Do I give a damn? Look, I own physical copies of all this stuff, and I never thought we'd ever see the day when BGC 2032 Light Novels 1 and 2, the 2012-tastic garbage fire Hard Metal Guardians, and the actual Crisis-Crash bridging audio drama Soldier Blue understandable. I've spamposted a lot of BGC shit here over the years and often worried most of it means next to nothing 'round here, but this is nuuuuuts.

The novels themselves are pretty nuts too: Hard Metal is uniformly trying to rip off Railgun as aggressively as it can without the author having half of Kamachi's creative chutzpah (and boy is a Kamachi Crisis a really amazing image, especially after his high-tech Cute Kunoichis novels rely on playing around with high-tech bullshit in ways that'd suit the series well), LN1 Silent Fanfare works amazingly well as what feels like a standalone episode of Crisis with more of Toshimichi Suzuki's particular fascinations worming their way into the thing, and LN2 Break-Down 48 is more a retelling of the whole story in one novel, a sort of Greatest Hits which can't blend into any main story but does stand on its own somehow. I'm pretty sure the one manga Go Go Sabers will be translated soon, and wouldn't be surprised if we see some effort to translate the B-Clubs to boot.
So cool....

One of the core principles of our setting is that fictional characters are actually coming from alternate realities. Fiction describes another world in the many-worlds theory. Mostly, we've thought about it in one direction, about people coming in. But I now ask a question that somehow I've never really asked in a decade:

Who in our own world is likely to be the subject of a fictional story in another universe? I'd love the forum goers to shout out some names.

I suspect there are three kinds of them. First, the people who are somewhat obviously ta'veren (i.e. protagonists), like George Washington, who led a very unlikely life. He may or may not have fired the first shot in the Seven Years War, but he certainly ordered it. Oh, and he became the first leader of the world's most powerful empire. It's like a heroic myth that just happens to be true; I could see someone "inventing him" as a national myth if he wasn't true.

The next kind is the sort of person who finds themselves in a situation where one might make a movie about them, someone who found themselves at a crossroads of fate and seized the day. People like Stanislav Petrov, without whom you and I would not be alive today, nor anyone we know. Being the man who made the decision not to launch sounds like a great social commentary on the risk of nuclear war, very dramatic, and he also exists. Or perhaps someone made a survival film about going to the Antarctic, and how to get out alive, and named his blorbo Ernest Shackleton.

The third type is going to be people mostly unknown to history. Someone had a brilliant love affair, someone else pulled off the perfect murder. The kind of stuff that shows up in lit fic, just ordinary life that's a little bit extraordinary. I don't expect to find any of those, but Andy Weir in our setting is kind of close.

Any other ideas of who's real life might as well be a story?

The third type is going to be people mostly unknown to history. Someone had a brilliant love affair, someone else pulled off the perfect murder. The kind of stuff that shows up in lit fic, just ordinary life that's a little bit extraordinary. I don't expect to find any of those, but Andy Weir in our setting is kind of close.

Any other ideas of who's real life might as well be a story?

I am incredibly surprised that no one has suggested this previously. In fact, I just spent the last 20 minutes searching the boards to make sure I hadn't overlooked or forgotten a recommendation, but other than two fic links, this is basically the first time Kpop Demon Hunters has been mentioned here. I will admit that I haven't actually seen the film yet -- getting Peggy to stop watching her European crime dramas long enough to watch something else with me is a superhuman task that I have to date failed at -- but I've fallen in love with this song. So much so that I find myself re-choreographing the Ministry Battle to use it. If I'm forced to choose between it and Sergey Lazarev's "You Are The Only One", I honestly don't know which I'll pick.

Ugh, you came at a bad time
But you just crossed the line
You wanna get wild?
Okay, I'll show you wild

Better come right, better luck tryin'
Gettin' to our level
'Cause you might die, never the time,
Tryna start a battle
Bleeding isn't in my blood
뼛속부터 달라서 (Because we are different to the very core)

Beating you is what I do, do, do, yeah

Body on body, I'm naughty,
Not even sorry
And when you pull up, I'll pull up
A little late to the party (la-la-la-la)

Locked and loaded, I was born for this
There ain't no point in avoiding it
Annoyed? A bit
불을 비춰, 다 비켜, 네 앞길을 뺏겨 (Shine the light—get out of the way, or lose the path ahead.)

Knocking you out like a lullaby
Hear that sound ringing in your mind
Better sit down for the show
'Cause I'm gonna show you
How it's done, done, done

HUNTR/X don't miss
How it's done, done, done
(Hey) HUNTR/X don't quit
How it's done, done, done

Run, run, we run the town
Whole world playin' our sound
Turnin' up, it's goin' down
HUNTR/X show this,
How it's done, done, done

Yeah, something about when you come for the crown
That's so humbling, huh?
갑자기 왜 그래? 먼저 건드려, 왜? (Why are you acting like this all of a sudden? Why did you provoke me first?)
이제야 포기해 what? (You're only giving up now? What?)

Nothing to us, run up,
You're done up, we come up
From sunup to sundown,
So come out to play
Won either way,
We're one in a million
We kill 'em, like, really? You want it? Okay.

Heels, nails, blade, mascara
Fit check for my napalm era
Need to beat my face, make it cute and savage
Mirror, mirror on my phone, who's the baddest?
(Us, hello?)

Knocking you out like a lullaby
Hear that sound ringing in your mind
Better sit down for the show
'Cause I'm gonna show you
(I'm gonna show you)
(I'm gonna show you)
How it's done, done, done

I don't talk, but I bite, full of venom (uh)
Spittin' facts, you know that's
How it's done, done, done

Okay, like, I know I ramble
But when shootin' my words, I go Rambo
Took blood, sweat, and tears to look natural (uh)
That's how it's done, done, done

Hear our voice unwavering
'Til our song defeats the night
Makin' fear afraid to breathe
'Til the dark meets the light

(How it's done, done, done)
Run, run, we run the town (Done, done, done)
Whole world playin' our sound (Done, done, done)
Turnin' up, it's going down (Done, done, done)
HUNTR/X, show this,
How it's done, done, done

We hunt you down, down, down, down (down)
We got you now, now, now, now (got you now)
We show you how, how, how (show you how)
HUNTR/X don't miss,
How it's done, done, done
