  Cloverfield

Brain dump follows:
minor almost spoilers follow. It's a monster movie, your not seeing it for the stunning plot reversals.
good bits:
Great monster design and FX.
Some very humorous lines about people coping with massive destruction.
A semi-realistic ending for the main characters (what happens when you don't leave the first chance you get).
Bad bits:
I understand that it is supposed to be from a handheld camera the whole time but:
A) there where whole stretches of the movie that are nothing but blurs as the characters run, and not seeing what is going on the screen very quickly kills the immersive experience.
B) and other sections where a (if a real person was filming) the camera would point in an entirely different direction.
Also SHORT (80 min)
I give it 3/5, The Host is a much better monster movie.-Terry

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

  Shout-out or Error?
Posted by: DHBirr - 01-19-2008, 01:15 AM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

I've been reading the "Suzumiya Haruhi" novel translations at the Baka-Tsuki site. Recently, I noticed that they're also translating, among others, Zero no Tsukaima, and out of idle curiosity I took a look.
One thing that caught my attention was a reference to the familiar belonging to a fellow named Guiche. His familiar, a giant mole, is named for a figure from Norse mythology, and, although Wikipedia's entry uses the usual accepted transliteration of the name, Baka-Tsuki's version calls the mole ... you guessed it ... Belldandy.
I'm all but certain this is an error on their part, rather than a deliberate salute (or insult). Whatever, I thought it was funny.
Reason for edit: misspelled Guiche's name.-----
Gentlemen, it has long been my conviction that all citizens should provide services for which their talents best suit them in support of those who have been called to duty. In the case of politicians such as yourselves, that would be target practice.

  Max's Silver Hammer - Bio
Posted by: jpub - 01-19-2008, 12:04 AM - Forum: The Legendary - No Replies

Krohn was a criminal; focus on a chemical
Drug lab in his home.
Late nights all alone with a test tube.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
Maximilian Edison, majoring in medicine,
Calls him on the phone.
"Can I come over and talk about your business,
Kro, oh, oh, ohn?"
But as he's getting ready to run,
A knock comes on the door.
Bang! Bang! Max's Silver Hammer
Came down on his head.

I suppose this could have gone in OPF, but it's just a point of trivia.
Ten years ago tomorrow, I created a text file and wrote, "It began with a shooting star." Unusually, that first intro scene survived into the final-so-far revisions of my fic Bubblegum Disaster. I'd hoped to finish Ch 6 for posting to mark the occasion, since it includes the close of 215's introduction arc, but unless tonight's session is unprecedentedly huge it's not to be.

Acyl? Ankhani? I'm sorry if Sharon Kov disappeared on you and you were still there. At least that mission was already completed when it happened!
I can't get back on right now. Keeps saying "DB Server Lost" or something. I'll try again later. But curious if you had the same problem? -Logan
