Had you ever had the feeling...

That the world, no, the entire universe is out to get you?
Let's see..kicked out of the we were living in..
Get the job assignment from hell...
round trip travel time of 3 hours minimum (with no traffic)
takes four hours to set-up a field test under containment conditions, 3 hours to run it, an hour and a half to break down the equipment..
And to add insult to injury..someone locks you inside the containment while you're pulling your gear. You spend 10 minutes screaming and yelling for any one to hear you and let you out. You finally broke the door and had a pissing match with the shift supervisor (who first swore that none of his people locked the containment, then changed the story to that , yet his people locked it, but they didn't see me inside when they locked the containment.
I just got out of the meeting with my boss. Heh, the girl can really calm a raging beast...she'd make a great negotiator.

  Random Alt-History idea
Posted by: Foxboy - 09-26-2007, 04:03 PM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - No Replies

Divergence point: 1926-1927 or so. Walt Disney is treated fairly when the studio he worked for acquired the rights to his "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" character.
Major consequence: Copyright law is much more calmly enforced, for one, and it's not nearly as restricted. In fact, many of the changes in OTL simply did not happen without Uncle Walt's bitter experience with Oswald causing him to give his company a corporate culture of "no! The rights are MINE! PAYYYY MEEEEEEE! FOREVERRRRR!"
This world's US copyrights expire after 15 years. Disney makes most of its money in this timeline through licensing Trademarks, which have more validity to be owned for a long time than copyright.
As a result, I believe that the pop culture is a lot more vibrant.

  Searching for a HP fic
Posted by: darwithe - 09-26-2007, 08:54 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - No Replies

Awhile back I read a 4th year (I think) HP fic where Harry pretended to have Shukaku sealed in him, ala Gaara, after he used a sand spell or something to kill some death eaters at the Quidditch World Cup. I'm suddenly taken with the urge to reread it, particularly the scenes when Harry's on the train and all the muggleborns are objecting that Naruto is just an anime.
Anyone know where/what title?

  [Art/RFC] Rethinking older designs
Posted by: M Fnord - 09-26-2007, 04:08 AM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (16)

So I was doodling in Illustrator, going over older work, seeing what could be improved, changed, etc. and a few hours later I stopped, idly wondering where the hell the evening went, and was stuck with several different design options.
Problem is, I don't know which choice is best. So on that note, I'm putting the following designs up for a vote:
fnord.sandwich.net/fenspa...hoices.jpg
(not direct linking it, because it's big enough to skew most people's browsers).
Out of these four, which (do you guys think) is the best design?---

Ok, so it's Cindy's birthday time again. Just seeing if anyone was interested in arena fighting one afternoon/night next week. I'm thinking Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. Virtue, Pocket D.
Bob, if you can drag Peggy along, that'd be fun.

  Iran Satire
Posted by: Rev Dark - 09-25-2007, 03:38 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - Replies (15)

This is a joke. It is only a joke. The plight of homosexuals in Iran is very real in a head-comes-off-your-body kind of way. However, revealing the biases of whack jobs (Ahmedinjad is a very clever, and media savvy man - even if he is bug-fuck nuts) through satire is often the first step in enacting change.

While appearing at an event at Columbia University, President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad was asked a questing concerning the treatment of women and homosexuals in Iran.
Iran, we dont have homosexuals like in your country. He stated, paused and then continued. Your homosexuals cannot compare to the glorious homosexuals of Iran. Each and every one a muscular, vascular, miracle, covered in enticing man-fur. Arms so strong that when they grip you, you feel as if they shall never let you go. Each one hung like an Italian Sausage shop but only beef sausage of course. When they oil themselves up and ask you to wrestle; it is a joy beyond joys.um is it hot in here next question.

[GURPS Fenspace] Building Tips and Hints
Posted by: Cobalt Greywalker - 09-24-2007, 11:13 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (31)

OK, I thought I'd better split this off as a general purpose thread. Hopefully, those of us with far more experience will help those of us (myself included) with little to no experience in putting together characters in the GURPS system.
I personally have a few questions:
1) Is there a list somewhere that contains various Talent and Wildcard Skills packages? I've done some further experimentation in putting A.C.'s stats together and my lists are getting a little long.
2) Are there any advantages, disadvantages, skills, etc that we could put into a sort of Fenspacer racial template or we accept as given in the world?
3) Should we try and put together some advantages, disadvantages, and skills for use in the setting (e.g. an Handwaving skill (IQ/Hard?) or similar?)

David Vitter is a hypocrite Jerk-Off
Posted by: Rev Dark - 09-24-2007, 07:44 PM - Forum: Politics and Other Fun - No Replies

Louisiana Senator David Vitter (Republican) is a hypocrite jerk-off. Yes, Vitter has been in the news a great deal lately. He is a big supporter of abstinence education and strongly against same sex marriage. He upholds the sanctity of marriage and was very, very stern with Bill Clintons adultery with Monica Lewinski. Big fan of the Christian god too.
He also frequents prostitutes; while married; and presumably used birth control; lied about it until elected; and then let it slip when he could no longer cover it up.
Hypocrite.
Well it just keeps getting better and better. It has just been revealed that laughing boy has been trying to break down the wall separating church and state. He did this by earmarking significant funds to the Louisiana Family Forum to, as was stated, to develop a plan to promote better science education.
Yes. It is another attempt to drive creationism into the forum of public education. Teach the controversy. Teach the alternate theories.
How can I put this succinctly I know - Fuck you in the neck motherfucker!
First off. Creationism/intelligent design is not an alternate theory. It is not even a theory. It is not even science. Irreducible complexity is a fancy way of saying dont know, dont want to know, Goddidit! It makes no predictions; offers no evidence as to an external agent; and every time it tries to bring up an example of irreducible complexity it is met with published, peer reviewed papers that explain that which was thought to be irreducible.
Second off. Teach the controversy is bullshit. There is no controversy among scientists. There are mountains of evidence supporting natural selection. Intelligent Design lists a handful of peer reviewed papers but review of the review process and the contents of the papers quickly put and end to that line. The controversy between Natural Selection and Intelligent Design is the same as the controversy between homo sapiens sexual reproduction and avian delivered parthenogenesis (the Stork Theory.) Alternately it could be compared to the controversy between homo sapiens sexual reproduction and the theory of brassican-interlocation theory (cabbage leaf theory.)
Third off. A deeper look at the parties involved will demonstrate that the Louisiana Family Forum is not only devoted to a religious interpretation of creation (masked in Intelligent Design); but also has significant ties to Vitters political campaign (Vitter employed several Forum employees during his political campaigns.)
Why he hasnt been tossed from office is a wonder (no it isnt it has to do with the succession of his office and the balance of the Senate)

Things that are hard to find.

These days, it seems like there are a lot of authors whose websites have disappeared, and even with the internet archive, finding things can be difficult.
So, since I spent a lot of time looking for this, I thought I'd share it.
web.archive.org/web/20051...?pageid=11
Here we have the page for "The Virus". Most of these stories I'd managed to find other places, but one I couldn't find (because I couldn't remember the title or author) was "Interpersonal Effects" by Siaru.
(Though it also turns out to be on the author's website here. Wouldn't have found it until after I knew who the author was though...)
