Mythbusters, anime style...?
Mythbusters, anime style...?
#1
Context: Over on Usenet, somebody decided to rant about what he thought copyright law was, and I posted a rebuttal based on what copyright law actually is. At the start of said rebuttal, I said "I see it's time to play "MythBuster" again, on the off-chance somebody actually believes what (name redacted) has posted."

To which, Derek Janssen replied:

Quote:And, in the spirit of Mythbusters:

"Whaddya say, Jamie?"
"Let's take him out to the junkyard, and strap some dynamite to him."
"Good to go. "

Derek Janssen ("Myth #1: CAN you really punch someone into orbit?")

Okay, that's Anime Myth #1 (which I suspect would be totally busted). Any more for the mythical "Anime Myths" episode?

More formally, "The human body contains sixty gallons of blood under high pressure."

"How the hell did I do that?"

- High pressure blood fountains from the nose at the sight of a woman naked/near-naked.

- People who can make a nice curry but anything else they cook results in toxic waste.

Hell, that a guy gets *any* nosebleed when aroused by naked woman.

I mean, guys will happily establish that there is redirection of blood flow, but...

Sudden gusts of wind or low-pressure areas can cause paper-cut-like wounds. (The source of the dreaded Kamaitachi martial arts moves such as the Kijin Raishuu
Dan from Ranma 1/2.)

"The willow bends to reach the stream. And yet, do crabs?"

or sudden gusts of wind that seem to blow at just the right moment to make the scene dramatic :O

Another popular myth in anime: There is a certain point in a giant robot, where if you shoot it there, it will expload! That point being, of course,
anywhere.

"Busted?"
"Wha..."
"Busted or plausible?"
"I don't know. Maybe they should show up dressed that way tomorrow, too..."

Here's one from the fellow I quote in my signature...

If you're fighting for truth and justice, being beaten up will allow you to release your true inner strength and triumph.

"The problem as I see it, Jamie, is figuring out how we determine who's on the side of truth and justice."

"That's true enough. I say that the myth is totally unfounded and bogus. But if that's true, I'm fighting for truth and justice."

"So you'll just get your butt whipped."

"Yeah. Not looking forward to that."

"Buster's a fighter for truth and justice."

"But bereft of independent thought and motion, which means that at best 'releasing his inner strength' means setting off a stick of dynamite left over from a prior test."

I think you meant: Other people can see through your hair, but only the bits that cover your eyes.

Ummmm, you realize you're just begging her to come 'befriend' you, don't....

Oh.  I see.  Never mind that I said anything.  Have fun, you two (or three, if she brings Fate along).
