In re starting websites/blogs/etc.

So. I'm getting nagged by my father to "create a WEBSITE! MAKE OODLES OF MONEY!"
My big problem? No idea what to do. Blog? Find some sort of tchochke to sell?
Or any advice for how to get started on a blog and let the chips fall where they may?

The first blog entry's easy: just rant about something that inspires you.
The second blog entry... that's a bit more difficult.

This isn't 1999, you need to at least pretend to have something people will want to read on a regular basis, so you can get page hits and thereby add revenue.
Gaming blogs, news blogs, politics blogs, whatever.
