Impossible Dream (The Quest)
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
And to run where
the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
And to love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march,
march into hell
For that heavenly cause
And I know
If I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart
Will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be
better for this
That one man, scorned
and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last
ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable,
the unreachable,
The unreachable star
And I'll always dream
The impossible dream
Yes, and I'll reach
The unreachable star
Seems to describe Doug to a tee. Plus it seems to fit this walk.

Real 'Water of Life?' |

Here's an interesting song that I thought might be useful. Whiskey gets its name from a phrase that means 'water of life.' With this song, Doug might be able to turn it into the real thing.
Effect: Turns whiskey into a powerful healing potion. It can't revive the truly dead - that takes a deity's power - but as long as the person could be revived by CPR (i.e. - brain death hasn't occurred), whiskey affected by this song should be able to jump-start the body and heal anything up to but not including true death.
Finnegan's Wake
by The Clancy Brothers
Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin' Street
A gentleman, Irish, mighty odd;
He had a brogue both rich and sweet
And to rise in the world he carried a hod.
Now Tim had a sort of the tipplin' way
With a love of the whiskey he was born
And to help him on with his work each day
He'd a "drop of the cray-thur" every morn.
Chorus:
Whack fol the darn O, dance to your partner
Whirl the floor, your trotters shake;
Wasn't it the truth I told you
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!
One mornin' Tim was feelin' full
His head was heavy which made him shake;
He fell from the ladder and broke his skull
And they carried him home his corpse to wake.
They rolled him up in a nice clean sheet
And laid him out upon the bed,
A gallon of whiskey at his feet
And a barrel of porter at his head.
chorus:
His friends assembled at the wake
And Mrs. Finnegan called for lunch,
First they brought in tay and cake
Then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch.
Biddy O'Brien began to bawl
"Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see?
"O Tim, mavourneen, why did you die?"
Arragh, hold your gob said Paddy McGhee!
chorus:
Then Maggie O'Connor took up the job
"O Biddy," says she, "You're wrong, I'm sure"
Biddy she gave her a belt in the gob
And left her sprawlin' on the floor.
And then the war did soon engage
'Twas woman to woman and man to man,
Shillelagh law was all the rage
And a row and a ruction soon began.
chorus:
Then Mickey Maloney ducked his head
When a noggin of whiskey flew at him,
It missed, and falling on the bed
The liquor scattered over Tim!
The corpse revives! See how he raises!
Timothy rising from the bed,
Says,"Whirl your whiskey around like blazes
Thanum an Dhul! Do you thunk I'm dead?"
chorus:
Have fun with it.

See the white light
The light within
Be your own disciple
Fan the sparks of will
For all of us waiting
Our kingdom has come
Rays of power shining
Rays of magic fall
On the golden voice
That speaks within us all
For all of us waiting
Your kingdom will come
Kingdom Come
Feel the white light
The light within
Yeah it burns a fire
That drives a man to win
For all of us waiting
Your kingdom will come
Kingdom Come
Words of power
Calling to us all
Holding us together
While other kingdoms fall
No longer waiting
Our kingdom has come
Kingdom Come
Kingdom coming
Another kingdom falls
The rightful are waiting
But all are not rightful
Wait and receive
The weight of the fall
Kingdom Come

I know I threatened to do this many months ago and never did, but this time I'm serious. I browsing through the member records last night, mainly because of the explosion in new members over the past few weeks, and noticed that there are many people who joined up who haven't posted something in a year or more. I've decided to finally purge inactive members from the roster, probably on Thursday. So, if you don't want to suddenly find you registration for this board gone by the weekend, please at least post a reply to this message, so you display as having contributed something recently. My cut-off point will be April 2003; basically, if you've posted at least once in the last year, you're safe. If you're a lurker, consider delurking for a moment just so I don't unknowingly nuke you.
Thanks.

Well since I've bought the soundtrack that this song comes from I've gone back to it a lot. So I'm going to pass on the knowledge to you all.
"Strangers" - Performed by: Raj Ramayya
Lyrics by: Raj Ramayya from the Wolf's Rain soundtrack.

As to what this song might bring Doug, I just don't know. Maybe just a mood piece to play when Doug is recounting a time spent with Shadowwalker. I recommend the whole soundtrack since its very good.

Songs to call in reinforcements |

I've been listening to some of my old CDs and found two songs which Doug could use to call in some reinforcements.
The first one is Steel meets Steel by Hammerfall, it could summon some Templar knights. (It is from their Glory to the Brave album.)
Back in 1095, when the call to arms came
we had the red cross sown on
Sent to save the holy land and crush the infidels
with strength from above
Steel meets Steel
On towards victory we march, the guiding star
lead us to the battlefield
There, the heathens were subdued, and in the end
we forced them all to yield or die
Steel meets Steel
In July in '99, the Holy City was stormed and won
Jerusalem was freed, we thanked the Lord for our glory
We, the Templars, have survived by honor and pride
and the blessing of the sword
The quest of the war, forever sung
to the sound of steel meets steel
Steel meets Steel
The other one is Spirit Horse of the Cherokee by Manowar, it (obviously) could summon some Cherokee Indians.
The trail of tears began for all the Cherokee
The white men came to trade & borrow,
But then they would not leave
Some of us were taken by boat, and died at sea
Those of us who lived were sold to slavery.
We welcomed them as brothers, knowing nothing of
Their greed, born hunters not the hunted
As the white man hunts for me,
We are descendants of the animals
We live among the free
Our trail of tears would end one day at Wounded Knee.
Great Spirit, thunder birds fly, we are wild and free
To fight and die by the open sky, Spirit Horse ride for me
When we do the Ghost Dance, the buffalo will return
Paint ourselves for war, now blood and fire burn
Great Spirit makes us strong, take us to the sky
The Cherokee are brave, we are not afraid to die
Great Spirit, thunder birds fly, we are wild and free
To fight and die by the open sky, Spirit Horse ride for me
Red Cloud, Black Hawk, Sitting Bull
Crazy Horse, Geronimo
Strong and brave warriors to the grave
There has been much killing, there will be much more
The Medicine Man is dancing, he's calling us to war,
Hatchets sing with pride, let the white men die
Great Spirit, thunder birds fly, we are wild and free
To fight and die by the open sky, Spirit Horse ride for meWhat if: Chibi Usa, Veteran Speznas Ninja Commando From Hell(tm)?

Since the other one is both very long and moribund, I'll start a new thread for recommending fics. Here's one for a show that doesn't get enough quality fics, in my opinion. Chris, if you haven't seen this, it should qualify under your original terms for fics you want to read.
Ken Wolfe's El Hazard Earth. A continuation of El Hazard that picks up at the end of the original OVA, where Makoto finally comes for Ifurita. Very good, very interesting, and has some intriguing ideas that are implemented very very well.

Okay, things to remember for DW5. |

DW5 is happening in my OMB universe. There are some very important things people should know. I don't establish this in OMB because I didn't need to, but you people are nitpicky enough that I feel I should.
1) For the 376428747th time, OMB is based off the OAVs, NOT the manga. I steal bits from the manga, but not everything. The Lord of Terror arc WILL NOT HAPPEN. So if I haven't mentioned it yet in OMB, I'm not going to use it yet or (just as likely) I haven't seen it yet.
(I'm WAY behind on my manga.)
2) Also please remember that the OMB celestial situation is much different from the OMG one. All the major religious pantheons exist. (The Judeo/Christian/Islamic one exists as presented in In Nomine.)
3) OMB Ch 11 is the last chapter, and ends in the Mara intro arc (based off the manga story). DW5 happens shortly after that.
4) Don't confuse the mythological familial relationships with current ones. For example, in Norse mythology the Norns are not Vanir, in OMB they are. In Norse mythology the Norns are not sisters to Thor, in OMB they are.
5) In Norse mythology Vanir and Aesir define race, in OMB they define role. The Norns are Vanir, Paradox is Aesir.
6) The mythology gives you a picture of what a deity/demon was ONCE, not like they are now. Example: Indra in Hindu mythos of Vedic times was a supreme god (and four armed and red). Of Brahamanic times, he was rather cowardly and deceitful. In OMB, he looks like a surfer with an attitude like Walker Texas Ranger.
7) I haven't seen these stories yet, but I think I've managed to fix this one. In the Norse mythos, Hild is one of the Valkyrie. In the manga, she's Hel. For ease of use I'm saying its her current use-name, like Belldandy vs Verthidandy.
These notes are subject to change based on the whims of me and Bob. --
