Grrrr.
Grrrr.
#1
Every few weeks for the last several months, someone has launched a DDOS attack against the TVTropes Wiki. No explanation, no reason, they just start
hammering the wiki, usually through the search prompt.

Looks like the latest iteration started this morning.

Grrrrr.

(And an extra Grrrr to Yuku, which logged me out somewhere between giving me the edit screen and responding to the Post button, then disposed of the new post
while I was logging back in.)

Is that what's causing it? Very annoying, particularly in light of the fact that the Atomic Think Tank (my usual haunt) is also down.

When the wiki is slow or non-existent, it almost always means some scriptkiddie is getting his jollies by trying to ruin something other people like.

Again! And as far as I can tell, this time the site search isn't even active.

Yeah, I saw that, even saved a copy local. BTW, I visited the wikipedia page for TVTropes yesterday, and found links to a bunch of places on the web that reference it, including a short Bruce Sterling piece in Wired...

And now I have to retract my most recent grrr -- it turns out that the XKCD cartoon is responsible for the access problem. It links to the Universal Tropes
page, and apparently the volume of people following the link completely swamped the wiki's server yesterday.
