I took the time last night and removed two characters from the SG.
Kikukawa Yukino, she's mine and I don't play her anyway. and
Reflected Glory.
I sent Reflected an E-Mail letting them know when they want to join up again to contact myself, Eva, or Lora, just to be nice since I have no Friggin Idea who plays her.
oh and Shizuru hit level 43.
That is all.

  Soul Mismatch Error
Posted by: Valles - 02-01-2007, 07:21 AM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (5)

So, I've been thinking about a Mai-HiME plot bunny.
Say that, rather than telling the Obsidian Lord to go do something anatomically impossible, Mai accepts his offer, then promptly backstabs him before he can lock her away.
Then, rather than making a world according to her desires, she starts trying to set up various combinations of events to try and achieve the best balance between everyone's ideals.
And what the heck does that mean? It means that she creates the Mai-HiME manga continuity. And Otome. And its manga. And quite possibly a large number of other universes. And then lets them collapse when they all end up averaging exactly the same.
Eventually, she concludes that that line of investigation is a dead end and follows the logic that she jumped to intuitively in canon - that the most moral choice was to let people make their own decisions, and just hope for the best.
But... those 'possibility model' worlds... they were real, too, in their own way. Maybe not as real, but...
So she thought about it for a while, then restarted the 'real' world... while letting people remember any lives they had lived in the projections. Then she took the power from the festival... and spread it out thin, tucking it away in individual shares for people to access or not, as they chose.
Created magic. Rather than stay God.
Of course, that meant that the HiME were still HiME, but hey - Kagutsuchi might be a heckova problem to house-train, but no one could say he wasn't useful...
Then, at last, she goes to bed and sleeps the sleep of the just.
And when she wakes up she realizes that the rules mean she's remembering the lives she would have had, also.
What happens next? Well...

Okay, so, the reason for the thread title is that each person in the story had at the very least several additional lifetimes, whom we may or may not recognize.
Well, whom we likely will recognize, given what's shown in the Mai-X franchise - that people's appearances don't really change from one 'incarnation' to the next, allowing for differences in art style.
Which is why Mai can remember being a Trouble Consultant with a bad reputation, or a gravatic engineer who was once stranded on a desert planet when she was still in primary school. Why Nao knows magic and has started to babble when she gets nervous and thinks she might be kinda gay now. Or bi, she's not sure. Why Takumi has gotten much better at wisecracks and wants to start growing his hair out into a long braid. Why Yukariko's grown a spine and has taken up track. Why Akira has a sudden fondness for baggy jackets and keeps catching herself stuttering. Why Shiho has suddenly switched to a pre-med study track, and can crack boulders with her bare hands. Or even why Midori learned German overnight and has conceived a sudden horror of dolls.
I'm sure there are some things I'm missing...

  The Fenchurch
Posted by: Acyl - 01-31-2007, 05:46 AM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (17)

This is a very strange idea. It just...hit me...and won't let go. I'm posting it now that I have proper computer access. I don't actually have any plans for this...it's just a sort of random universe rumination.
Might try to work up a short fic based on this. Once I actually finish the current bit of Fenspace writing I'm doing (an Island origin story).
This is presented largely as a Gazetteer entry, though I'd like...I dunno, input before I toss it into that thread. I'm just typing this out off the top of my 'ead here, I'm sleepy, and I'm not sure if I'm crazy or not. Is this just wrong?

The Church of Fenspace
(also known as the Fenchurch, particularly to Londoners and Douglas Adams fans)
Religion is closely tied to culture, community, and way of life. So it stands to reason that with the mass migration of people into space, new beliefs would evolve...or get created, as the case may be. The Church of Fenspace generally subscribes to the creation doctrine, on the basis that God clearly has a sense of humour.
The Church of Fenspace is the largest Christian organisation existing off-planet, and the only one recognised by Christian churches back on Earth. However, "recognised" might be a strong term; the degree of acceptance varies across the mundane religious community. The Vatican and several Protestant bodies regard the Fenchurch as a full-fledged denomination, albeit a strange one...but many others denounce them as a cult. Or worse.
The actual situation is somewhat problematic, because "organisation" is a bit of a stretch when describing the Fenchurch. "Organisation" tends to be lacking in any Fen endeavour, and the Church is no exception. Individual worshippers vary greatly in their theology and conduct. In practical terms, the Church of Fenspace is pretty much a catch-all category for any Fen that professes to be Christian.
That said, the Fenchurch does have a government of sorts. The various priests and pastors are on the same mailing list, and they have a message board. Flamewars are common, but the Church insists this merely shows their members have Fire of the Holy Spirit. God is their moderator, as it were.
And there are a few doctrinal matters that the Fenchurch agrees on. Kind of, anyway. As a general rule, the Church subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, accepting the existence of God and the divinity of Christ. It is a Protestant or Reformed body, insofar as it does not accept Papal authority...or at least the mundane Pope, but all efforts to appoint a new "Space Pope" have thus far met with failure.
Many Fenchurch members also venerate Saints, although Sainthood in this case is more Anglican in nature than Catholic. Saints are elevated by popular opinion as holy people, rather than formally canonized by Church authorities. Attempts have been made to draw up an official Litany of Saints, but discussions inevitably get bogged down. For example, many believe in St. Rei and St. Asuka of Evangelion...but the Sainthood of Shinji is a bit debatable.
Several groups fall within the umbrella of the Church of Fenspace, ranging from monastic orders such as the Grammaton Clerics and Order of Magdalene to regular places of worship like the Wolfwood Chapel and In Nomine Tether.
The Fenchurch has favourable relations with most other religious bodies in space, particularly the Unorthadox Jewish, Fen Muslims, and Space Buddhists. However, the Church has no association with the Jenova's Witnesses.

-- Acyl
EDIT: It stands to reason people will still have religion in space, right? So you'd get space Christians, space Jewish... here's just a little slice of that.
I'm Christian, really. I also have, however, a very odd sense of humour. And I hope this is an apros homage to both the religion and pop culture references. o_o)

Yeah. I'm having what we will call 'money issues' right now, which have meant that I'm taking a hiatus immediately following the 'computer issues' hiatus I took without announcing earlier. Sorry guys. I'm going to try to get back on track, but you know how it goes. I'll try to at least be on here to talk to. Wish me luck!

  Mace's Cape Story
Posted by: His Lovely Wife - 01-30-2007, 12:35 AM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (4)

So, Mace Mac Hine made it to 20. Cape time! For those of you who haven't gone through the COV cape mission, you have to steal one from a hero. In missions, I wondered gee, it would be nice if you got to pick the hero you were stealing the cape from, Foxboy suggested that I could write it up int he forum. So! Here you go!. Mace's cape story. The ending will be added once I get Rev's reaction to Bella's part in the story. -Cindy
*******
Mace walked into the almost deserted Infamous base. Lady Nogitsune was waiting to give him a piece of information. Seems Wide Receivers sister had recently made it out of Quarantine, somehow Nogi-chan had secured her personal com number. Mace wanted it. It would cost him, but it was something he was willing to pay.
Hey Nogi-chan. He went to grab her by the waist to bring her close for a kiss but she slipped away playfully. Without another word she handed him the slip of paper with Minerva Heismans com number on it. Thank you Lady. He bowed to her, a small smirk crossing his face. He had plans for this number. Warning Jackie Frost about the Council plan against Morgan and Bella had turned out well. But he wanted a back up, just in case.
Konnichi wa, Meisu-kun. It is understood that you will owe this one a..favour.
Of course Lady. Boy was he glad he was wearing sun glasses. Hed been told once that his eyes spoke volumes. Here in the Rogue Islands, hed had to wear them to keep his thoughts to himself. Frankly, the less Nogi could read what he was thinking the better off hed be. Do you require payment now? Nogis idea of payment could be anything. He wanted to get this done sooner rather then later, but he could be patient when he wanted to be.
She handed him another slip of paper. He was betting this one had a location for one of her famous assignations. Sayonara Meisu-kun. This one has some .things.. to accomplish. Later it was then. That suited his schedule just fine. And hed been dismissed.
Later toots. He turned his back on her and walked away, so he did not see the glare she gave him. Or the order she gave Kareshi, one of her kunoichi
He dialled Minerva Heismans com number and waited. So, they finally let you out did they?
How did you get this number? She sounded a bit like Wide Receiver. He wondered if his sisters sounded like him for a brief moment.
Sources. He smirked.
Great. Paragons communication is compromised. What has our security been up to since the war?
You probably dont want me to answer that.
No, probably not. She sighed. What do you want?
Pass a message to Morgan for me.
What do you think I am? A message centre?
Just tell him to meet me in Steel Canyon. Mace disconnected the call. It hadnt been long enough for standard tracers to trace, considering the scramblers hed used. But he wouldnt be calling her often enough for it to matter.
As he was walking along the main drag in Cap au Diable, he stopped for a moment as a semi familiar shape appeared in the corner of his eye. A puff of smoke blinded him and he felt himself being tossed around. When the smoke cleared he was standing in an elegant ball gown. Complete with panniers and pompadour wig. He turned his head slightly. A pair of glowing eyes and a feral smile glared back at him.
He ripped the wig off and threw it in the direction of the eyes. He missed, he knew he would. Nogitsune would tease him mercilessly about this incident that shed instigated. With a gesture of his hands he burned the dress off his body. He had other places to be. He didnt even think out loud that she might have overheard his conversation with Minerva. She probably had. He had to find a way to make sure that information was never made public.
Who is Mace? Minerva sat quietly in the restaurant next to her brother and his wife, Minuet, and one of Minuets brothers, Morgan.
Our brother. Minuet and Morgan answered in unison.
Out of the blue I get a message from him to pass something on to Morgan. Morgan sat up straight and attentive.
What did he say?
Hed meet you in Steel Canyon.
The two Mac Hines exchanged a look between them. You have to go Morgan.
I know.
Do you need backup? They still had not broken each others gaze. It was like an honesty spell between them Minerva noticed.
Morgan hesitated. Call Bella and let her know for me. She nodded and gave him a hug. Excuse me Wide, Minerva. Morgan raced out of the cafe.
Morgan waited at the Green Line Station in Steel Canyon. Hed been here an hour already but his martial arts training had taught him patience. He could wait all day if he had to. He knew he wouldnt have to though. The first statue blew up and he called in the coordinates for a containment field. He raced in before the field went up. Mace was here, now he just had to find him.
Longbow went down fairly easily Mace noticed. It appeared they didnt like to be set on fire. What a shame that he enjoyed doing just that. The first statue had blown up quite nicely, hed been impressed. Youd think they would make statues that couldnt be blown up. He moved up to the second and sent out flares and fireballs. It blew up splendidly.
MACE! Ah, good, Morgan had arrived. He turned to his brother. He looked so. Wholesome. With a flick of his hand Mace stopped his brother in a fire cage.
Morgan, fancy meeting you here. He approached his brother slowly, but his eyes were darting back and forth. Hows Bella? Still hotter then sin?
Morgan stood there calmly, his arms crossed, not flinching at the fire surrounding him. Hmm, Morgan used to be sensitive to fire. Guess Bella had cured him of that. Mace briefly pondered how exciting their bedroom behaviour must be, then pushed that out of his mind. He had other things to think about.
Ill thank you not to speak about Bella that way. Yeah, way too wholesome. What do you need?
Bella Fuego and Minuet Mac Hine stood outside the containment field and watched Morgan and Mace first talking, then arguing, then fighting. He should not have gone without backup. That is irresponsible. Minuet put a calming hand on Bella, or tried to anyway, Bella suddenly seemed to flare into a living torch. Minuet turned to see Morgan stumble. Mace moved in for the kill. Minuet screamed.
Sound it appeared, was not stopped by containment fields. Mace turned at his sisters scream and swore. She wasnt supposed to be here Morgan!
Morgan turned quickly to see both Minuet and Bella standing just out of reach. He turned to his brother and something passed between them. Mace only nodded, turned and ran. Morgan flicked a switch on his belt that slowly lowered the containment field, Minuet teleported him to her side. Bella was going after Mace.
Get her back here Min. Minuet hesitated. Morgan pleaded only a second before Bella was teleported back to Mins side.
Argh! I had him! Minuet! Bella made to fly off but Morgan actually grabbed her arm and held her back. She turned to look at him. He was hiding something from her. Morgan never hid anything from her. She replayed what she had witnessed. What did he want?
Nothing I wouldnt freely give. He looked down at Minuet and both shared a similar look of pain that their eldest brother had turned to a life of crime that they could do nothing to stop. If youll excuse me, I have to. He waved off to his left towards the west side of Steel Canyon. Go somewhere.
Bella still stood there waiting for an answer. That was when she noticed what was wrong. Morgan was in his Legendary uniform. Hed lost his cape. Morgan. He stopped and bowed his head, turning it slightly to acknowledge her. Eva will have to be notified.

  Review: Drunkard's Walk V.3
Posted by: Epsilon - 01-29-2007, 11:46 AM - Forum: Drunkard's Walk V: Another Divine Mess You've Gotten Me Into - Replies (1)

Okay.
I've read this chapter and, while the writing is of very good quality I have to say that it is a bit, nay a lot, slow. I guess I'm just not the audience for it but reading about Doug and Skuld and Megumi geeking out over the fictional specifications of Doug's fictional flying motorcycle... are boring to me. My eyes keep glazing over.
The character interactions are good. Though I'm kind of hoping something happens soon. Something actiony. I can see that this might not be an action kind of series, but my inner action fan craves it. Oh well.
Though I find myself kind of mystified by Doug's yo-yo relationship with the Norns et al. But its a good kind of mystified. Its a "how is Doug going to reconcile these two opposing viewpoints in his mind" not a "this makes no sense" mystified. I like it.
I hate to say it, but I don't really care about Chris, as a character. Not that I dislike him, just that I don't really find myself thinking about him. He's like a person I know I'm supposed to care about, but don't. It might not hurt that I read Oh, My Brother!... years and years ago. I just can't get a handle of the character. Was that ever "finished" or is this basically it?
In contrast, I actually really like your version of Megumi. Good work making me care about a character from the manga I actually didn't like much at all.
The Norns I run hot and cold on. I hate Belldandy, and always will. She is exactly the kind of female stereotype character Japan has produced that I find personally repugnant. So I don't think, unless you do something major, I'm going to warm up to her (or Keiichi the wonderwuss) anytime soon. On the other hand Skuld and Urd could be interesting characters if handled well. I'm surprised with how little you've done with urd, however. And Skuld... well, I'll withhold judgement until I see where your going with that next chapter.
Overall, I think this fic is good. It probably isn't exactly my cup of tea, from the looks of it. Unless the drama or the action really begins to ramp up next chapter. I can't really offer any advice, because most of my complaints are personal taste issues.

I know I've not been even a semi regular around here, but if anyone is interested then I have an early concept, I have a couple issues at this stage:
The most important at this stage involves the fact that that in order to have access to things I need I'd need - assuming I stick to what I'm likely to have access to in the next 18 months or so; base vehicle, mainly - I would need to be a relatively adopter as of (at latest) the end of 2007.
I'm fairly clear on the (at least) initial vehicle - a relativly large (by european standards) camper (perviously owned by my parents).
Any ideas as to what my char might be doing by SOS-con, though?
For that matter - anyone in the interim need a lift?
I don't have any pics of the camper in question on hand at this time, but I do of a similar, later model, and can probably get current pic(s) of the actual camper in unless it gets scrapped without notice in the next three or so months...
Also note that unless someone else has a better idea my character would be a semi-non-entity as of SOS-con - one of the numerous who left Earth following (or immediately preceeding) the worst of the 'wavium legilation - but no-one of significance otherwise. At least yet.
Thoughts?
