If Disney Princesses were in D&D |

Right off the bat, you can probably assume at least one level dip in Bard for the musicality, but what classes otherwise? The whole speak with animals/animal companion thing most of them seem to have going strongly suggests Druid or Ranger to me (possibly full-Ranger otherwise for Merida,) and Mulan obviously gets a lot of some kind of martial levels, but how about it?
List of official Disney Princesses:
Classic: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan
Recent: Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Anna, Elsa, and Moana
Neo/prospective: Anastasia, Gamora, and Shuri
Stage two: How do the stories change if the female characters are mid-to-high level badasses rather than Damsels in Distress? (Not so different for Mulan, Merida and Gamora, at least...)

New host with SSL |

My current hosting with NetCarrier is paid up until the end of the year, so I have six months to find and settle on a new host. At the moment, I'm looking at GoDaddy's packages, because they're already my registrar for both this domain and the moribund warriors-alpha.net (which I haven't touched in like 15 years and really looks awful on modern monitors; I mainly use it to host my prereaders' mailing list). Anyway, even GoDaddy's cheapest package is miles ahead of what NetCarrier is giving me, in terms of features, and I can add SSL to it. The resulting cost will be a bit under twice what I pay NetCarrier, but I think that's acceptable.
So the question I have now is... Does anyone here on the forums have any experience with GoDaddy hosting, for good or bad?
Thanks.

Richard Spencer has learned what it feels like to be on the wrong side of a strong border. Not that it'll make any difference to how he conducts himself, but still, the Schadenfreude....
Quote:The announcement also follows the U.K.’s decision to bar a number of other white supremacists and far-right conspiracy theorists earlier this year.... All of them have advocated for stronger borders; all of them complained when British authorities took their advice.

... to spend $3000+ on a laptop.
Review of the Dell Precision 7530 and Precision 7730
An entry-level 7530 lists for $1200; upgrading to a 7730 and adding in all the bells and whistles bumps the price up above $3000.
I know the specs of Dell's current line of 1U rack-mounted servers, and a 7730 laptop with all the bells and whistles comes pretty darn close to them: six-core Xeon E-2176M CPU @ 2.70GHz, either 3-SSD RAID 5 array and 2TB HDD or 4-SSD RAID 5 array, 64 GB RAM (128GB if Dell starts shipping 32GB DIMMs). And with a NVIDIA GPU, this is a good gaming or 3D-rendering box, too. EDIT: Oh, and MIL-STD-810G ruggedization comes standard.
Does anyone know of any reason not to get one, other than the price?

(As folks are sure to recall, we've been doing this for more than 11 years, but a quick search of the forum shows I've only been using this thread title since 2008...)
We are starting our annual week at the beach on Long Beach Island on Saturday. As has been usual the last few years, we have more than enough consumer electronics handy that I will not disappear from the boards as I used to in the early 2000s.
The place we've stayed at the last couple years turned out to be way too small if everyone wanted to be in it at once, so in January Peg and I did some legwork down in LBI and found a much larger place for about the same rent, just fifty feet from the beach and just two blocks away from one of the family's favorite restaurants on the island. Everyone's looking forward to it.

I'm not sure what Bob's policy on linking to them is (or for that matter exactly where to talk about them, since they're not fanfiction...) but having chanced across an aggregator site for them while browsing, I became curious about the title of one of the "just in" new ones - "Her Appetite's Too Big for Me Alone." No, it's not lewd, despite what one might think, it's referring to literal hunger.
The first chapter is 50 pages and just hit the internet, but searching for the title will easily find it for you. I don't want to spoil the twist on what is at first glance a very typical "high school boy meets girl, they talk awkwardly, her stomach growls so he gives her the snack he'd packed" meet-cute, but it's an interesting one, at least for this first look. It's got some nice art in both the color and B&W pages, and while it's not advanced enough that I'd give it more than the most tentative of recommendations it at least doesn't raise any red flags.

OOC: Rob's sidestory #5, set after "Thermal, er, Culture Shock"
OOC: WARNING: This story has spoilers for the collaborative Halloween story that is still being written... although anyone who's been reading the OOC threads already knows them.
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

10:46 pm
As he was getting ready for bed, Rob heard a voice coming from outside - a voice he'd never heard before. "Let us in! It's cold outside! Don't make us freeze out here!" Of course he had to answer that call, he thought as he put his shirt back on. He wasn't so heartless as to let somebody freeze out here... there.
Then he stopped as he saw some words written in big unfriendly letters, apparently hanging in the air. "WARNING! Your nanoswarm has detected that your mind is being influenced telepathically!"
'All right,' thought Rob, 'that's something Washuu-chan didn't warn me about. As for the telepath, he can freeze in the dark for all I care.' Then he heard footsteps in the hallway. Grabbing his keys, he stepped into the hall, to find Ruiko walking toward the front door. "Rui-chan! No! We're being mind controlled!"
She stopped just before touching the door. "We are?"
"We are. Step away from the door. Now."
She did, and then she dropped to her knees in fright. Rob noticed that the voice was no longer whispering in his head ... as he heard the back door being opened.
"Damn! EVERYBODY WAKE UP! WE'RE BEING INVADED!"
"Wow, you can shout loud."
A pyjama-clad Kuroko appeared in front of them, having teleported to the lobby. "What's the situation?"
"Mind control to get somebody to open a door and let whoever-they-are inside. Back door's been opened. You're in charge until Mikoto or Usagi are up. Ruiko and I are running for the sparring room."
"Thank you for getting out of our way." Kuroko teleported away.
10:52 pm
The door to the sparring room was located in the basement, between the laundry room and the storage lockers. The sparring room itself was located in a pocket dimension, created by Washuu-chan - and could be sealed off from the rest of the building so that any attacks inside the room wouldn't damage the building.
Or, in this case, so that any attacks in the rest of the building wouldn't hurt the people inside the sparring room - three humans and three cats.
"Rob, what's going on? How did you know this was an attack?" the youngest cat asked.
"Well, Diana, before you showed up here, Washuu-chan re-built my nervous system. Tonight I discovered she slipped in a defense program that helps me resist mind control."
Chibi-Usa's eyes went wide. "She can do that?"
"She's the greatest scientific genius in the universe; just ask her. Of course she can do that." Luna didn't sound particularly happy.
"Yeah. What else did she slip into my head while she was at it?"
Ruiko put her hand on Rob's shoulder. "We'll get Uiharu-san and Mizuno-san to look at you when all of this is over."
"Yeah. And you're as nervous as I am."
"What? No, I'm not!"
Artemis jumped onto Ruiko's lap. "You slipped back into old habits, calling Kazari-san and Ami by their family names. You're nervous."
Just then, they heard a knocking at the door - one knock, a pause, two quick knocks, another pause, then the pattern repeated. Rob stood up, walked to the door, and asked, "Who's there?"
"The Big Bad Wolf."
He sighed in relief, then unsealed and unlocked the door, opening it to reveal Makoto. "What happened?"
"Mii-san opened the back door and let in a half-dozen people, who shifted into some things that I've never seen before when they saw me coming down the back stairs. Rob... she didn't run away from them."
"Oh, no."
"I kept them from hurting her too badly, but Ami's busy performing first aid. They lost interest in her when I zapped one of them with a Supreme Thunder."
"Oh, good," Ruiko breathed.
"Then they came after me. They'd almost reached me when Usagi hit them with a Moon Sprial Heart Attack from behind me. They collapsed and turned into dust."
"So, we've got some new kind of youma or daimon or droid or something to worry about - one that has telepathic abilities."
Rob shook his head. "Not necessarily, Artemis. They could be some sort of attack drones sent by somebody else."
"They targeted Sailor Jupiter as soon as she made herself known."
"That could mean they wanted magic, not necessarily a Senshi. But that's something to figure out later. Right now, I need to call Washuu-chan and get her here to help Ami treat Mii."
To be continued...

[HELP] Macross/Robotech "Super Tsunami" - How bad was it really? |

Okay, so I've been hearing all kinds of things about how the American West Coast was utterly devastated by a super tsunami that swept out from where the SDF-1 Macross space folded out along with South Ataria Island and a decent chunk of the Pacific Ocean.
And yet, later on, we see that Minmei's home town of Yokohama is just fine.
Wut.
No really, what the hell?
Because here, this map shows where South Ataria Island (actually South Iwo Jima in real life) is actually located.
So, how the hell is the West Cost screwed over six ways to Sunday, but Yokohama is just fine? Was this yet another one of Harmony Gold's bending of the facts or did someone legit not do their homework?
Or, more importantly, can such an event even spawn such a huge tsunami? Because, IIRC, tsunamis are caused by shifts in the tectonic plates that adjust the relative depths of the sea floor on either side of the faultline. And I would think that would be shifting a helluva lot more volume of sea water than what got taken with the SDF-1.
So.... help?
