to how an uncommonly used word sounds into a different word altogether. Also, while the Sekirei Plan in general is pretty much a plot on rails, it does at least not focus on the car with the Izumo House residents like most Sekirei fics do.

I've just started in on my collection of open tabs with Sekirei fics that didn't sound like they'd be Suckirei fic, so hopefully there be a few more in this vein I can recommend as I work through it.

Agreed. It's that odd mix of serious and crack fic. Although it gets extra points for having Shinji work out from the word go he's not going to out-Gendo Gendo.
Going Native Worm fanfic
Dartz has a fanfic, think it's a self insert started over at space battles called "Going Native".

Just started reading it so can't say much about it, so I'll quote his first line./Quote/Working title was 'Insecurity?'. For obvious reasons. That'll tell you everything you need to know what the inspiration was./End Quote/

That really touched a nerve with some people...

It's sole purpose was to cut down on the use of the word 'was'..... among other little things.

I've read an (AU) Angel the Series/GQ crossover, but it was abandoned years ago.  Not sure if the author is even still writing.

Agree here.  I've never read any other GQ fics, and only because the original setting itself is so fraggin' cracktastic that any fic that tries to ape that is just gonna utterly fail...  at least unless the author REALLY knows what they're doing.
This fic doesn't even try, and it succeeds phenomenally because of that.

Although I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of this.  Wink

So funny.

DayDreamer's fic Dreams of Akasha is not getting enough love - my guess is that it's because it's tagged "Worm/Original/SI." Do not be deterred. This is the good stuff, and anything you need to know about the original setting is explained in story or in omake articles.

Wrong Number, a Doctor Who/Magic School Bus crossover.

It may have been mentioned before (I found the link somewhere recently) but if so just consider it a strong seconding; It Takes a Village (or Sometimes an Army) is hilarious.

Quote:“Um,” Agatha tilted her head slightly, “but Uncle Barry said the old Heterodynes were bad people.”

“But dey vos fun bad pipple,” Oggie said, grinning. “Und dey vos hyu anceztors! Hy tell hyu all about dem if hyu get in bed first.”

Agatha regarded Oggie wide-eyed for a few seconds, ruminating on this offer for a few seconds.

“Okay!” she said finally. “But I'm not goin' to bed 'cause you tricked me, I just wanna hear the stories.”

“Ov courze,” Oggie said and took Agatha's hand, leading her to the next room where they'd set up the bed for her. He threw one last smug look over his shoulder, because the situation called for a little gloating.

There was some eyerolling at Oggie, but he turned out to be a better storyteller than any of them expected. He told Agatha about the time her great-great-great-granduncle Persiflat Heterodyne used a set of giant magnifying lenses to set a troublesome neighbor's castle roof on fire, and even with the girl interrupting to ask questions which clearly exceeded Oggie's limited understanding of science, he managed to make the story sound engaging.

“Hyu tink she gon' be like her poppa?” Maxim asked during a lull in the story, when Agatha asked a particularly tricky question that she was unwilling to let Oggie gloss over.

“Hy tink she vill be Heterodyne in de end,” Jenka replied, tapping the spine of Agatha's book.

The title, in flowery cursive, was '101 Elegant Death Ray Designs for the Fashionable Gentlewoman'.

Quote:The fisherman's son, no older than eight, regarded Agatha with something akin to amazement.

“How do you know?” the boy asked quietly, as Dimo and Maxim settled into the boat.

“I asked,” Agatha said, and the 'well, duh' was implied, even if not spoken aloud.

“Why'd you ask?” the boy said, looking aghast at the thought of questioning a Jäger on any subject at all.

“'Cause that's what scientist do!” Agatha explained with a patient sigh.

“What, ask questions everyone else is too terrified to?” the boy frowned.

“Yep!”

Young Agatha is raised by the Jägermonsters. (Though in the above quotes, they're still on the way back to Mechanicsburg after finding her)

Swords of the Motherworld is a Mass Effect crossover with Star Wars EU, where a bunch of Imperial Star Destroyers with implied resources end up in the Terminus.
Fairly solid writing so far, and the author is updating frequently with fairly large chapters.

An uncomfortable amount of fellating of the Galactic Empire like what happens to the Nazi Wehrmacht for me to continue reading.

Its less kratman-esque love letters to fascism and more an unreliable narrator.
It is told from the POV of an Impie's Impie for most of the first part.
Fallout from the Empire Expats being arrogant humans first types starts to pile up increasingly, and the lead character has to start dealing with consequences. There are also problems coming from her own people when she tries to start changing things to prevent more.

Ranma 1/2. Kill la Kill. Two shows that run on the over-the-top lunacy of the characters involved.  Put them together and you get Insanity Squared.
I like this one as not only does it capture the goofy lunacy of each show, but also the WTF reactions on various sides as they get a look at each other are highly entertaining.

No, I don't believe the world has gone mad.  In order for it to go mad it would need to have been sane at some point.

A nice little one-shot for a rather unlikely crossover: "It Must Be Scratched" (Touhou/Yellow Submarine).
