So I'm reading through the faq and they mention 'hanging out' with a friend to lower the cost of learing jutsu and other goodness. However I am lost as how to start doing so.

it involves friendship points. You get them by having those ninja's on your team and succeeding in missions.

To hang out, you must have the most friendship points for a given character. Look just above the logout button at the bottom of the main page and you should see 'current friends ranking'.
The party house can be used to quickly increase the friendship points by making a party for your friends.

Or you can get lucky in the raffle like I did and win 3000 friendship points for your current teammates.

I'm okay with whatever the Shadow decides to get. I like having other jutsus to learn plus collecting resources gets way more jutsu xp than going on missions. My personal recommendation would be to get something that gives more Stamina.

Some general notes for those who haven't played much.
The animecube codes provide an extra 100 Stamina at 7 days, at the 14 day mark you get the 7 day bonus plus 20,000 Jutsu XP (looking forward to the 21 day bonus)
Another good reason for the Sparing, when you have your 50th fight, you get a bonus of 100 stamina (lWonder if there's a reward every 50 fights?)
Having 'The Original Trio' (Billy, Pinky, Emosuke) provides a +2 level bonus to your stats
Having 'Team Bruce' (Bruce Jr, Meatballs, Lil' Whitey) give a bonus of -50% off Jutsu costs (Total of -25% after Bruce Jr's +25% penalty)
'Team Sandy' (Sandman, Master P., Terri) gives +2 Gen and +1 Str
'Girl Power' (any? 3 girls) give a +1 level bonus

I've been spending about all my money every day in the prize room hoping I'll get a ninja dog for that rather dubiously named jutsu, just to have a
decent chance of getting the item to start those...

Supposedly it's the same rarity level as hairpin pieces, but I currently have 6 of those, and no ninja dog. >.>

On a different note, which upgrades are we planning on getting before joining the war? (I assume not all of them, that would take a while. o.O )

Same here, I have, through sheer bloody single-minded work, managed to get the heck butterfly but I seem
completely unable to get the gloves or the other butterfly to be able to go in. And likewise, I'm hoping to get the dog so I can use the very same jutsu
you speak of.
