  Vikings have invaded Ontario!

Okay, it's more of a friendly visit:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/vi ... -1.3650744

They're confusing "Vikings possibly made it past L'Anse-aux-Meadows" and "Vikings probably made it past L'Anse-aux-Meadows," alas... but, hey - any excuse to go take photos of a longship is a good one. (Tomorrow. I'm busy today.)

That's right: it's National Cream Tea Day

Remember: clotted cream on your scones, not whipped cream.

Virginia court says FBI can work internationally without a warrant

The Register: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/06/24 ... _anywhere/]Judge rules FBI can hack any time, any, place, anywhere

Yet another case of http://allthetropes.org/wiki/Think_of_the_Children]Think of the Children trumping civil rights, in the opinion of the article writer. There's also the matter of the FBI previously not being allowed to work outside of the USA...

I hope this doesn't affect me...

Ten minutes ago, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for a township a three-hour drive away from here. Five minutes ago, they included a township a one-hour drive away in the alerts. Two minutes ago, they included one of our suburbs in the alerts (it's where the guy whose desk is right beside mine at work lives). The storm is moving at 90kph (~55mph), so it's moving almost as fast as those driving times.

It's difficult to follow regular programming, with all these alerts... but I'd rather that than end up dead.

  Plotbunny: First day at school
Posted by: robkelk - 06-19-2016, 02:43 AM - Forum: Fenspace - No Replies

A different thought... I just realized that Vivio is going to school with her aunt Helen, and her aunt Yomiko is their teacher. There has to be a story in there somewhere, but I don't know enough about who else is attending PS238 to be able to write it. (Besides, I've got too many stories on the go as it is.) Does anybody want to run with this?

  [fluff] Silly thoughts and questions
Posted by: Cobalt Greywalker - 06-18-2016, 05:53 PM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (6)

Starting a general thread for those silly thoughts and questions that don't normally get their own threads, cause one's currently bugging me:

Do any of the other BNFs do special (voice) acting appearances on various Fen shows for charity or egosomething? I can see A.C. being asked for the local Sailor Moon variant (she'll occasionally pop up on Tower of Wonder, if nothing else to keep The Professor calm for HIS occasional appearances), and maybe for Supers-based charity shows (I did have an idea about the Children In Need show, but after Wogan died I gave up on it).

  Strange Things Are Afoot....
Posted by: Ebony - 06-17-2016, 02:33 PM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

And not just at the Circle K, dude.
Apparently, there's a strange fellow wandering around Liverpool. Dubbed 'The Plague Doctor' because of a resemblance to that outfit, it moves around town, never speaking or making a sound.
Any other strange and unusual things out there. Are feet still washing up on the beaches near Vancouver? Are cattle mutilations back up? Any new sightings of El Chupacabra?
Tell me, friends, what news is there from the Secret World?

Can't find the "Fen Sports" thread, so starting a new one
Posted by: robkelk - 06-15-2016, 12:46 AM - Forum: Fenspace - No Replies

And it's been years since the old thread was updated, anyway. The related wiki page is here.

Target Surfing

The rules are simple: Using only your initial push off a surface, touch as closely as you can to a target point on another wall. Measure from where you touch to the target, and score that many points (your choice of units, but everybody uses the same units). Continue from that point to a target point on another wall, measuring and scoring again. Keep chaining the targets until you get to the end of the course. Lowest score wins.

Obviously, this is a zero-G sport. I put "new" in quotation marks because apparently there's something similar played on the ISS (but it's a timed run, not a precision run).

If you're really bad at the game and really long-lived, you can do the Kessel Run in five parsecs...
