If architects built buildings the way programmers write programs, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization.
... Oh dear. Those three working under Ohtori? This doesn't bode well.
The problem with recruiting exception people to do your dirty work under even remotely false pretenses is that you only have those remarkable people until they catch on.
They all you have are problems and exploding bases.
If I was naming it, I'd call it something like 'The Red Room Failure State'.

The ssheme keeps getting tried because the people running it think they're the smartest person in the galaxy. It it keeps failing like that, because lying again and again is hard. It's energy intensive to put together a front that doesn't match reality, especially when exceptional people are checking what they hear against what they see out in the wild.

Not that there can't be a lot of damage - maybe even from some perspectives enough damage - done before that point comes around. There can be tremendous amounts of damage.

I'm willing to let the long game play and trust in Corwin's curse to provide nudges when most effective though. The playing field here is tilted toward justice, no matter what Ohtori thinks.
Eyrie's added K-ON into the universe.
I must admit, this surprised me.

Oh man oh man oh man...

Once again, Gryphon does not disappoint.
Chapter One of The Federation Lives Forever is up

Forget 'Who are you?' and 'What do you want?' I like the ending question as a B5 sort of social meta question.
What if you could?

It's got that vertigo inducing feel of the impossible being reachable.
Oooh. Dis gunna be good.
Oh man. K-On! has Gryph in its maw and will not let go.

Also, love the parting shot there. Got a good snort out of me.
I love the way the group just kinda shrugs and goes "Meh, it's Mugi" to the announcement. "Of -course- she can do that, she's Mugi-chan!".

Sucrose Octanitrate.
Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode.
Chapter 3 is out.

However, Gryphon is attaching it to message which he's endorsing - so I'm linking to the forum post instead of the chapter directly

Chapter 4 of TFLF is out at the usual place Smile

Oh man. And once again it ends on a hilarious gag.
My brainmeats spewed this as a result of the HTT/HST mashup on the forums. I'm not sorry. Unless Gryphon was already planning to have this happen sometime, in which case I'm sorry for stepping on his toes

YUI: Are you ready, Mio?
MIO: Uh-huh.
YUI: Mugi?
TSUMUGI: Yes! ^_^
YUI: Azu-nyan?
AZUSA: Yeah!
YUI: Ritchan?
RITSU: Okay!
YUI: All right ladies... let's go~!

And they proceed to play the hell out of "Ballroom Blitz". (Admittedly, Mio's "Uh-huh" is rather more desultory than Steve Priest's.)

I don't recall if I mentioned this before, but I think Gryphon has really taken to these shorter chapters. They're coming fast and heavy!

That aside... I've always wondered what those guitars were called. Oh, and Yui singing the blues amuses the hell out of me. Big Grin

To be fair, Yui singing any thing tends to sufficiently amuse us.  She is such an "Animated" character.

Well, that about wraps it up for the Dìqiú Suite:

http://www.eyrie-productions.com/UF/FI/ ... earts.html

Including a crossover of sorts with Geoff Depew's "The Antianeira Incident", which gives me an excuse to list the other pre-existing UF fics that take place wholly or partly in the time-frame covered by the Suite and TFLF:

CSI New Avalon: Parallel Lines
A Certain Obligation
Silver Guardian
Invasion
Last Transport
Agent Selection
Breakthrough/The Way to Go Home
* * *
A Dark and Silent Rendezvous
That Which Does Not Kill Us
The Way of the Warrior: Graduation Day
Welcome to Gotham
Saya
ETA: Anywhere But Here
ETA2: Welcome to the BPRD (On June 4, Henry Shipman acquired Nomia's phylactery)

As you can see, just because Ben's concentrating on events through the Veil doesn't mean nothing happened in the Big Universe.
I find myself feeling rather conflicted about the whole thing developing with Corwin and Korra. I like the individual *interactions*, but the overall path feels very very strange.

On the other hand, I felt similarly about having all this Dìqiú suddenly dropped in the middle of things, but then some of the material that became the Suite sold me on how it all fit into the setting, so it would not be surprising for something similar to happen here.

Some of the Nall stuff bugs me too, but more because the trigger to the entire plot thread never quite made sense to me.

-Morgan.
I think Nall's biggest problem is that he doesn't have a plan. I think his master plan for his life was hanging out on Corwin's shoulder and being snide at people forever. Then he realized that he can't hang out on Corwin's shoulder forever.. and that he doesn't enjoy being small enough to hang out on someone's shoulder.

He tried hanging out on Umi's shoulder, but that was weird, because she was his girlfriend and kind of a badass and he didn't entirely like the idea of being less badass than his girlfriend.

So he tried being more badass. Except this led to wrecking his image as an effective shoulder cat.

And now he looks around and realizes that, in 30 someodd years, every other one of his friends has found something Important, or at least Fun to do. And he hasn't. He's a dragon who has not cultivated a lot of life skills beyond what is required to be a dragon and live in a cave being ominous. And he MIGHT be a little bit miffed at himself over it. So he's trying to sort himself out, and he has this IDEA of what's going on and why he's upset but he CAN'T quite put it into words yet.
- Grumpy Uncle Gearhead
I hadn't thought about it like that, Berk, but I think you're right. You should float that on the Eyrie forums themselves and see what people, and particularly Eyrie staff, think of it.
Hmmm. I can sort of understand it, but it doesn't really feel right to me. (Not intended as disparagement, it just doesn't resonate over here.) And, well, doesn't entirely address my issue.

It comes down to the part in "What's Past Is Prologue" where Nall talks about having broken up with Umi. But I'm not sure Umi thinks that. And it doesn't really feel right for Nall to think so either. So despite liking a lot of the interactions between Lhakpa and Nall, they feel very uncomfortable.

Technical Difficulties, the story about how B'Elanna ended up a Captain, has just been posted.
